JML, you are quite correct in what you say. This 'alex' guy was exposed on the footy forum ages ago as a £2 punter after starting a thread similar to this about the 'next Ryder Cup captain' after looking into his claims it turned out that only £1500 had been matched on the whole market at that time, and more to the point only £4 had been traded at the price he quoted !!! Not to be trusted at all.

While I don't want to get involved in a forum squabble, because I'm too busy gambling, I should shed some light on this.

I don't think Alex communicated his points too well but he was not bullsh!tting. In the rounds market there were 3 £1000 lumps to lay at prices of 15 and 16 , which is where he's possibly getting his 45k figure from. You could get up to 20s on the high st and needless to say all the money was taken in the end.

I only had a bit (I made £4.72) so I know it was genuine and although I didn't quite know where he was coming from at times, I had no reason to assume that Alex was talking cr@p.

LOL

How do you get 3 lumps on 2 prices?
By:

It is entirely possible for 2 selections to be the same price.

I hope that helps.

It was round 7, round 8 and round 9. A grand on each, at prices between 14 and 16.

The arb was to take those 3 lays and back Group betting rounds 7-9 at 5.7.

Sorry if my lack of clarity confused you. You sound like a very suspicious sort. Now, if I can get back to my betting...

There were some extremely low prices matched on purple for those rounds as well.

A lesson learned Ian, thanks. I did put some prices up over there but then I convinced myself that there was insufficient volume to allow me to green up so I didn't pay attention.

2 posts-so many contradictions.

The prices have gone from 15 and 16 to between 14 and 16.

20s on the high street has become 5.7 on here.

Finally everything has been cleared up.

There was an arb but one side was available for a tiny amount.

3% profit before commission and just over 1% after commission.

Even if both sides had been available it wouldn't require more than £15K.

The sensible option would have been to lay the incorrect prices for as much as possible.

A much higher T/O and a much higher profit margin.

PC means premium charge. Arb it for free money or take a risk on a price movement. Take your choice was this was fred about.

Or a bit of each? Or are we getting too tricky now?

Rueben is an astonishing tax expert. He can dish out advice on tax without gathering the relevant facts and furthermore he knows where his Cap Lock button is.

Excellent value.

Who knows Dicky. But I could have an educated guess.

The Chelski punt is still there with a bit of movement in the last few minutes. 26.25% gross margin is still sitting there on the books by my reckoning.

I am all for making money from betfair/bookies in any way possible, but why would anyone who spots an arb put it on a forum ? Especially this one.

Surely if they were serious punters they would skim it for themselves ?
By:
Alex the old wrinkled retainer
When: 19 Nov 09 09:42
It is not my style to arb stuff that will take 4-5 months to come to fruition. But go back to the first posts and the rationale and you see that there is method to my madness.

The best ones are shared on IM with like minded clever people.

Alex, I did read the thread before posting. Your first arb it seemed would come to fruition within seven days, well done if it has or does. If the second one was not your style then why post it in the first place and why suggest that people do lay it here at a certain price (a price where it seems that only £5 has been matched) and then back it elsewhere ? I post rarely these days but still read the forum at opportune times, I wish you well with your arbs but why post an arb in the first place ? Why not just take the profit yourself ? I certainly would not tell anyone of any opportunity that arose through my own hard work and diligence. Good luck to you.

You have clearly not read the fred. The first needed more cash than I have. The second I am working up a green in a different way.

However this is not pure altruism. It is networking with a view mutual future profit. Do you understand now?

Alex, I clearly have read the thread.

You clearly do not understand either arbing or hedging, but I wish you well.
