i know you are a layer, but have you had any backs either to trade or to hold
good luck, a brave project |

no lapdancing clubs in st andrews and if woods wants to win he will. 7.6 is HUGE however for the longer shots im also going for justin rose and alvaro quiros.

I have backed a few massive prices, 600+ to hopefully trade .Don`t want to post them now as it could be called a ramp ( rather leave those to Archie)but I will do before the off.The only player I have layed so far as part of the book is Darren Clarke.

Good luck Frames glad to see you are doing this again. Tigers drift must be due to his switch to a broomstick putter!

|

Excellent
Good Luck frames, very enjoyable reading |
|
By:
Looking forward :)

|
By:
Thanks all.As with last time DML ,it`s just numbers.
My favourite thread title of the week so far ,"the weather is going to be a factor". |
|
By:
Good luck, frames. This - as last year - will be the 'go to' thread for the Open. Looking forward to it.
For the record, I'm laying Woods outright and top five. He's simply not mentally in shape to handle the questions (on and off the course) that keep coming. Plus the putter has been abandoned. |
|
By:
frames, i knew it would make a few smile ;-)
I agree with you bet Tiger then lay him as I am sure he will make a fast start in near windless conditions. Aim to lay him at about 4's and take the free bet. Harrington is value, nerves of steel. |

Afternoon chaps, hope you don't mind me pitching in on here too.
Be really interested to read your thoughts in play frames as you have made some moves recently in the markets which I would have done myself (Bank permitting ) I'll post my thoughts tomorrow at some point in more detail but as usual most of my trading will be done in play. I actually think Tiger is starting to offer a bit of value at 6/1+ but the real reason for my post today is your thoughts on Darren Clarke? I thought after last week's improved display he might be able to get off to a fast start here and may offer a decent trade? Surprised at your decision to single him out as lay pre event at a big price, just wondered what the reasoning was behind it? Good Luck to All and let's hope for a profitable week ![]() |
|

I shouldn't speak for Frames, but my guess is simply that he's taken a view regarding Clarke. His price is plenty short enough, given his form in recent times, therefore I suspect he's playing the long game. I may be wrong...
Top stuff Frames. This was easily the thread of last season, may this one continue in much the same vein! |
|
By:
Agree with the 'long game' view as I wouldn't fancy him to win it and you are right of course he is very poor value at the odds when compared to others.
Just thought he may be more of a back to lay rather than an outright lay, but it's all about opinions. I guess that's why Betfair has done so well. |
|
By:
Good luck frames, going to be a cracking week. And Eric, please stick around, you could be a star in the making.
|
|
By:
DaVinci - I feel the same on Clarke and was left scratching my head after backing at 110 before he'd officially qualified only to then see the odds go to 120!
Fingers crossed he gets off to a fast start first few days...! Love this thread, only just discovered the betfair forum ![]() |

Cheers all.
Chosen , good luck but I have noticed you have gone anti Tiger since his private life came into the open ,not sure it`s a good plan to keep laying someone because you detest them.I have not layed Monty for at least a month now .He`s done nothing all season but still managed two Top 5`s in the majors.Played 9 good holes in the US Open and I don`t remember anything special in The Masters and yet he was still thereabouts. DaVinci, with regards Clarke Ronsk is correct,I tend to think players shorten up too much after a good week.I look at the players around Clarke in the market ,does he really have a better chance than Schwartzel,Quiros,Karlsson and Co ? He is a 1/3rd of the price the two Sorens.I would not back him at 300 but as always you pays your money ............ Rose and Donald amongst others have shown recently that taking on these in form players is by no means foolproof.I`m fairly sure Stricker will be on the early lay list, halved in price after a pitch and putt victory last week.Actually pitch and putt might be successful around here. Eric,I`m not sure I said to back Tiger then lay later.Dangerous play that one but good luck. |
|
By:
Thanks for the reply.
Stricker definitely on the lay list for me too. May find thing a bit different this week ![]() Just thought Darren might like this course a bit more than some you mention, but we'll see. Good luck and look forward to reading your thoughts over the next few days. |
|
By:
frames, sorry if I mis-understood your first post? But, if the weather forcast is accurate and Tiger tees off in windless conditions, I can see him being 3 under by the turn and the price shortening bigtime to about 3.5! So depending on the weather nearer the day I aim to get free bets on all thanks to Tiger. But I can not see him winning. Harrington, Ogilvy, Karlsson, Glover and Soren Hansen for me. Tempted by Dredge 300s is a big price for the course record holder!

Excellent thread. Mind if I join you? I have been laying contenders in running in some recent tournaments, and may well adopt that approach as the week progresses, but I have started with a some backs. I've done outright and top 10 on all my picks, most ones I feel could go deep or win, and I have had a couple of speculative punts at long shots as well.
I've gone for Fisher and Wood as my only bets at under 100.0. At similar stakes I've gone for Stenson, Choi, Schwartzel, Watney, Overton, Yang and Slocum at prices of 110 to 400. I've split one bet between Hansen, Ikeda, Faldo, Fujita and Noh at prices 600-1000. |

Frames: An excellent thread, have a good Open, sir.

Good luck Frames, I'll join in again although I think this tournament was my biggest loss last year
![]() However like a moth to a flame I will be going in again with the same strategy. Mostly backing the underrated PGA players and laying the overrated Euro ones. Laying each one to lose £100k, the main lays at sub-100 are: McIlroy Mickelson Harrington Rose McDowell Poulter Kaymer Casey Donald Fisher F Molinari Wood Obviously have laid plenty more but not gonna clog up the thread with all of them! All these players are currently -£96k (or will be thereabouts once I've been filled in). Biggest greens as follows: Ryan Moore +£676k Matt Kuchar +£419k D.A. Points +£353k Rickie Fowler +£296k Zach Johnson +£258k Jason Day +£252k Y.E. Yang +£248k Steve Stricker +£233k Players that I have neither backed nor laid are currently +£3.7k, this should go up a bit by the time the tournament starts. Obviously this could go very well or very badly, it's not ideal to be betting much bigger on one tournament than I do for the rest of the tournaments all year but I think you've got to take advantage of liquidity when it's there. Have not laid Tiger, I had an order in at 6.0 which I thought was just about reasonable but people laying 7.6 and upwards must be bonkers. If you fancy him to have a bad week there are a ton of other ways to oppose him; if Tiger has one specialty it's winning golf tournaments so if you lay him and he starts well, it's gonna be a long week. Will try to keep this updated even if it looks horrific, I know that will give plenty of readers some enjoyment ![]() |
|
By:
this will be the read of the week good luck to all
|
|
By:
Ferking hell KR, knew you liked a punt from reading your posts, but didn't realise how much
![]() I actually quite fancy G-Mac this week, but can understand your point about his price. This should be a great read this week............. and can I just reiterate Good Luck to all. |
|
By:
7.6 for Tiger to win starting off early on Thursday in calm damp conditions....thats my starting play.
|
|
By:
Thanks Saxon.
Welcome aboard KR ,just like to echo DaVinci ,fecking hell they are some figures.Look forward to following them through the week. |
|
By:
I agree with your thoughts Knight Rider.
Some big reds there though! |
|
By:
Tiger has to start turning soon, far, far too big imo.
Good luck KR, hope you and frames, and all the good guys, of which there are many on here, have a good week. |
|
By:
clearly the golf thread of the year for regulars and all will learn something we had missed...as I am working its my must read til home time,my public will have to wait
My crossed out list is pretty much like KR plus Phil...it seems like GB and I have all the form runners but someone from the US will win,Cink again, seems a big price,Duval showed glimpses of class in big events,DL 111 goes well in this event and I for one wouldnt mind seeing a good guy like him winning....whatever wish the whales fun and thanks for the insight and education....good luck one and all |
|
By:
If the tabloids are to be believed Tiger has done several hundred millions to the gorgeous Elin
Depending on which rag you read it varies between 300 and 700 million. If I had just done 300 million I would not feel like playing golf and if 700 is nearer the truth I would be lieing in a dark room sobbing my eyes out. Maybe his mind is strong enough to cope with these alleged deals. I do not know. |
|
By:
yes DL3 is an interesting one, didn't think he would be backable this week thanks to his outstanding Open record but managed to get a fair amount at 350+. Bigger price than Tom Watson, really??
|
|
By:
Be nice if eddie the eagle contributed as well would deffo make it thread of the year, would understand if he did'nt thoughgood luck all
|
|
By:
I don't have much to contribute on this thread. I've mostly been on vacation for the last 4 - 5 weeks so haven't done much in the markets during that period and is also heading to Turkey on Thursday morning and will spend 9 days there.
Therefore I am not creating any kind of book in The Open this year. At the moment the % is also heavy in backers favour , so this week I will probably only be a backer of something like 5 - 8 runners. Will try to green out during the tournament if they start well and if I can find the time to access internet. |
|
By:
This was a cracking thread last year, really enlightening, great to see it again this year!

By:
Ditched his putter, lay him til the cows come home.

for the record ive backed robert rock @700 with 50k green along dustin johnson and jb holmes.rock is in good form lately and anything over 500 is a bit of an insult |
|
By:
