Were she alive Cilla Black could read the league 2 results. Surprise! Surprise!
Here we are again, just 2 points covering the top 6 and 4 points covers the top 10. Both bottom clubs win comfortably, Newport 3-0 and Crawley 4-0. It's anybody's guess what the table will look like by Christmas. |
|
By:
league 1 is virtually the same. 3 points seperate top 7. 4 points seperate 8-20th . no wonder winning betting is virtually impossible

Accrington play Tranmere today. This is going to be a hard fought contest with both teams looking for points to pull clear of the relegation zone. Although I think Tranmere will edge this contest I'm going for BTTS as the safer option.

overs at evens has to be of interest i reckon.
Tranmere's last 4 away games scores were = 1-4.3-3.4-2.3-1 Accrinton's last 4 home games = 4-0 ,0-1,1-3.1-0 |

It's been a relaxing weekend without any bets and good to see 4 L2 teams beating L1 opposition. Oldham and Chesterfield's results looks impressive. A dismal outcome for Gills losing to Newport and Notts were matched by Brackley losing on penalties in the end. I watched that game and was impressed by Brackley's skill and stamina over 120 minutes, a good advert for the national league.
Looking to get back into the rhythm tomorrow and the top two Swedish teams are in action away to lowly opposition. I'm particularly interested in Hammarby away to Degerfors at a juicy 2.32. Small bet so far. Mjallby away to Varnamo are much shorter at 1.62. |

That should be 5, I overlooked Cheltenham beating Bradford!

Foin - there are some decent sides at National League level these days, not much difference between them and those in L2 and lower L1. Brackley actually only got promoted from National League North last season, reaching the top div of the National League for the first time. They were more than a match for Notts co last night and endured some poor decisions against them otherwise they would have won in normal time.
The Gills are right out of luck at the mo, they lost on pens yesterday and the ref ordered a retake of one Newport pen after the gills keeper saved it but was deemed off his line - fair enough but the Newport keeper did the same and got away with it ! No consistency ![]() Chatham played well, took the lead early in the second half but then their keeper spilled a routine cross and it was 1-1. Heading for pens with 5 mins left when the Buxton captain scored the goal of the round from 35 yards. I had been hoping for the Gills to be drawn against the Chats, what a day that would have been, the Battle of Medway ! |

Yes, I'm aware that this is Brackley's first season in the fifth tier. It is arguably the most difficult league to get promoted from and there are calls, justified in my opinion, for two automatic places and a third by play offs. Most clubs promoted to L2 seem to do well and many go on to a second promotion in a couple of seasons. Think of Mansfield, Lincoln, Doncaster, Stockport and Wrexham amongst others.
Newport are showing a bit of a resurgence but are still rooted to the bottom of the table. It will be difficult for them to climb away from the relegation zone as there are no really poor teams above them. I don't know what's wrong with Gills, they seem to make a habit of a bright start then fade away. You have probably a better insight than me. |

League 2 is still a minefield and I won't be risking any bets. As a bit of fun and to test the waters I picked out two on form Home teams Chesterfield and Swindon and two away MK Dons and Walsall. On paper they should all win. Let's see at 5pm tomorrow.

Perhaps I ought to post the current exchange prices, for information

Gills take on Bristol Rovers tomorrow and its impossible to be confident about either side doing the business as they are so unpredictable.
Gills haven't won in seven games since Gareth Ainsworth had his heart op, good news is the manager is recovered enough to be back at Priestfield although he will not be in the dugout at Bristol's Memorial stadium tomorrow. Gills have certainly missed him ! |

there are 5 points between 1st and 13th in this league. any team can beat any team there is very little between the lot of them. if accrington can beat swindon 4-0 this currently is not a league to place any reliability on or to have a bet.
fwiw foin your selections look spot on ,, but its league 2 and anything can happen |
|
By:
Thanks The Dragon. The MK Dons price looks massive since their opponents are solid. I think right now the Dons can beat anybody so the price is a stand out for me but I've resisted temptation and will keep a watching brief.
Incidentally I picked out L1 Huddersfield as my best chance tomorrow afternoon from UK teams. They are clearly better than the hapless Plymouth who have a long journey to Yorkshire and the price is right in my opinion. |

I’ve been following Colchester for while
They’ve woken up of late in league Backed them top 6 and promotion Hope That fa cup not git in way there momentum 11-10 take care Bromley boys early kick off |
|
By:
not sure on huddersfield foin their form is pretty poor lost three on the bounce and only won 2 in 8. having said that plymouth are just as bad with 3 losses on the bounce also. anything cd happen.
unlike you i couldnt resist a bit on MKD 9/4 is a big price. |
|
By:
Thanks The Dragon. You are right that Huddersfield are going through a slump at the moment and that is a concern. I thought Plymouth were really poor when I watched the Exeter game and their results show it. Plymouth's defence is the worst in the league and I'm hoping the home side will take full advantage.
You are right about the MKD price, I'll just have a small one. |

huddersfield win 3-0 dons 2-2
well done foin on hudders good call |

Gills end poor run of form with a steely 1 nil win at BR. The Ainsworth effect ?
|
|
By:
Thanks, too many goals for my correct score guess in the comp.
Only 2 of the four L2 form picks won. Grimsby amd Salford only managed draws too. Just Notts Co and Chelters to play now. |
|
By:
Just 5 points between 1st and 10th after todays games , quite remarkable.
The Gills game against Crawley was very watchable, a good advert for the division. 2-2 probably fair overall but the match seemed to turn on an offside decision just after half time when Dack headed home for what would have been a 2-0 lead for the Gills, the linesman thought otherwise. However replays showed Dack was well onside ![]() |
|

We have had another demonstration of how closely matched the teams are from top to bottom in this league and many results turn on fine decisions. Five out of twelve were draws. Good results for Colchester and Milton Keynes Dons and an important win for Shrews. The situation is starting to look ominous for Bristol Rovers who could easily suffer a second relegation if they don't improve.
|
|
By:
no bet league in terms of wins/draws/lays -way too unpredictable
|
|
By:
Gills are 5/2 at home against Barnet who are Evens despite no win in four. I must be missing something as those odds don't look right.
|
|
By:
they dont get it wrong very often.
i am on cheltenham today at a very healthy price given the form of the two teams. cue the away win for bristol ![]() |
|
By:
barnet 1 up
|
|
By:
I have only risked one bet in L2 as posted on your thread Fleetwood v Shrewsbury BTTS yes.
Every fixture looks far too tricky and perhaps a blind squirrel blanket bet on draws would be as effective as it would have been last week. (I'm not advocating that by the way). |
|
By:
1-1 HT. Gills defence a bit depleted hence the Barnet price, the visitors should really have been a couple up but Dack yet again steps up for the Gills with a superb 25 yard free kick in to the top corner, he is too good for this level when fit. Sets the second half up nicely.
|
|
By:
1-1 FT. Not a great second half, probably a fair result although Gills will be the happier with a point.
|
|
By:
Another 5 draws, blind squirrel would be counting somewhere between 4 and 5 points level stakes profit again.
Good wins for in form Bromley and Col U who continue their climb up the table, Walsall hold on to the top spot. They clash with third placed Bromley next Saturday. |
|
By:
Bromley are top of form table with 5 wins in 6. Walsall are 16th with 2 wins in 6. Ive had a bit of 23/10 on Bromley. They have beaten some good teams on their run and cd well win again
|
|
By:
Good thinking. I might keep the draw onside and just lay Walsall.
|
|
By:
yup might be worth having the draw on yor side jic
|
|
By:
I'm actually thinking of laying all those odds on prices, we know how this league throws up surprises. I've already layed Grimsby tonight.
|
|
By:
yes grimsbys form is defo not good-won 1 in 6 with 3 defeatsvand 2 draws and i have also layed them..
tranmere lost 1 in 6 so lay looks the way to go at the prices.. gl foin |

My lays today are
MK Dons Barnet Colchester Salford Walsall Just a low stakes experiment out of interest. We already had one odds on favourite overturned on Thursday, I'm hoping for a few more. |

will watch with interest Foin given how the league is panning out u must have some good chances there.
