Swayne, while the favourites don't seem to offer value and look to skinny. The difference imo is that the Irish Derby is run to give the better dogs the chance to make the final. Usually you'd see 2 or 3 dogs in the top end of the antepost betting make the final. Unlike the Bookmakers run English Derby.

Just an early play for me, not going mad this time. Only reasonable bet 40/1 B*ylesports Hero at this stage, which I thought quite good. Looking a great Irish Derby if all turn up in-form and sound. Getting excited already!

I think the 550yds at Shelbourne will stretch B0ylesports Hero's stamina to the limit. He has not exactly been going on at the finish in the 525 competitions which he's been contesting at Limerick and Clonmel and two of his siblings are primarily sprinters at Hove. |

I know Wales and now his injury. Only a few quid at risk but he was really putting the pedal to the metal from three-quarters when I was watching him

Couldn't not add Nidge at 20/1, don't think it'll last. Once he steps up into all-age, just hope his racing career doesn't go along the same lines as Milldean Panther

Had my 2nd ante post bet on the Derby
am i turning into Woody ![]() Greenwell Hulk @ 50s - it's simply too big, dog is running unreal at present and god only knows what clock he would have done at Newbridge in the 1st round of the Cox Cup only for that disaster. He was a brilliant winner of the 600 and while he would be better over that trip i don't think the drop back is that much of a problem and he will be so difficult to knock out. |

just the 12L victory for Redwood Mick tonight in the Cox Cup
now put him away for a few weeks |

carnage by the looks of things, hopefully those non finishers are alright

OHN BOYLE, the owner of ****, has committed to an initial three-years sponsorship of the Irish Derby and pledged to “progress the prize level during this term and, just as importantly, drive a packed house to enjoy the event”.
The key word seems to be initial as Boyle sees himself as in for the long haul. “Greyhound racing is part of the national fabric and mine too. For instance, we started sponsoring the Clonmel Derby in 2000 and 14 years later are still involved. I see this proving a similar commitment.” This year’s Shelbourne Classic carries a first prize of €125,000 and starts on Thursday, August 7, with the final on Saturday, September 13 (live on RTE 2). The runner-up picks up €22,500, third €12,500, while unplaced finalists get €7,500 each. **** become its seventh sponsor with a total prize fund of €240,000. There is an impressive Galway Crystal trophy for the winner. Ten per cent of the main prize goes to the winning breeder, as does ten per cent to the trainer, if a licensed public one. Two per cent is also deducted for greyhound welfare. The **** Irish Derby will be broadcast by SIS into all betting shops, with **** planning to particularly showcase the event within their 200 Irish shops. “It’s not really our Derby, but our customers’ Derby,” added Boyle. Boyle’s own dog, **** Hero, is 25-1 after bringing his winning haul to €110,000 after taking the Bank of Ireland Finance Produce Stakes at Clonmel on Sunday – this after winning the €80,000 Kirby Memorial at Limerick. |

like talking to a brick wall trying to get the fools that work for this firm to do anything, gave them a list of dogs (dogs that have genuine chances) to add to their market but nowt as expected
still the firms are hardly much better, a dog does 28.24 (525y SPK) in a trial, 21.40 (400y DLK) in a trial and 29.76 (550y SPK) in a race in the last 3 weeks and nobody seems to think that warrants a Derby quote?? |

Hope there aint a Salad Dodger lurking
|
|
By:
i hope there is, 50/1 is the shortest priced dog i have and will have backed come the start of the Derby
there are big question marks about most of the market leaders and the vast majority of them are shocking prices |
|
By:
...but Salad Dodger came from nowhere. Sure even you wouldn't have picked it up on your radar

Want one in but dont want to request to books to add - price could b fcked come sunday anyway

No worries. Just home after Sheffield and a few slurps. Spoke to Barrie about Eske and Irish Derby early in the evening. He said would take lots of organising spread over so many weeks but dog's running really well and sound.
Not backing though. Cost me enough in the past two English Derbies, injured and non-participant. Won on him at Sheffield antepost but holding onto the payout, just now |

I bit the bullet today and went to some shops to take the 66s Ardfert Tee Jay, got accommodated this time. He would really want to step up on his trial last Thursday but i thought he looked an exceptional talent around Tralee and he should take well to Shelbourne. I'm presuming (hoping) the dog will end up with Mr. O Donnell for the Derby.
Redwood Mick @ 66s Greenwell Hulk @ 50s Ardfert Tee Jay @ 66s there is still plenty of value to be had @ 66s++ in this Derby, there are many dogs with right good chances not even quoted (shocking from the firms imvho) but i guess they're waiting to put them in short after a flashy run around Shelbourne ![]() |

Greenwell Hulk @ 50s - that's incredible!
I'll get me coat. ![]() |

would have been on @ 66s had I stopped fannying about and got on with it
anyway I better not see the dog on the card again this week, give him a rest or he will end up bolloxed half way through the Derby |

no excuses for Ardfert Tee Jay this Saturday either, i thought they should have stuck a (w) on him anyway the way he went from boxes last week but he has drawn 6 with Fair Taxes in 5 who didn't looks to have a great deal to the corner last week (fairly flew into the 3rd though).
it's a pretty good race but he should have more room this week to show what he can do and needs to take a huge step forward on last weeks run Tyrur Hagler takes a big drop in grade on the card which may help him to turn closer (the penny surely has to drop sometime soon at boxes) and show what he can do, think he is really interesting |
|
By:
Green Prince to beat Fair Taxes and Kereight King to beat Deanridge Pennys, imo
|
|
By:
gone in again on Redwood Mick @ 40s (this time), delighted with his trial last night and if he can keep coming away like that he will take some beating
right feel free to abuse me here but i actually don't think Ardfert Tee Jay ran as bad as i first thought last night (maybe deluded ), he walked out of boxes and then was crowded and bumped on the bend and again crowded at the 2nd, he then though showed real good pace from 2 to 3 (what i expected last week) only to run up the arse of the 1 dog and then he had the 5 take his back legs twice badly hampering him. he still has to show more but i am feeling more hopeful of him after last night than i did last week. |
|
By:
maybe deluded
imo ![]() ![]() |
|
By:
nope, after watching the race about 30 times i can conclude he did in fact run much better last night
still has chunks to find, still needs to learn to trap somewhat better and show more to the corner if he is to get any sort of pitch but that was a step forward last night, he is a dog that i would be running in the Champion Plate (if accepted) or in one of races each week up to the Derby, the more experience for him the better anybody else see Razldazl Newstalk taking the head off Native Hut at the 1st bend on the way to the pick up? he looks a proper wrong un |
