i remember watching this last year and thinking if webb holed even half the putts he missed from within 10 feet he wud have won this easy, even some of his misses were from within 4 feet i think,im hoping it was down to being unfamiliar with the course rather than not bothering to put in much practice at the beginning of the year as he is my selection this week.

Good to have the golf back, especially the PGA Tour.I've gone for three players in this one...

Webb Simpson-I normally wouldn't bet as low as 15/1 but i've reluctantly done so due to the shape of the field.Went close to winning this last year and a course that doesn't penalise wild tee shots and has shown in the past that it suits good putters, should be up his street.

Scott Piercy-I'm not exactly bowled over by the price(which has shrunk further with the bookies thanks to Palmer tipping him) but i just can't get away from him.Hits it long, decent putter, makes plenty of birdies and went well on his debut here last season.Had a cracking season last year with a win and finished it off it off well also. His confidence must be at an all time high.

Jonas Blixt-Making his debut here but i'm willing to take a chance on him.In 2008 another Swede,Daniel Chopra, won here on his debut. His game reminds me a bit of Blixt in that both of them don't seem to stand out tee to green but they both can putt the lights out.You just have to look at some of the past winners here to see a lot of good putters among the roll of honour.Appleby,Ogilvy,Furyk,Chopra,Stricker etc.Blixt could be the next one.

Good luck to all for the season ahead.

This is one big putting competition, you then factor in strong winds and if you can't putt then you can't win....so on that note..Snedeker,Blixt,and Zach will do for me.gl to all!

Also put a few quid on Wags and two glove 100's for a 30 man field is very good value.

tobe id take care laying front runners in this event. With the small field those who get off to a good start usually are there or there abouts. This event has seen a few guys do well from the off.

@Mighty Whites 2008.....i hear you and will take your advice on board when decision making. Am plus 50 each on the 2 players I mentioned and my head is not working for me.As I have no liabilities as I just traded hose, should I now back them for 50 each ? Just my head is not ticking over.

hmm if i understand it right..you are zero the field and plus fifty the two mentioned..if you back them for 50 each you will be -100 the field

Very savvy advice there Mighty. I got done over last year laying Stricks in round 2 when his price went low. Never looked in doubt from that time on. It pays to remember your blunders.

funny how we remember these things rhino. with each year that passes our savvyness rating must go up a notch. once bitten twice shy.
few questions rhino:
1) what was stricker's score when you laid him last year?
2) what was his score relative to others?
3) what was his price when you laid him? (it's ok you don't have to say how much you layed just his priceLaugh)

could come in handy this yearCool

you hear about guys saying they hate a course, or never played a course before, or are playing like cr@p, or playing with new clubs, new caddy or some bullcr@p, and then tear it up first couple of rounds. it happens quite alot.
lets see what the golfing gods serve up. noone is wrong in what they reckon here.
poulter's last effort here in 2011 was -18 t6th.
not shabby but can he overcome his current self confessed 'slapping around'?
golfing gods....

i have followed his twitter for not very long, but i was thinking, on the flipside, did he declare on twitter how awesome he was playing before his hot run in australasia last year? or anytime?

he strikes me as a very confident player so he would actually admit that is playing well if he was.
that or he may only confess when playing bad because that's human nature to be modest.
but he's not the modest type so i wouldn't rule out him tweeting something like , 'striping it magnificently at the moment.'
has anyone who has followed him for longer seen him tweet anything like that?
if not then i wouldn't read too much into his latest self deprecation.
if he has then he must be hitting it REAL bad.

Isnt Poulter taking the next 6 weeks off until the matchplay?

Get the feeling he is just turning up here as he has the chance to. I guess he will be relaxed with low expectation which may work in his favour.

pokeron. to be fair to Poults (and its hard to be) he does generally say when he has had a round that didnt give him anything. And then goes on the next day or two to prove it.

I think you take them all at face value. They are paid well by sonsors and its all a bit tongue-in-cheek

tell you something, i made more on betting before too much info was available

just talking it through, donemylot. we could be talking about anyone's comments on twitter.
funny how because poulter is my avatar people think i'm going to say he plays well everyday and suck his d1ck. untrue.

however, i would like someone to answer my question. has anyone seen him tweet the following ever, 'striping it magnificently, should be joint fav this week' ??

if so then i would take his latest tweets more seriously. otherwise it's just like the guy at the pub who says he's no good at pool then pantses your @ss.

honest mate, yes! He has said something along those lines once or twice. Something like 'hit it brilliant today but they didnt drop, just need a bi of luck'

Now, thats okay if we didnt see the round (if he want playing with Rory we didnt), and it gives some ideac of the mindset going into the next day.

Want the truth though? Its all bolox, we did okay before we knew what these blokes were thinking 5 mins after the post-round hand shandy

Yes a final word on laying poults or betting against him etc i think moreso his lack of tourneys over next month means this is really the warm up for the year ..why else would he have such a clear lack of play in coming weeks , his real season starts i feel in next month or so

i reckon kuchar is too short, but thats just my opinion..i would have had keegan and stricker vying for favouritism
