Its strange how we all see things differently pf as I actually thought Vic run much better last night. He looked much stronger up the home straight and didn't fade like he did last week and with another 7 days for Dowling to work on him I think he will improve again for the final. This time next week we will wake up hungover in Dublin and know for sure I guess!
Paddys first to price up Vic 7-4 Sugar Ray 9-4 Cabra Buck 5-2 Robert 9-2 Carrow 33-1 |

they must have been looking over my shoulder when i was scribbling prices down after racing last night

When a dog gets crowded early blunts speed other parts of race, imo. Maybe they said he was in great shape but would imagine can improve and only beaten 2 lengths by an on-fire dog. I was pleased just to qualify and with the draw, very hopeful but we will see

now is the time for Slippery Robert to blow the bloody lids for once in his life - walked out again last night and showed brilliant pace up, just smash for once FFS!!!!
must say Sugar Ray was awesome last night, got plenty of trouble early on but absolutely took off - what a difference a week makes when he actually broke well from 1 and all but dropped himself out run up showing nothing |
|
By:
looks clearly like Kereight King went wrong when arriving at the pick up on the vid

Cant see how Robert can win it myself.
No chance of leading Vic, Buck and Carrow and Sugar Ray a much stronger finisher. For me if Vic leads its all over and if Buck leads then just a question of whether Sugar Ray can pick him up which I think he will |
|
By:
He has a prayer on the draw [always was going too] especially the way Buck runs the first bend - he must however come away better, better than he ever has
|

ANY CHANCE OF OPENING THE MARKET?? FFS!!
remove Kereight King, settle bets on him and reopen ![]() |

The 5 dog final gives Sugar Ray every chance, he could go off fav., on the night. I think if the bitch comes away again she could cause the 5+6 a problem and then its up to Vic to poach a lead over Sugar Ray and try to hang onto to thatlead. The Galway one has done a Jim Bolger on it and probably could win it now, after putting everyone away before the start. Cabra is a big danger though and I cant have the bitch, or Bob..........Vic needs a really good week and one of his best ever splits to win. Not impossible.

Cabra Buck a fantastic underrated hound, even now many judges question his immense ability,a fantastic competition dog a fantastic position player, who with fine early to middle asks questions of hounds who would like too lead and maybe stretches the ability of late runners, yes one of the days he will not trap quite so quick, but this hound has been tested in boxes, and a middle to rail runner out of wide boxes would normally struggle in this class against the best of them(this Fella keeps defying the box against well drawn class acts such is Ballymac vic) Trap 5 in a Classic final for a middle runner is no blessing,if he gets it wrong many will understand and appreciate what he did achieve in this 2013 Irish greyhound derby.A fantastic training performance and I wish all the very best.Good job sir!

Whether Slippery Robert blows the lids or not, he won't win the Derby. He's an average A0 dog, as his times prove, and again he had his chance last night. Fire away and take the 9/2 or 5/1 but it's money down the drain as he wont lead and won't win. This Derby final is made for Sugar Ray!
|
|
By:
lots of differing opinions with the different firms
![]() he is underrated metro, surprising really as he had good draws really in the last few rounds when you look back semi final - had to clear Slippery Sooty and then had Kereight King moving left from 4 on top of those inside him quarter final - had Ballyanna Foxtrot to clear and then had Hot Pursuit moving left from 4 on top of those inside him round 3 - in 5 and had Sidaz Eagle next to him in 4 and not much early inside not taking anything away from him as he has blown the lids in all 3 races anyway However he has got an absolutely great draw in the final |

By:
Well done on the big prices, hopefully you're on first six. It's been a bad Derby and there was always a chance that a rag or two would get to the final and so it's proved. IMO, Sugar Ray, who I've never backed in my life, wins this race nine times out of ten! Worst Derby final that I can remember.

No all straight bets - i might stick a chunk up on here to get some out [will see what price i have too do it at] if they ever bother to open the market again
On Sugar Ray as well and he is obviously my best chance - don't think Vic is running great but would be all over him at his best from the draw I agree it's been an poor Derby, thought so before and it hasn't surprised me at all |

Wouldn't like to be the poor fella who laid the big prices Sugar Ray on here either

nearly 20 euro matched in total at prices of 500, 220, 210 and 200, big payout for some account holders if Tyrur Sugar Ray does win next Saturday. But since Betfair have already voided bets on Holdem Spy ,after that dog was withdrawn injured , and are now deciding to void bets placed on Kereight King after the opening of the Ante Post last night or as the case may be , not to void those bets , they will have to decide if the bets placed on Tyrur Sugar Ray between the 25/7/2013, when on the Irish Greyhound Board website , it was posted that Tyrur Sugar Ray was a non runner in the Greyhound Derby, up until the making of the First round draw , when only then did we ALL know for definite that Tyrur Sugar Ray was in FACT a runner and not as posted on 25/7/2013 that he was a non runner .
This is why the ante post is suspended for such a long time |
|
By:
Tyrur Sugar Ray was never officially withdrawn so all bets on him will stand [well they should], all that was said was he would not make the Derby before it started, there where plenty of other dogs getting matched that where never going for the Derby and the trainers had been quoted as saying so.
The others are different in that they where officially withdrawn during the competition so any bets struck after the official withdrawal time would be void |
|
By:
has Declan Carey, Racing Manager , being officially inform by the owner of Kereight King yet ? and at what time was he informed? or did the word just get around Shelbourne Park last night that the dog broke a toe ? Just for information purposes a number of greyhounds on Ante post were withdrawn during the competition and bets matched after there withdrawal . but bets were not voided .
|
|
By:
Pat came back over between races 9 and 10 i think it was and said the dog would not be running - i persume he officially withdrew him, did not ask but seen as Fortune put it up on talkingdogs i persume he has
|
|
By:
word got around immediately all was not well with him and then just before the 9th i got told he would not be running [i wasn't laying him mind!!] and was confirmed after the race
|
|
By:
the dog raced at approx. 9.30 pm so it would be after that , but the time of official withdrawal will be the important time as to what bets to void , if any bet are to be voided. Yes , Fortune had it on the Irish Greyhound Board website that Kereight King would not run in Final , but as mentioned earlier Fortune on 25/7/2013 also Posted that Tyrur Sugar Ray was a non runner in the Derby. Also Fortune posted on the website that other greyhounds had been withdrawn during the Derby but those bets were not voided .
|
|
By:
but Sugar Ray was never withdrawn as he was not entered at the time so bets cannot be voided
bets after dogs have been officially withdrawn should be voided as they then cannot run all betfair have to do is ring the Shelbourne racing office and ask for the official withdrawl times when dogs are withdrawn |

Kereight confirmed as out of Irish Derby final
By Michael Fortune 1:33PM 8 SEP 2013 A huge cloud was cast over the ETS Irish Derby late on Saturday night when it emerged that Kereight King had sustained a serious toe injury and will miss next Saturday’s final of the classic at Shelbourne Park. This means it will be a five-dog race with trap four vacant and the immediate reaction of the firms was to make Ballymac Vic the best priced 2-1 favourite despite finishing second in his semi-final to Cabra Buck. Pat Curtin, the trainer and joint owner of Kereight King, was devastated by the injury. Speaking yesterday as he made his way to Croke Park to cheer on his native Clare in the All-Ireland Hurling final, Curtin said, “It was terrible. One moment we were in the Derby final and I said to Gerry (Hughes, fellow owner) ‘we’ll win the Derby now’. Then Bridget (sister) said to me that there was a problem. “I knew straight away that the Derby dream was over. The bone was sticking out of the skin on the toe and the vet said it was the worst toe break he had seen in 50 years at the track. He was a very brave dog to qualify in the circumstances but I don’t want to dampen the final for the other owners and trainers. This is part and parcel of sport and we wish them the very best of luck in the final”. Kereight King will be operated on by Brian Jones this morning and hopefully we will see the brilliant tracker back in action in 2013. There is also a slight cloud over Ballymac Vic as Liam Dowling revealed that the dog’s paw opened again. “It’s not as bad as it was and he will definitely run unless he picks up an infection. The poultice is back on but he has now missed three weeks’ work but there is nothing we can do about that, our hands are tied”. Metro I just had a look at Sugar Rays history sheet on IGB site,as I am in agreement with you re- Sugar Ray. I just think that somehow Sugar Ray always finds one to do him. He has won in euro 14000K but 5000k of that came for 2nd to Ringtown Snowy over 600yds. For the fast dog he is you would think he would have more 'purse' won. He could put this right at the weekend. He has 13 races won. Some of these heat winner, in various competitions. I just have niggling doubts about him, he's probably not the most straight forward dog, but I still fear him in this 5dog race. What I would see happening though is Vic in front of Sugar Ray, but can Vic go quick enough say 29.60 with this 'pad' injury. He hasn't looked the same Vic since this injury. But Vic could be a problem for Sugar Ray to get around, and if T5 continues his great runs he could be the one. While the bitch has good early and has great pedigree, I pass her and Bob over. Just my early thoughts.
