I don't get that...300 of the 4 man's money is used to match 300 of the 1.5 man's money...there is 50 extra floating and this is used to take another 50 of the 1.5 man's money

....leaving 150!

again I think :p

yeah my last post was wrong, but it still dont add up tho... :)

if extra is bet against the 1.5 man's money then who wins it?! the 4 layer can only wins his 100, accounted for by the 1st matching...

simply put the 4 layer will win 100 or lose 300, the 1.5 layer will win 200 or lose 100, you cant reconcile that by putting more stake into the system on one side...??

lol this is confusing, something doesnt add up...

lets try to settle this:

suppose 500 is available to back on runner A @ 1.5, nothing on runner B

you lay B @4 for 100, and are immediately matched at 4...

those who think betfair are not leeching money: how much would you expect to see available on A @1.5 after matching?

if you're laying player B at 4s you want 100 for a 300 stake.

our grand layer at 1.5 wants a grand for 500 stake.

Option 1.

you can give him 300 of that grand and only charge him 100.

This is a balanced scenario.

Our 1.5 layer finds that he's getting 300 matched at 1.33.

Betfair take no money.

The remainder to back on A is 200.

Bayes has pretty much confirmed that this is NOT happening.

Option 2.

The A Layer cannot get more than 300 quid of the grand because that's all you have decided to risk.

It has been confirmed that by laying at 4s you will get all 100 matched at fours.

If we look at the unbalanced scenario, the Player A layer gets 300 matched at 1.5, at an exposure of 150.

If Player A goes onto win, the player A loses 150 and you win 100.

Who keeps the 50?

if you're laying player B at 4s you want 100 for a 300 stake.

our grand layer at 1.5 wants a 500 for 250 stake.

Option 1.

you can give him 300 of that 500 and only charge him 100.

This is a balanced scenario.

Our 1.5 layer finds that he's getting 300 matched at 1.33.

explain this someone please

over 4.5 goals Zaragoza match

unders is 1.05/1.06 (there is 120 sitting under 1.06)

i've layed overs at 22 for 2 (no money trying to back overs) - bet came matched instantly but the 120 under 1.06 didn't change at all
By:

wasn't the 1.06 backer, he was first in the queue but his 120 stayed there untouched for quite a while

marcus the bet matching was originally brought in to try and make the cross markets more efficient and match similar bets across markets such as correct score and next goal scorer etc i.e no goal would be the same as 0-0 if no goal was scored and so on . Your bet may have been matched against 2-3,3-3,3-2,any unquoted on the correct score if that arb was more beneficial

a case of playing bookmaker on the site but using clients monies to ensure risk free profits

That doesn't sound good does it.

that's got to perform REALLY well hasn't. Querying all those markets.

Much more performant than executing one piece of basic arithmetic to guarantee best execution.

"What we probably will do at some point in the future is extend the bet matching algorithm to match a customer bets that could be matched, but aren't currently. For example last weekend we had customers looking to back the draw in the match odds market for the Hatton Mayweather fight unmatched at 24, while other customers were looking to lay the draw in the method of victory market at 24, also unmatched. Obviously we could match both customers but currently don't. If we can find a way of doing that that has no negative impact on bet matching performance then we'll introduce that and it probably will be noticable, but it would be a stretch to call that a Betfair robot - we'd just be matching opposing customer bets which is what the exchange is supposed to do."

Luckily they'll now have the processing power from the introduction of data charges to bring in this this fancy bot. Pity that given the amount of coding gone in to query all the relevant markets they seem to have forgotten to include the matching at best odds pice of code :).

Lucas me old china

take this scenario (tennis market, no money around trying to back player B, player A trading at 1.02/1.03)

i lay 60s for 10 on player B at a cost of 590, i get matched by betfair who match me with the 1.02 layer at a cost of 10 to him - i think this is correct so far

but in order to get matey's 10 betfair only have to place 500 with him, so what happens to the extra 90?

OMG is this still going?

Put it this way.

If you are in financial trouble.

No in real financial trouble. What do you do?

Of course, you start to sell off the family silver.

That's what's happened here!

Hope this helps.

very interesting

I mentioned a few months back in a courtsider thread that Bots were going to be the the new enemy and fast ones at that.

Isn't it interesting that they have started to run this BOT at the same time as usage charges.

If anybody tried to run a BOT to combat the BETFAIR Bot they couldn't, because the new usage charges would kill them
You have to have a piece of kit plugged in all the time hitting the mainframe 1000's times per min..
the miniscule profit you would make from trying to scalp the betfair Bot would be wiped out totally by usage charges.

They said usage charges were to stop the firms scalping when by the looks of things it's to stop the firms from stopping Betfair from scalping..

So they have the ultimte Bot with no competition

very very very clever indeed.

Footsoldiers 08 Mar 23:22

I suppose if I ran Betfair and big firms were already doing this or planning to do it.

I would say to myself right how do we stop big firms doing this

and the answer is we do it ourselves....

maybe the SP on the horses is also linked to this in some way and the fact that by doing this Betfair can keep to thier promise of offering better prices...

I dunno all just hypothetical

but it aint by accident that SP on horses, usage charges and now this BOT have all come online within weeks of each other

If I place a bet asking for a certain price, I don't care how it is matched - if my bet is matched, it's matched, it doesn't matter who it was matched against, it was matched, full stop, at the price I asked for, so I am happy along with the other party who matched my bet.

If you place a bet at odds of 3.4, and then complain because your bet is matched at 3.4, I really don't see how that is anyones fault but your own. In Betfair, you ask, you get. OK, there may be a better price by laying all other outcomes, or by laying the other runner in a two runner market, but if there is a better price (albeit this better price only appears while you are in the countdown), ask for it, or submit your bet with that price in the hope it will get matched.

If you aren't happy with your bet being matched at the price you originally specified, well why are you placing the bet to begin with???

Betfair aren't scamming or slicing profits from anyone here, they are simply matching more bets by using this system. I would imagine this was introduced around the same time as the 'Keep Bet' function was unveiled. And why was the Keep Bet function released? Because every time Betfair cancel unmatched bets, they effectively cut the amount of commision they receive by removing potentially matchable bets from the system, whereas now they will get matched, which will appease punters as they have got the bet they wanted, and Betfair get the commision they want - along with this change, which matches someones bet at the price they wanted...

Betfair are in an enviable position in this market, and this is highly unlikely to change. They will not be risking their position in this market, which is only going to expand in future years/months by pocketing the 27p leftover by someones bet that 'could' have been matched at a better price if Betfair had not matched the bet at the price the user originally specified...

Rant over :-)
