We have a big arber on the block. The small arbers are doomed. I am going to look for a job.

yes youre right Betfairy - provided there is money in the queue below your ask price you will get matched at that. But if there isnt (and there sometimes isnt) you will be matched by Betfair in full at the price you asked for. Which is why i borught up your football bet. Under the old system you would have a chance to get out of that bet if there was nobody laying. Under this new system the moment you hit the button you're doomed.

if enough people complain then they will have to back down.

in my case then all the layers took down their money at 1.13, 1.14, 1.15 and 1.16

that just didn't happen because the money was there on offer the instant my bet got matched

it was there during submission, disappeared the nano-second my bet hit the system, then reappeared again the nano-second my bet got matched

You refresh every nano-second. No wonder Betfair is upset ;)

Seriously, Robin and Marcus have described two different things. Marcus' experience is that you didn't get best execution, Robin's example (and mine) did.

lol u should see my right index finger

now i find someone can see my bets before they hit the system

someone has the ability to have exclusivity to that bet

it's as if my 1.10 was going to get matched at 1.10 no matter what else was up

The down side has been pointed out but there are some plusses to this system. OK, I lie, there is one plus to this system - that you will get matched if an overround/underround is created.

I can think of a good example where it would have been very much to my benefit. I had backed under 2.5 goals late in a match Arsenal were losing 2-0 a couple of months ago. I wanted to lay off at 1.01 but there was a big chuck waiting to lay at that price so I tohought I'd play it safe(r) and try to back over at 80. To my horror someone matched the big chunk at 1.01 and wanted plenty more but my 80 was still there 3 seconds later as Arsenal scored and I was well over 3k worse off.

Just for clairy, can I describe the following situation.

Runner A: 1.61, 1.62, 1.63 (all with, say 100)

I place my bet for 1000 @ 1.55, which creates an overround when it hits the market in 5 seconds.

At the point, Marcus says I will get only 1.55. Robin says I will get 100 @ 1.63, 100 @ 1.62, 100 @ 1.61, and up to 200 @ 1.55 (assuming there's enough money there's enough money in the overround on the other runners).

Can't both be right.

man marcus, i play mainly the frames, games and leg betting, do u think it will creep into all sports? im always setting the mkt price in these forms of betting which is obviously fast moving, rarey do i push the back button. does that mean im ok as ive set my price and will only lay that price, just have to be careful of the hoovers?

with respect to marcus i think his situation is a bit of a different issue. Maybe something to do with refreshing or maybe the people were using fill or kill software.

Heres another example:

team a: 2.58/3.00
team b: 1.64/1.65

Lets just say i tried to lay team a at 2.9 for 500. if there was no money at 2.9 i would still be matched at 2.9. Because Betfair would automatically take my bet and back the 1.64 at the same time making profit in the process.

What surely should happen is that if i lay 2.9 i should automatically be matched at best price of backing 1.64 rather than laying 2.9. At the very least i should be able to cancel the 2.9 and go and take the 1.64 instead.

Betfairy, i'm saying that's what happened in my case - possibly the other lays were betfairs as well or spoof money, who knows

Cal, betfair bought this system into play on the exchange games to increase liquidity - that has never been a problem on in-running tennis markets - why guinea pig us and not say leg betting which needs the liquidity thesedays

EMAIL JUST RECIEVED FROM BETFAIR

The change you've noticed is that we've made the code that matches customer bets more efficient. Previously we would only attempt to match customer bet requests against unmatched bets of the opposing bet type (backs vs. lays) on the same runner in the same market.

Where there is no opposing bet to match on the same selection, rather than just leaving a customer's bet request unmatched, bet matching will now attempt to match the bet request against unmatched bets on other runners e.g. in a soccer match odds market if there is no unmatched lay bet on the home team against which to match a customer's back bet request, the bet matching algorithm will now attempt to match that request against back bets on the away team and the draw. As before the process matches opposing customer bets and will not result in Betfair having a position in the market.

The effect of this change is that customer bet requests will stand a greater chance of being matched and the markets will be correspondingly more efficient. We are gradually rolling this improvement out across all applicable markets on Betfair while ensuring there is no deterioration in bet matching performance

Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any further enquiries.

By:

When: 07 Mar 08 10:43
My take on that is that when you insert a back into the market, if it sends the market overround should be telling you you have actually placed a lay on the other outcome/s but it doesnt, so in effect they are giving you false information

If i wanted to lay both outcomes i would, but If i place a back i expect to place a back, regardless or not whether it equals the same thing

If Betfair implemented this on Intra Financials surely they could make a mint from the city boys as that is an overround manipulators paradise?

No - looks like they've messed up the implementation. The examples described leave an unaccounted for profit.

This is specious. It suggests that BF don't have a position on the market but it fails to mention that they have generated a profit on the market by not matching at best price only at the price the punter requests.

Unacceptable.

Jd777,

There are no Betfair robots running on the sports exchange. If there was one we'd announce it, just like we did with the exchange games one

how can that be allowed

What you've decirbied is best execution (aside from Marcus' experience). I'm not sure the above statement should happen. It would be nice if you got the best available price on the other runner. But it would also be nice if the other layer got your price. Betfair are abviously the man in the middle here, instead of the botters.

The fact that this change has been made without wide pubic announcement is very naughty and could have cost people lots of money.

Or are they hiding behind "political speak". In my book getting a profit out of a market through overounds is having a position in the market.

If they've just screwed up then they should stop running it immediately

what will they do when i want to match a tennis player when he's about to lose a match and ask for back odds above 100?

will they lay it on the opposite player at 1.01?
