The worst thing about this for the Swedish team is that women have great memories. Particularly of when it has all gone wrong.

The England keeper saved one ,does that mean she's a contender for SPOTY now ,it worked for that Earps bird.

Worst night for Swedish women since Stan Collymore
|
|

thing was if the gk scores all well and good but if not then afterwards youve got other outfield players coming up and its impossible not to think they dont fancy it. otherwise it would have been one of them and not the gk taking what should have been the winning pen

That shootout was v funny

I know. Then she misses and, gutted, she has to go back in to save again. Absolute Brian Rix stuff. The older among us will get it.

Sweden ,talk about throwing it away ,in the match ,then about 4 chances to win it in the shootout ,shocking stuff from them .

It's not just the Women who need to learn how to take penalties. You see the same thing in the Premiership. Sidefooting the ball towards the corner gives goalkeepers a chance. Hit the ball anywhere
5/6 feet above the ground (as Laura James did) and no goalie on the planet can stop it even if they guess right. If they guess right they dive and cannot possibly reach a ball 5 feet above them. It has always amazed me that footballers don't understand that! |
|
By:
They just started ball watching and credit to England, they took the initiative. Just shows. Never give up! Never!

Great excitement for the kids. We’ve seen it all before. At least we had, before the pens.!

well, my prediction of England to qualify was right eventually, but I don't have the brass neck to claim that I won money from it. It was so crazy and unpredictable I still lost nearly a ton. And I was lucky at that.

the shootout was not a good advert for womens football. ive seen sunday league shootouts that were better
|
|
By:
you could see that they were all so knackered mentally and physically, that many of them wouldn't be able to take a pen properly, except maybe the subs.

Some lucky beggar climbing Mount Blanc tomorrow could get a football.

Sorry Sweden! I like ABBA!

A kind of madness kicks in... |

It was a terrible penalty shoot out, but right now I doubt they will care too much. Not a huge vote of confidence when your goalkeeper is one of your penalty takers.
Agyemang and Kelly substitutions swung the game. I don't think you could blame Sweden too much for setting out to hold what they had. Presumably, they will revert for the semi-final and the players who kept us in will be back on the bench. Hope will be that England have a relatively comfortable semi-final - although you can never be too sure with the defensive frailties - and Spain and France to some extent soften each other up - perhaps extra time? Anyway at least they are still there, just about. |

That penalty shoot out was one of the most comedic things i've seen for yonks, i reckon UK Gold will be showing it for some time to come.

As reality TV it was gripping and a roller coaster…. If you cared…. dare I say it if you had backed England for easy money you cared!
As a sporting spectacle it really was awful but all publicity is good publicity. Good bounce back after France. Good fight back yesterday. The band waggon will get bigger. After the next Test and the Lions I have nothing better to watch. I hope to nick a schilling tonight on Spain, risk a Schilling on France to beat Germany. That will do. Italy will be really defensive so I may not back England -1. Got really lucky yesterday not going to squander it. |

Swedish goalkeeper might want to avoid ordering bacon this morning.

She made some great saves!

You're sounding like the commentators WD. "what a finish" for our equaliser for what was literally a tap-in from a yard out. Something even Arsenal could achieve.
|
|
By:
When Newcastle scored 2 goals
deep into stoppage time to salvage a 2-2 in a game we hardly touched the ball just made the theft all the sweeter. That the goalie lost his bearings and stood 2 feet behind the line, even more sweeter, that his arms were too short to reach the goal line to make a save just about capped it. Celebrate the win, make some sort of suggestion about name already on trophy then go make it happen. |
|

Well done Whispering. I had a lucky escape thanks to the joys of "draw no bet". Lady luck was with us, ride it while you can. I will be looking to 3-0 and any other whatever tonight that's two shillings worth.

Going to have to call you out on this Aspro Assuming you have seen an Arsenal centre forward… and I haven’t……. When have you seen an Arsenal Forward in the 6 yard box? Ha! |
