d13phe - to give you some background... i lost close to 100k in the first 2 years on her, bugger all knowledge of exchanges, plenty of supposed know how of nags and football but 0% discipline.

I was working for a bank in the City making good cash and bascially blowing the excess after bills mortgage nose candy etc on here.... i quickly realised the beauty of laying as opposed to backing... but i still carried on losing... race after race, chase after chase.

I then realised i had the knowledge to make this work but needed a serious re-working of my personal discipline..long story short..i got that sorted and now ONLY lay when i see fit...not every ferking race (lol) as in the past.

Bingo.

Do you straight lay or trade your position........I went on an amazing run in January straight laying 130 horses with only 2 winning at an average 6.0 price.....a lot harder recently....have started to average my lay price down in-play to bring my averages down with some success!

hi way to win...

straight lay, choose my selection and then let the lay ride, no trading etc.

btw i lay to level stakes liabilty as opposed to level stakes lay amount.

Well,

I have nothing better to do this evening having turned off the MK Dons game at halftime, as I collected on my 0-0 lay , and it was not that enjoyable, anyway, and just read this.

I can remember Koo and his original postings on here. Don't know the man, I don't think we've even corresponded on any thread, but to any newer folk who doubt his sincerity re his postings , you shouldn't.

Whether you agree with his methods or not, this has been a facinated half an hour read.

Best of luck Koo with your quest. My own thoughts are that if you take away the winning and losing of the 200k, and you have the ability to maintain what you are doing over the long run without going on tilt you probably can do what you aspire to.

I look forward to the read.

Apart from your experience in this game the most important factor to your trades is your 'mindset' - play within your zone.
Allow your 5k bank to grow and play with the percentages....this way you are within your 'comfort zone' and your bank and trades should grow steadily.
Most people when they first start on betfair....deposit their few grand and think they are 'king kong',I guarantee they lost the lot because they had moved out of their comfort zone and it took them time to realise what went wrong!
Look at Koo -as good as he is -won a fortune but his mindset had no experience of playing with this kind of money and so the inevitable happened!
How many times did one stupid trade send the 'whole pack of cards 'tumbling down!
Always play within your comfort zone!!!

Good advice waytowin, been throgh that myself, trebeled my stakes after a good week only to find myself making less than the week before.Wouldnt press the button for fear of losing my bigger stakes lol.Koo i think its a good idea to have some rules written down and keep them next to you.read them before you start nd keep refering to em as the day goes on.its only what i have learned myself, finding myself well in front and losing it all on one stupid trade.Good luck koo am sure there are a lot on here who want to see you do well.

i havent stpoped as such, just the account is running on empty. Got about 600 quid and am trying to play as normal as possible with it.

Also got to think seriously about what stakes to use in gruss as today showed maybe the win stake is too high as i hit it a few times and lost to big a % really. Or do i simply need to press the button less often

If its any help koo,i was 140k in front on the jump season,i did 80k in a fortnight after 5 impossible things happened.

You are best off trying to play on the back foot for a while.

I am doing no damage as such but have become very shot shy of late.

Its a game that can bite u in the asss at times. I dont think ive ever backed so many last fence fallers this year.

The deposit thing for me means i blow the months profit in a day anymoe. Im annoyed ive lost today but i can handle 10k losses. Its the 60k lossesd that mess with the mind.

I'll be back tomorrow and be more determined to just fiddle and win a few quid. Need to really think about staking more.

Right here goes the bets that cost me the money, as on a good day i'll post the p/l.

Basically the head went walkabouts as normal after a loss or but thankgod in one resp[ect that i withdrew yesterdays winnings as otherwise the overall total might have been down.

Not what i wanted but hey ho, you win all the time. Onwards to toomrrow.

Also one thing i was quite proud of is that i never threw the last 500 away and as such thats a small improvment

Total available: 499.11

Koo I think my advice about going for it was wrong. I didnt realise that as some one else said that you where outside your "comfort zone".......this obviously effects your decision making. In your present frame of mind I think its about 60/40 you make the money you want or** it all away.....and them odds aint good enough.
Have you considered working alongside others? either in a ex shop or renting an office and splitting the cost with others..I think it could help cos its easy to lose perspective when you work alone.

Unlucky today Koo, I couldn't get going either, Sedgefield was very tricky with John Dillon being a my own personal low point :(

I had to remove the deposit limit on my account because it just wasn't practical. It works on a rolling 24 hr clock as I'm sure you're aware. This means that you sometimes have to sit the next day out (when the red mist has long gone) which is infuriating to say the least.

waytowin you are quite correct with the "comfort zone" theory.

upon reflection i am going to build up to a 100k over the next 6-9 months.

going to up the bank to 10k from April. and slowly increase it every month.

Shaun isnt the fact you have to take a day off a good one ?

When ive done this before when ive deposit the max i then play cautious so as to make sure i am playing the next day.

The fear of not being able to gamble makes me pl;ay safer.

jesus, that makes me sound like a proper ga,bling addict :)

2 bad losses in a row was the second one a red mist chase or a normal bet that lost

waytowin - as i mentioned in prevoius posts, the discipline/mindset is the biggest edge i have.... as i know for a fact 95% of punters/traders on here don't have it.

i was one of them..but spent a vast amount of time reading and getting my mind AND body together. I work out in the gym every morning without fail mon-fri at 730am...healthy body healthy mind ;)

I am trying to shed a few pounds to aim for the healthy bosy and healthy mind.

The mindset as well is what im tryiong to improve on. Which is why i did this thread to hihlight to myself how bad i was and where i need to improve. Hopefully i can keep the thread going and others with the same problems can post and see if we can help ourselves and others.

Ive tried reading stress management books as its the stress that affects the decision makiing when chasing and overstaking.

Whether you should take the day off following a disaster is a moot point imo Koo.

Looking back through my spreadsheets I have on occasions, followed up one terrible day with another. But, by the same token I have also had some very good days and physologically it feels good to get on the comeback trail asap.

The bottom line is that if you are doing it professionally you should work because by definition, you are going to win more often than you lose. In mitigation, I concede that the red mist can come down more quickly the day following a disaster because you're still on semi tilt I guess....
