Good question SCOM, do we know that they are even reviewing this?

Feels to me like the twitterverse getting its knickers in a twist.

If he had said nothing he would be fine. He could have claimed he lost the exact spot of his previous shot. The fact he stated that he went back 2 yards makes it a no brainer. He has to be disqualified.

Having said that, the wording makes it very ambiguous. If you have to replace it as close as possible to the previous shot, you therefore have to place it in the divot mark of your last shot or be infringing the rules.

Cant see what all the bloody fuss is about personally. Its not as if he hoofed up the fairway 50yds when no one was lookingWink. Hes dropped it 2yds away from  his initial shot, and gained no advantage. If I was tiger id be peeved that this was even being investigated. Talks of him disqualifying himself are outrageous. Golf needs to get a grip...

High Risk. He dropped two yards away specifically TO gain an advantage. If this passes, where is the line? 10 yards? In the hole?

well if 2 yards makes so little difference why did he need to go back 2 yards?

By:

High risk - he did gain an advantage, that is the point. He knew exactly how far he was going to hit it. If his bogey putt had been 2 yards further away would he have made it?
By:

When: 13 Apr 13 12:15
Well i'm on Day, but I hope they let it slide. What if as near as possible was a harder shot, he's allready had a penalty so why should he be forced to play a harder shot than the original shot.

These guys are like robots, 2 yards makes a big difference. They have exact yardages which they hit each club, if it's not that yardage they are either hitting it harder or softer than they would like. He wanted to be 2 yards further back to suit his club.

Was an easier shot... better ly... two yards is two yards... more than a club length Laugh DQ!

The rules don't state "within two club lengths", but "near as possible"
By:

When: 13 Apr 13 12:16
define near as possile, could be 1mm?

When marking your ball on the green, you replace the ball as close as you can to your marker.
Not 2 yards away.

im pretty sure the rules are there to stop players gaining an advantage. and woods told the press he gained an advantage. this isnt really about how close he was. its about his interview

yes , all this "2 clubs lengths" is boll0cks.

it comes down to two things :

1. did he place the ball "as near as possible" to the original shot - No.
2. did he take the direct line back from the shot he played into the water - No.

He breaks the rules twice.

Golf needs Tiger. They are not going to kick him out of a Major just as he has rediscovered his mojo
