The final number of entries for the ETS Irish Derby is likely to hit the 130 mark pending the outcome of veterinary checks and fitness trials scheduled for yesterday evening.
Among the late entries for the classic were English Derby finalist Droopys Jet, Ladbrokes 600 winner Ringtown Snowy, 2012 Scottish Derby champ Barefoot Allstar and the Irish Oaks heroine Locnamon Bridie. A surprise name in the list is that of Tyrur Sugar Ray which was injured in the Champion Stakes semi and was stated to be a non-runner for the Derby. But he came through gallops and a veterinary examination and last year’s Derby finalist now leads the seven-strong Conor Fahy team in the draw. The draw will be made at 11am on Monday and will be streamed live on www.igb.ie. The line for the streaming is not yet available but will be displayed on the site on Monday morning. The first round draw for the ETS Irish Greyhound Derby provided a number of lively talking points but surely the greatest was the meeting of old rivals Ballymac Vic and Droopys Jet in a red-hot Heat 16 on Saturday night. A total of 120 names went into the hat for the first round draw which was made by ETS representative Owen Warren and the format is that the first ten heats will be run on Thursday with the remaining ten heats on Saturday night. In keeping with recent tradition, each heat will be run in the order in which they were drawn. The draw was streamed live from Shelbourne’s Oaks Suite and initial reaction was very positive with hundreds of enthusiasts switching on to view it live. Another hugely interesting innovation is that the entire ETS Irish Derby will be shown live to over 10,000 Bookmakers’ shops in the UK and Ireland on the SIS FACTS TV channel. All heats and the final will also be streamed by SIS to international markets over the full five weeks. Live pictures from Shelbourne will also be going into other worldwide locations as part of Tote co-mingling deals between the IGB’s Tote and other internationally recognised partners, thus creating more exposure for Shelbourne Park racing in the future. But back to the draw and the mouth-watering clash of our two English Derby finalists in Heat 16. Droopys Vic was drawn inside Ballymac in the Wimbledon final and many felt that a switch of traps would have seen Ballymac winning the classic. Now the traps are reversed but both dogs should qualify handily and could well go on to meet again in the final, if not before! Mind you, it is not just a two-dog race as the likes of Abbeyville Tipp and Hot Pursuit, in particular, cannot be taken lightly. Top attraction in Thursday’s opening session will be in Heat 8 where defending champion Skywalker Puma will wear the red jacket and Easter Cup winner North Bound goes from six. Heat 12 on Saturday is another cracker with Kereight King, Borna Gem, Farloe Trent and Holdem Spy in opposition. Each and every heat has its own intrigue and, while most of the runners will qualify for the 96 dog second round, it will still be cut and thrust time at Ringsend. (Four will qualify from four heats, HEATs: 4,6,14 & 17 for the second round with five qualifying from the remaining sixteen. ) |

SIS TO SHOW IRISH DERBY THROUGHOUT UK AND IRELAND
06/08/2013 For the first time ever the entire Irish Greyhound Derby at Shelbourne Park will be shown live to over 10,000 retail bookmaking shops in the UK and Ireland on the SIS FACTS TV channel. All heats and the final of the ETS Irish Derby will also be streamed by SIS to international markets over the full five weeks of this iconic event of Irish sport from this week until the grand final on the 14th September. Live pictures from Shelbourne Park will also be going into other worldwide locations as part of Tote co-mingling deals between the IGB's Tote and other internationally recognised partners thus creating significantly more exposure for Shelbourne Park racing in the future. IGB's CEO Adrian Neilan said "This is very positive news for the greyhound industry. The recent changes to our integrity systems in Shelbourne Park have been well received by all stakeholders. It shows we can make our racing work for any target market whilst ensuring we keep the racing in the format that our Irish customers enjoy. “We have very solid and robust systems in place now and if any stakeholders steps out of line we will adopt a zero tolerance approach as no person should stop this industry moving forward. This approach will also make our product more marketable. This initiative with SIS will showcase the very best of our Irish greyhound racing product to its largest audience ever. “We are also excited by the worldwide Tote co-mingling opportunities and the liquidity that will bring into the Tote pools in Shelbourne Park. SIS are great sponsors of the Irish greyhound industry and I am very hopeful that they will now start to earn some real returns from this venture so that they will be interested in trying to secure this product again for the 2015 calendar year. Furthermore this new exposure will be very beneficial for our new Derby Sponsors ETS as they seek to grow their profile in these regions." |

Lodgefield Turbo not on the betfair lists any longer yet still in the Derby.
What is that about? |
|
By:
might get added eventually if he doesn't get knocked out in the meantime. (nightmare if you backed him, hoping to trade) id send an email to them explaining the situation, they'l look into it, suspend the market when they wake up and after about 3 hours while they look for a dog that they do have listed thats not running make the change.
or they might just add the dog, re-instate the bets on him and we'l have 121 dogs entered for about 3 rounds until they can again work out which dog didnt enter the comp in the first place. |

STARS ON SHOW AS ETS IRISH DERBY COMMENCES
08/08/2013 Greyhound fans have a real midweek treat at Shelbourne Park this evening when the eagerly awaited ETS Irish Derby commences with ten quite absorbing heats to set up what promises to be a quite stellar classic. There will be a galaxy of stars in action tonight with defending champion Skywalker Puma the shining headliner and backed up by Shelbourne superstars Paradise Madison and Milldean Panther. But there are established stars and potential champions in each and every heat to make this absolutely compulsive viewing. Skywalker Puma versus North Bound is a real mouth-watering clash in Heat 8 and Larry Dunne’s Slippery Robert must be a serious player also. However Frances O’Donnell reports that Puma is in great form following his heavy Champion Stakes fall and he should have the class to start from where he left off some eleven months ago. Paradise Madison is made a banker bet in Heat 3. He was outstanding in winning the Champion Stakes final and should have come on further with that run under his belt. Ollie Bray is very happy with the dog and that’ll do for me. He can win from Airlie Dazzler and the sure-to-improve Sidaz Eagle. Milldean Panther is a hugely interesting runner in Heat 7. This is one of the fastest greyhounds we have ever seen but he has had very bad injury problems and will be having his first race since December 1st. While he has trialled well there has been something missing and in the circumstances Cabra Buck gets the vote. Hopefully Milldean will progress and he could add a huge dimension to this classic. A FANTASY BANKER Isabels Boy will be favourite for the first heat and should lead all the way but Droopys Margo and Glenanore Dancer can run big races. Jacksallstar has been withdrawn from Heat 2 and that should clear the way for Mall Brandy to win from the big finishing English racer Bouncy Bocko which is under the care of Liam Dowling. John McGee’s Champion Stakes runner-up Jaxx On Fantasy has been a revelation recently and he looks banker material in Heat 4 where Rumble Titan, returning from injury, looks the main threat. The Declan Byrne trained Oaks and Champion Stakes third Melodys Diamond can see off the Cesarewitch and Ladbrokes 600 winner Ringtown Snowy in Heat 5 with the latter returning from a lay-off. Paul Sallis can have a flying start to his Irish campaign with Bold Three in Heat 6 and he can get the better of the flying bitch Tantallons Kay. Skywalker Star could be a second for Frances O’Donnell in Heat 9 but he’ll have to do everything right to beat the Paul Hennessy trained Jaytee Hellcat which could prove to be a real surprise packet in this classic. Finally, Owen McKenna’s Airforce Diva is given a confident vote to win Heat 10 with Droopys Adler and the progressive El Flutter chasing her home. YOUR DERBY HEAT FORMGUIDE ISABELS CAN LEAD ALL THE WAY Early pace could decide this in favour of ISABELS BOY which will be having his first run since his English campaign. He flies to the bend but will need a few lengths in hand down the back. Droopys Margo is improving with each run following her injury problems and can be a major player but she will need to clear Glenanore Dancer to the bend. The latter is better than he has shown recently and has a big run in him. Hawaii Kinsale is a youngster with immense potential but he is inexperienced and has a terrible draw. Piercestown Lucy will be running on very strongly while Fridays Carroll is capable of challenging Isabels Boy for the early lead. FORECAST: 1 ISABELS BOY; 2 Droopys Margo; 3 Glenanore Dancer ***** BRANDY CAN SCORCH HOME The absence of Jacksallstar (injured) should make this easier for MALL BRANDY which is a litter brother to Paradise Madison and also possesses excellent pace. The change of seeding should suit and he will be hard to beat. English raider Bouncy Bocko, now with Liam Dowling, is well housed and will be flying from halfway. Kilgraney Tomson is another that is very strong from the half and was a very impressive winner of the Tipperary Cup. Big Johns Girl has useful form up north while Rockchase Reem is a noted slow starter but packs a huge finishing burst. A reserve will run. HEAT 2: 1 MALL BRANDY; 2 Bouncy Bocko; 3 Kilgraney Tomson ***** MADISON CAN SHOW HIS CLASS With three races under his belt, the latest a stunning Champion Stakes success, PARADISE MADISON should be approaching his very best form and that would mean a convincing victory here. He should lead his two neighbours to the bend but may have to give best on the corner to the quick starting Quail Hollow. But from the second bend Paradise should be much too strong. Airlie Dazzler will be very strong from halfway and can follow the leader. Sidaz Eagle is a young dog with little experience but much pace and when he learns to start he could become a star. Keelogs Diamond and Big Surprise are fine experienced trackers but may struggle here. HEAT 3: 1 PARADISE MADISON; 2 Airlie Dazzler; 3 Sidaz Eagle ***** FANTASY HARD TO OPPOSE Is there a more progressive dog in Ireland than JAXX ON FANTASY? Doubtful. He was brilliant in finishing second in the Champion Stakes where he pushed Paradise Madison all the way and the former Hungarian racer can strike a blow for the Continental side of the game. Rumble Titan is a serious performer but he is returning from injury and may need the outing. Mays King is a young dog on the upgrade and stays very strongly. Clydal Jack has a terrific strike rate but has a poor draw for an inside seed while Locnamon Royal is an interesting northern challenger. Stone Boy King impressed here last time but this is tougher. HEAT 4: 1 JAXX ON FANTASY; 2 Rumble Titan; 3 Mays King ***** DIAMOND CAN HIT THE RIGHT TUNE Ringtown Snowy has two major wins this season in the Gain Cesarewitch and the Ladbrokes 600 and he is sure to run well. He is returning from a lay-off and that may hand the advantage here to Oaks and Champion Stakes third MELODYS DIAMOND. She will need a smart start and will have to lead Ringtown to the bend. Drumurrer Vixen is well capable of progressing a fair few rounds and Is returning to best form. Barefoot Bandit is a young dog on the way up in class and likely to be involved at the business end. Signal Tower does his best work late while Combo Mike is well housed on the inside and can also be prominent. HEAT 5: 1 MELODYS DIAMOND; 2 Ringtown Snowy; 3 Barefoot Bandit ***** BOLD A FIRST FOR BRITAIN? The Paul Sallis trained Bold Three arrives with a big reputation but the British tracker is something of a “dark one”. He is returning from injury but has trialled well and was highly regarded across the water where he claimed a number of high profiles among his victims. Oaks finalist Tantallons Kay could well go off favourite and this inside runner will play a huge role if she can make a good start. Brogan Henry is a strong runner with a good draw but he must clear his neighbour Hillcroft Champ around the bend and that may be difficult. Lookoutforbodie has good southern form while Boundforthestars appears to face a difficult task in this grade. HEAT 6: 1 BOLD THREE; 2 Tantallons Kay; 3 Brogan Henry ***** CABRA CAN BUCK THE PANTHER All eyes will be on Milldean Panther as he makes his eagerly awaited return from injury. He has performed well in trials but how much have his problems affected his brilliance? Only time will tell but in the circumstances the vote is given to CABRA BUCK which can fly to the bend and stays strongly. Best drawn runner is Captain Scolari and he can lead up the inside and perhaps for much further. Nothing Simple will seek the rail early but he moved wide on the bend last time. He may be well housed. Slippery Sooty was unlucky last time when baulked on the bend but he is sure to figure. Oneco Impact is notoriously slow early but finishes like the proverbial express. HEAT 7: 1 CABRA BUCK; 2 Milldean Panther; 3 Captain Scolari ***** PUMA CAN RESUME WHERE HE LEFT OFF Skywalker Puma’s bid to create history starts here. He will be bidding to become only the second dog to successfully defend his Irish Derby title – the other was Spanish Battleship which actually managed to defend it twice! Puma fell last time but is reported in great form and he has a fine draw. Obvious main rival is Easter Cup winner North Bound and he, too, is perfectly housed in six. He won’t be easily beaten and the first bend lead could be vital. Slippery Robert is high class and could give the big two a real run for their money. Bookie Buster won the Kilkenny qualifier and led all the way then. Townspark Tucker has run some fine races in defeat here and is a strong stayer. Linwood Peter is well regarded but faces a very tough task. HEAT 8: 1 SKYWALKER PUMA; 2 North Bound; 3 Bookie Buster ***** SKYWALKER CAN BE A HEAT STAR This race has cut up badly with two absentees in Pakies Ramble (sold) and Jaytee Hellcat (injured) and, while reserves will run, they will hardly be of the same calibre. The clear vote now goes to the well housed SKYWALKER STAR which can go up fast and stays strongly. Tyrur Annaleen is a classy female that made a mess of the start in the big Galway Bitch final last week. She can be involved here. Melodys Sonic has promised plenty since his Tralee debut while Lotus Paddy is a strong northern runner and is well housed. HEAT 9: 1 SKYWALKER STAR; 2 Tyrur Annaleen; 3 Lotus Paddy ***** DIVA CAN EARN HER DERBY STRIPES While she probably hasn’t achieved as much as anticipated after a tremendous start to her career, Owen McKenna’s AIRFORCE DIVA is still one of the best bitches in training. She was in top form here last time and a repeat of that form would see her home in front here. A big danger is the Champion Stakes finalist Droopys Adler which has only won four races but has been racing in the highest class right through his career. The youngster El Flutter has a big future but probably over further than this trip. He will be doing his best work from halfway. Fairhill Paddy goes up strongly while Danmar Mini is a very useful bitch but needs to improve. Tyrur Pirlo lacks experience but has buckets of potential. HEAT 10: 1 AIRFORCE DIVA; 2 Droopys Adler; 3 El Flutter ***** FANCIES, OUTSIDERS AND MORE TOP THREE * PARADISE MADISON....10-1 * KEREIGHT KING....25-1 * PARADISE SILVA....40-1 GOOD VALUE * BORNA GEM....66-1 * AIRFORCE DIVA....200-1 * TYRUR AMELIA....250-1 MIRACLE SEEKERS * EL FLUTTER (E.W)....200-1 * KILGRANEY BOLT (E.W)....500-1 A YEAR EARLY * HAWAII KINSALE....100-1 * FIRE HEIGHT SCOT....100-1 DERBY NEWS AT A GLANCE CHANGE OF NAME * Kelmar Galaxy, which contests Heat 13 on Saturday, has been sold by Tony Martin and is now owned by Terry Corden. His name has been changed to Tynwald Galaxy. * Johnnys Boy has had his name changed to Johnnys Star. The British bred challenger had to have a change of name when being sent to Ireland as the name had already been registered in the Irish Stud Book for a dog that was whelped back in 2005 but never raced, though he did have three official trials. * El Flutter has been transferred from Jimmy Ferncombe’s name to the ownership of the O’Donnell/ Byrne/ Lenny Syndicate. NON RUNNERS * Heat 2 – Jacksallstar (injured). Reserve will run * Heat 9 – Pakies Ramble (sold to UK). Reserve will run * Heat 9 – Jaytee Hellcat (injured). Reserve will run ST LEGER BOUND Jaytee Hellcat was sent over to Paul Hennessy by John Turner to challenge for the Derby and was quietly fancied to go a long way in the classic. However he hasn’t recovered from a knock received and will not take his place in Heat 9 in the first round. The dog will remain with Hennessy and is to be aimed at the Kerry Agribusiness Irish St Leger at Limerick. |

A bit late for this; but with 5 qualifying form some heats and 4 from others would it not have been fairer (and mathematically more elegant) to have 24 heats of 5 dogs with 4 qualifying from each?

The original ante-post favourite for the ETS Irish Derby Roxholme Bully has been withdrawn from the second round due to injury. Owen McKenna contacted Shelbourne Park this morning to withdraw the dog which sustained a dislocated toe in his Saturday night defeat. He was due to run from trap three in Heat 5 and the revised line-up for this contest is: 1 Ballymac Vic, 2 Abbeyville Tipp, 3 Vacant, 4 Captain Scolari, 5 Bit Of Berlin, 6 El Flutter (m). |

A surprising number of non runners, even allowing for the O’Donnell (non)runners.
This screwed up the morning price betting for a significant number of heats. How do they manage to squeeze reserves in? They are either entered or they are not, unless you are in Ireland. The layers would have been caned on the Thursday, but may have got the lot back on Saturday. |
