Thanks MW.

Thought a win would get you in.

Obviously not.

He won an event alongside a WGC. Winning those don't even get you in the Masters. To qualify for the US Open you need two PGA tour wins in the twelve months between US Opens.

Evening all, I've had Watney top of my long term list for this since last year when I heard him talking about all the time's he has been to Olympic Club since he was a kid & how much he loves the place. Obviously his game has been off the boil of late but hoping he's been gearing up for this. 100s e/w for top 6 will soon look big if he gets going.

Of the obvious picks I like Rose best followed by Kuch. The greens are fast bent grass, which as the same as Memorial & Aronomink both scene's of Rose wins.

I'm also taking my usual Major Championship punt on Badds who I'm convinced will win one eventually.

Finally of the big prices I've had a few quid e/w on Points & M Wilson. Both West Coast winners & both should be suited if the wind blows.

Wilson needs to find his game again to make 'home town' Ryder Cup. He has a touch of the 'Janzen's about him & has the bottle to win if in mix. Points has found his game a bit again of late & hung around the leaderboard till very late on in PGA last yr to prove he can 'mix it' in the majors.

Good luck everyone!

can't get away from Tiger, his driving of the ball last week was fantastic,

for me if he drives it well he wins, Furyk is my saver bet, this is his type of course.

Westwood In great form. Overdue a Major.
Donald Patience is going to be the key here,Luke has it in spades.
McIlroy For old times sake.
Dufner In exceptional form every tournament he plays.
Stricker A little off the boil lately, but I have high hopes.
Bjorn Playing better than ever.
Karlsson Been backing him all year......now would be nice Robert !!
B Haas Really off the boil, but has the class to win here.
H Haas Showed some form lately......huge price.
Castro Played well last week. Who knows ?
Knost As usual,Colt is a massive price.
Jacquelin Absolutely no form at all........but hey ho.
Points I have a feeling D.A. could be there on Sunday night.
Na If Kevin ever wins a Major,I'll be on him.
Ishikawa Certainly has the ability.
Noren Ayee.

These are my selections for the US Open. I am looking forward to it immensely, and I would like to take this opportunity to wish my fellow Forumites all the best with their selections.
From 5pm to 3am BST on SS1 (Thursday and Friday) and 8pm to 3am BST (Saturday and Sunday),how can you not be excited ?

Please remember to keep all b1tching and moaning to a minimum,be it aimed towards commentators, fellow forumites,or the unfortunate demise of certain players. As this is considered poor form.

Yor humble servant

Ooh, my blocked user list has a second member. Hooray?

@maggot - thanks for the reminder re: Chappell not finishing 3rd 'here'. As you say though, you can't go wrong at 900+.

@Ski - I find it harder to speak definitively, especially after the forum bagged out Dufner and Fowler in consecutive weeks, only to watch them pick up their maiden wins Crazy. Lee definitely needs to harden up before I'll back him at a major though.

Sorry to see Snedeker withdraw. I wouldn't have backed him but he's a classy bloke and would have enjoyed watching him.

I'm not a huge Tiger fan but if he hits 10s I'll start backing. He's a great one to trade if nothing else.

@God - I thought playing with Tiger brought out the best in Phil? He certainly has the head-to-head edge in their last few encounters.

I really like the form of Fowler and Garcia coming in, but can't back either of them in a major on account of their mental strength (or lack thereof). Dufner's form is second to none, but sub 30s is too short for me.

Team so far: Chappell & Mickelson.

Tried to have 400euro e.w on Luke at 14s in Ladcrokes, offered 150 e.w. It is one of the biggest sporting events of the year, and they, the worlds "largest bookmaker", restrict a punter to a 300 bet. Utter disgrace. Was in Bruce Betting shop last wk, having wager on the Euros outright, they were standout price on Spain. Full wager accomodated. Of the bigger operators, Powers would seem the only ones willing to accept a sizeable wager.

miss anomaly - a very good point and one I know to my cost. I was on Charlie Wi @ 300.0 for the AT&T pro-am earlier this season and I'm still convinced I'd've collected had Mickelson been paired with anyone other than Tiger! That said, they're paired in the early rounds this time & they have the Bubba factor to deal with too.

I have read Dave Tindall,s Blog on Bettingzone and he is hot on Aaron Baddeley,he is well informed and an all round reliable Tipster,I have taken Bads @ 25/1 Top 5 on BF.http://www.bettingzone.co.uk/golf/betting/story_get.cgi?STORY_NAME=golf/12/06/12/manual_113340.html&BID=3712
I have backed Robert Garrigus @ 15/1 Top 10 on BF which I think is good value,Rory@ 14,s Outright, " anyone that thinks someone like Stephen Ames Steady Game will suffice here needs to look at the length of the Par 4,s & 5,s! Rory will be Driver/5 iron compared to Ames Driver/3wood,On this basis Big Dustbin Johnson came thru on sunday for me " Very Convincingly" and although Stats run against a follow up I have tentatively backed him with a view of going in heavy if close on saturdays back 9.
Please Remember there are 2 books trading at 14/1 for wire2wire winner,"Thursdays Leaderboard will look like a different tournament come Sunday night!
Good Luck Guys!

putt-4-dough  Interested in your post, I too have followed and won with Baddeley over several years, he clearly has the game and in particular, the putting to win a Major and perhaps his best chance is a US Open. The problem with Badds is that when he makes a bogey, he often seems to follow soon after with a further error and can all too quickly vanish from leaderboards, I know to my own cost. I have concluded that he simply doesnt have the attitude to win a Major now and though for sentimental reasons, I hope I am wrong, I just dont see him featuring, sadly.

I really like Luke this week, never thought I'd say that, but I think he will go really close.  I also like Phil at the price and I've been on Dustin for this for a few months now, but I don't like the fact that he won last weekend, still at least I got 70 and not the 34 out there now.

Others I've backed are (mostly on the "I'd be sick if they won and I hadn't basis"):
Na
Wilson
Badds
Grace (big, big price for me and I do actually think he could give it a rattle)
Bae
Cink
Piercey
Quiros

and a few like Scott, Sergio and Oosty but only for a euro or two to try and get me out for free.  Looking forward to it, GL all!!

Anybody who spotted my post last night will notice that I picked Badds [& Points as well, perhaps Tindall read it!]

I do think Badds has the class & game to win a major. As Tindall mentions who lead the US Open after 3 rounds in 07 & inexperience got him on the Sunday, I think if memory serves me correctly he had a triple at the first and that was it basically.

He is an enigma as when he's off he drives at all over the place however as the courses he's won on such as Riviera & Harbour Town prove when he's 'on' his driving is & Iron play are top class.

I was on him last yr at a decent price when he won at Riviera and I backed him that week as his game was coming around with a good solid finish in previous outing & I'm optimistic for that same reason amongst others that he'll go very well this week.

Fao GolfDaft!
I see where you are at with Badds and on this basis I too agree that it is a big call to call him the winner of the US Open 2012,but i do like the way he approaches his putting,He picks his line, 1 practice swing and lets gravity do the rest,
I have backed him in the Top 5 market only but plays tough courses well and I ammore hopeful than expectant.good Luck with your picks!

Welcome back pokeron, still lovin the ponce I see... Good luck mate.

Taken a couple of big hitters, Woodland and Bubba and another Points backer signing in, DA has serious mojo when playing seaside courses for some reason. Not sure why Luke is so short, 0 top 10s in US Opens and the lack of length will work against him here.
