Having seen the Rickie Fowler interview it reinforces my thinking that one day he will win the Open, casually swatting away questions about the gale force wind like a true man of Ailsa! Wd that man..Happy....you'll go far..

PGA TOUR ‏@PGATOUR
Webb Simpson (leader when delayed): "It stings for me, but it's the way it goes. I'm sure the TOUR's decision was best for all the guys."

He is gutted.

I'm on Simpson, DJ and Bubba. Disappointed but correct decision. Harsh on Webb

Guys - tough on the sharp minds who've traded the losers but the right call overall, the golden rule of betting is that if you can't win then you can't lose....seems fair enough for all..Crazy

Very good shout Norwich Rob.Considering Simpson and Blixt were 2 of my picks i should be well cheesed off but i think they've done the right thing here. That was just a lottery.Oh well,an unexpected early night.

They have to void.

In essence the round did not start.

But it is betfair, and they love all that commission.

Betfair surely must void, unique situation though I don't remember this happening anytime recently.

My pick had not started so no impact on me, but I for one dont agree with this.  If all tournaments were based on all participants having equal opportunity then every round would be cancelled.  How many times has the Open being played out in the lap of the weather Gods, pretty much every year I believe.

Many educated punters on here take time to study tee times, and weather conditions and make their picks that way.

Its happens on a regular basis that players get favourable conditions whether playing in the am or pm.  There's also plenty of tournaments where some players dont get to play their round on the day intended.

Golf does rely on an element of luck regards conditions...but I do understand that these were pretty extreme:)!

Gstar8, reckon that it comes down to this: If the starters cannot finish, and the non starters cannot start then it's abandoned.

Simpson is the only golfer I've backed for this, so I'm gutted. Poor management by the officials imo, conditions are either playable or they're not. As soon as they are deemed unplayable then play should be suspended, not cancelled. Webb's obviously in good shape, which is good news at least.

morning all, went to bed when play was suspended & seems like a right fiasco since!

Looking at my position market trades I made during play last night still seem to be counting & the market is still running. I'm assuming therefore that Betfair's rule is that last nights trading stands as otherwise they would have to have surely voided it by now as the market is continuing to trade as we speak & it would  be even more unfair to have people trade through this morning on what they 'thought'their position was only to suddenly revert their position back.

Anyone happen to have the betfair rule back in their head & have any clarity!?

That was fun. I had watched the recording of the greyhounds and turned over to see one shot - Carl's putt being blown off the green.

It looked awful and was probably the right decision. Do think they should give Webb a 2-shot start though, how he played in that and was -3 is incredible. And I'm not on!

I thought that if the ball couldnt be placed on the marker on the green due to very high winds as we had once or twice in Europe, it had to be called off, but starting again is maybe a bit much. Its the way it goes, its why there are draws morning and afternoon players.

No voiding yet from Betfair, but surely they will have to void all bets matched after the off ?
  Only solution imo.

Does anyone know the scores as it was called off or have a link to them, please ?

Webb was -3, Blixt -1, a few at even and the rest over. A couple were well over. Scoring was tough, Webb was in a great position. Best I can remember.

Cheers therino, but I was looking for everyones score. Webb, Blixt and Stallings were the only one I've found myself.

As Rob said, they are trying to complete two rounds today, but forecast is for heavy winds today as well, so who knows what may happen...
Forecast is for slightly less wind on Sunday and Monday, so at least I suppose they will be able to play then.

They say weather looks bad today too.

Eddie. looked everywhere for scores but nothing.

Bubba said he could have caught his shot in the nets if he had run quickly enough, such was the strength of the wind blowing it back to him in the air

Market suspended.  I'm guessing they are voiding..

Eddie, from what I remember Moore was the only other player at Ev on course who had played more than 1 hole. Dufner had just 'doubled' 8 to go +1 & Fowler same to +3. Kuch was +3 as well.

From a golfing point of view I think to cancel round completely was wrong decision. I was at Muirfield in year of the 'big squall' when Tiger shot 80 when weather came up in Rnd 3. I remember the morning starters had perfect conditions & Leonard who i was on and was in first few groups out on Sat AM shot 67 & ended up in last group Sunday! As they say 'that's golf'& it's not like forecast is much better for today so it sounds like assuming they do play the players will get 'more of the same'.

With regards to Betfair I've just looked at Golf Rules & I can't see anything that covers this & that makes me think even more bets will stand, as after all if they do 'void' last nights trading anyone who has benefited from the trading last night [not me by the way!] could make a strong argument to say they shouldn't have voided bets as their is nothing in the rules to state bets would be cancelled.
By:

When: 05 Jan 13 09:31
last nights golf effectively did not happen so all bets traded during in play must be void.
By:
Eddie the eagle
When: 05 Jan 13 09:34
I'm almost sure Betfair will void bets matched after the off.
It's impossible the have rules covering all possible scenarios, so I think Betfair have a "general rule" saying that in situations not covered in their r&r, they will try do do the most fair thing and surely in this case that would be voiding bets matched after the off.

A few years back DJ was declared the winner after three rounds of a tourney when the last day was washed out. I backed him after day three, and before the last day was due to start, but all bets were canceled and I lost lots.

To me yesterday's bets have to fall into the same category. There was no play, therefore no bets placed 'in-play' should stand.

It looks a moot point as the market is suspended, but if I'd done any backing or laying last night and Betfair didn't cancel them all I would be livid.

I've got an email from Betfair with a long list of bets they say they are voiding, but most of those bets were matched long before the off.
Is it possible that Betfair will manage to fukk this up ?
