One fancied British contender dropped out of contention for the ETS Irish Derby yesterday but a new hope emerged.
Sawpit Sensation has been ruled out of the classic after suffering a fit on Saturday and he will undergo a course of antibiotics which will rule out the Derby challenge. The dog will instead target the Steel City Cup at Sheffield. However, Bold Three entered the Derby picture after producing a flying trial before racing at Monmore yesterday. Trainer Paul Sallis was thrilled after the dog covered the 480 metres in 28.06 on his comeback from injury. He had won the Ladbrokes Spring Festival Dogs final at Monmore before his injury. Sallis has discussed the matter with owner Mike Davis and Bold Three will be given a trial at Shelbourne prior to the Derby. And Sidaz Jack is not being aimed at it - no idea why PP keep shortenin him, to entice the mugs no doubt..... |

Passport arrived (terrible mug shot), so booked flight and somewhere to get head down for a few hours.
Puma my main hope, but would be happy enough also with either Eske, Madison, Thunder, Sky or North Bound at this stage. Looks like a great competition but extremely competitive. Loathe to leave out Vic, Jet and Bully but cant back them all. See how far my team goes initially. Good luck! PS Airlie would be the "big one" like English Derby but doubt he'll go? |

Airlie would be the "big one" like English Derby but doubt he'll go?
So it finally comes out, from all your so called Derby bets posted on here your "big one" was a £2.50 bet on airlie impact at 150-1 . |

The 2013 Enterprise Targeted Solutions Irish Derby is just two weeks away and Declan Carey has issued the plans for the classic which will commence with a split first round on Thursday and Saturday, August 8th and 10th.
The good news for owners of finalists is that the prizemoney for all six finalists will be substantially increased. The winner will receive €125,000 compared with €120,000 last year and the runner-up prize goes up from €20,000 to €22,500. The third placed dog will earn €12,500 compared with €10,000 a year ago. The three unplaced finishers will earn €7,500 each, an increase of €2,500 on last year. The start of the classic is just two weeks away from tomorrow and prior to that ALL TRIAL STAKE WINNERS are asked to confirm their availability not later than Thursday of next week, August 1st. Traditionally the Racing Office have to spend considerable time chasing some owners of the Trial Stake winners to confirm their participation. Owners/trainers of the qualifiers are asked to communicate their intentions at the earliest possible convenience. Entries will close on Friday, August 2nd and the draw will be made on the Bank Holiday Monday, August 5th. |

SPARTA MAESTRO RETIRED & MISSES DERBY
24/07/2013 Hopes that Sparta Maestro might be able to contest the ETS Irish Derby have been dashed and the brilliant tracker moves on a permanent basis to the Droopys Kennels in Portlaw today to resume his stud duties. Sparta spent the winter months at stud with the Dunphy brothers and I understand that his first pups are five months old. There had been hopes that he would regain full fitness following his injury problems but it became obvious over the weekend that it was not to be. Speaking yesterday evening, Phil Gough said: “We probably shouldn’t have run him in the Ladbrokes 600 semi-final. He has had problems since this time last year. We had hoped we could have another crack at the Derby but it wasn’t to be”. Gough and his co-owner John Fitzgerald and their families have enjoyed great times with the Maestro. The son of Crash and Tinrah Kewell won the Puppy Derby at Harold’s Cross in 2011 and then won the Lalrry Dunne Open at Shelbourne last year. Unlucky in the Derby, he proceeded to set a new 600 yard track record on Derby final night and went unbeaten through the Mulvaney Family 600, equalling his own new mark of 32.10 in the final. He had to be withdrawn injured from the semi-final of the St Leger at Limerick but returned to win that epic Night of Stars 600 battle with Ballymac Epic. His final outings were in the Ladbrokes 600 this year where he was battling against injury and made his exit unluckily in the semi-final. That was to be his last race. He was one of the fastest greyhounds we have seen in years and surely the best we have seen over 600 yards. |

PJ Fahy yesterday was the bearer of bad news as he reported that Tyrur Sugar Ray is out of the ETS Irish Derby which will commence at Shelbourne this day fortnight. A very disappointed Fahy, who wasn’t exactly satisfied by the state of the track, said that last year’s Derby finalist “sprained a hock in the Champion Stakes at Shelbourne last Saturday and he is out of the Derby”. Tyrur Sugar Ray was a best priced 25-1 in the Derby betting and would have been on most lists of potential Derby winners. |

Cant hear too much noise about it coming from across the pond, but i'm excited anyway. Think my main dog Skywalker Puma has been clipped into 8/1. Several top quality hounds in the market directly after him but only other really 3 plays so far come in at 20/1 Paradise Madison, 33/1 North Bound and 40/1 Ardfert Thunder. 4 other outsiders but only very small fry. Looks like being a vintage Derby
