Thanks The Dragon. Walsall and one other apart from Barnet is about break even, three will show a profit.
By:
Only one of the lays won, ironically the shortest price favourite, Barnet at 1.35
The Walsall and Salford games were looking good for a while but not to be. |
By:
yes walsalls comeback was a bit of a wrencher as was boro v derby. wd have been 2 nice priced wins if they cd have held on

i have backed COLU TO beat GILLS at the weekend at evens
By:
That's a difficult one (they all are in this league). Col U have the momentum and are playing at home but Gills are hard to beat and draw a lot. Good luck with your bet.
There are some strong contenders for a home win, Barnet, Bromley, Crewe, Swindon but we know from experience that some will fail. I might try and pick out a few draws from this week's matches. |
By:
i presume u mean tuedays fixtures foin
colu won 4 in 6 and 3 on te bounce gills won 1 in 6 but as u say 4 draws in that period With the 2-0 home win against Cheltenham, Colchester United are on a 3-match winning run in the league. The team has won 6 of their last 8 matches in League Two. Colchester United stats show the team has picked up an average of 1.50 points per league game since the beginning of the season. Their form stats indicate that in the last 8 league matches the team's points per game value has been averaging 2.38, which is 58.7% higher than their current season's average. With the 3-3 away draw at Shrewsbury, Gillingham have recorded 3 consecutive draws, extending their unbeaten run to 4 matches in the league. The team has drawn 4 of their last 8 matches in League Two. Gillingham have conceded an average of 1.11 goals per game since the beginning of the season in the league. Gillingham form stats indicate an average number of goals conceded per game of 1.63 in the last 8 league matches, which is 46.8% higher than their current season's average. maybe a lay of gills as a cover bet? |

Yes, you are right, I hadn't looked at the dates. I've been concentrating on the cricket this morning as I have a chunk of my bank invested, much more than I bet on football. England have pulled themselves back into the game with a last wicket stand of 61 so far, the Aussies seem to have misread Archer. The Gabba is a happy hunting ground for the home side and I still expect them to win.
I hope ColU win as I have some L2 winner money on them, they are doing alright after a dodgy start. |

By:
hey foin,
yes i spent all morning watching the cricket which is my fav sport. i didnt have a bet but chuffed root got his hundred in oz(i baclked him to be top run scorer in the outright mmarket). England are headless chickens apart from root when it comes to batting. brook is totally brainless for test cricket and once again sooo many batsmen got themselves out. i bet stark cant believe his luck bowling at this gung ho lot. good to see the last wicket partnercip flourish. tomorrow shd be another fascinating day |
By:
I doubt the England batsmen will ever learn Dragon, Root apart. He showed how to bat in test cricket, score when you can but above all do not throw your wicket away.
On the League 2 front, i would be wary of opposing the Gills now that Gareth Ainsworth is back in the dugout. He returned for the Shrewsbury game when they were 3-1 at HT, he gave them the hairdryer during the break and they came back to get a draw. He is a very good motivator, hopefully for us Gills fans the winning thread will return shortly. With so few points between the top half it's all up for grabs. |
By:
Test cricket is my favourite sport too, the Dragon. For most of my time on Betfair I only ever bet on Test cricket. It is the perfect trading medium. With a few exceptions, it's now withering on the vine due to the spectator popularity of biff-ball in its various forms. I decided to have another look at football at the beginning of last season when I joined your competition. So far so good, it's fun if you don't take it too seriously and keep bets in proportion.
By:
thanks guys ive never relly had many bets on cricket just the occasional ones on a one off basis.
football for me has been over the years the best betting medium and i put time in to study it on a regular basis almost as a hobby. i found it more unreliable in recent years so have paired it back. i still enjoy it and put the effort in but its almost too unreliable to accept decent returns. i could go on but i wont. i guess when it comes to cricket and football they have both changed beyond recognition since we were younger men and mostly not for the better. lways good to have and read both your informed posts. |

Anybody know if Whispering Death is due back soon ? A big cricket fan and also Gills supporter !
If WD is looking in, some sad news to report, one of our favs from the late 70s Kenny Price has sadly died at the age of 71. Bit of a legend at the Gills, forged a fine striking partnership with Danny Westwood. RIP Ken. |

Cricket is a traders dream, especially test matches with their ebbs and flows. I wish i was disciplined enough to take advantage like some of my fellow forumites.
Unfortunately i prefer just to back my judgement and let things ride, often to my detriment ![]() It would be different if i was betting for a living or needed to make a profit but for me it's purely entertainment these days. Tennis matches must also be good for betting in play if you are quick enough. The odds seem to change with every point in close matches. |
By:
I would love to see Whispering back. I've discussed cricket with him on that forum many years ago, then politics where we disagreed on more or less everything but kept it civil and recently on here where among other things we discussed to merits of Kentish ale.

A nice Bishops Finger perhaps Foin ?
![]() Me and WD are mainly poles apart politically as well but then its no fun agreeing all the time is it ? WD is a similar age to me and as we were both Medway schoolboys it was a rite of passage to follow the Gills, hence we often swap memories of those times. Hope he returns soon. |
By:
Your both Whippersnappers Dixie
never agreed much with what WD said but at least he stuck to the sh1te he believed. |

By:
Yes, Bishop's finger and Spitfire, both great beers.
I hardly drink these days but those are my favourites. |

Another 5 draws from 12 week 19 games (I chose the wrong one tonight).
Walsall consolidated their position at the top with a hard fought win at Oldham and Notts won a 6 pointer against MK Dons to go second on goal difference over Swindon. Bromley are hard on their heels one point behind in 4th. Bottom club Newport, down to 10 men snatched a 93rd minute equaliser at a sparsely populated Mornflake stadium against all expectations. Bristol Rovers long losing run continues and they are just one point above the relegation zone level with Crawley and a point behind Shrewsbury. All three were relegated from league 1 last season indicating the relative strength of the League 2 clubs. |
By:
home wins for walsall 7/10 and cheltenham evens.
away wins notts co 13/5 and swindon 11/8 my picks in this league this weekend |
By:
My thoughts for tomorrow.
Gillingham and Walsall home wins Chesterfield, MK Dons and Tranmere Draws. Only Micky Mouse bets on this league for me at this juncture |
By:
The Shouting Men of Gillingham take on the Bluebirds of Barrow tomorrow at Priestfield.
Given the form the away team are in it really should be a home win but the Gills have found it hard to win lately, drawing their last 4 games. Just 4 points between 6th place and 15th shows what a difficult division this is and it's impossible to be dogmatic about the outcome of any game. Bradley Dack has been in good form for Gills lately and could be worth a small wager to score the first goal @ 7s. |
By:
U “s got Salford in early kick off today
Around 2s where my money at Beaten top two in league in last six games Away from home Played very very good under 21 Westham team that Give first team run for there money Hopefully that won’t dent the run there on For promotion |
By:
Five draws again
and I only managed to pick one. Once again they include some you wouldn't expect, a blind squirrel would have done better. Good results for Notts, Swindon and Bromley, Chesterfield and Salford also stay in the hunt. Bad news for Bristol Rovers as yet another defeat, ten in a row I think, finds them occupying a relegation spot. |
By:
Gills drop points again with yet another draw. Coasting at half time at 2 nil up but somehow allowed Barrow back in , the away side scoring with their first two shots on target (they only had three and the third was in the 97th minute). That's five draws in a row now and is proving very costly to promotion hopes.
By:
Colchester throw away a 3-1 lead… very frustrating to say the least… had a tough run to be fair, home to Newport next Saturday so surely a home banked, followed by a trip to Crawly on Boxing Day, then the Gills away…
By:
Echo what you said there
3-1 up get beat And almost 20 extra min at end Twice now they’ve let me down punting wise Leave them alone Hope get in top 6 from now on |
By:
Jack Payne back on the bench today after injury, arguably their most influential player… keeper went off injured, that’s a bit of a worry… six points next two games and right back in the mix…

Steve Evans has been appointed as manager of Bristol Rovers. I notice that Crewe's odds for their match tomorrow is 2.06 which would be a fabulous price if it wasn't anticipating the new manager bounce.
By:
colchester 11/20 and bromley 11/8 -great price are my main bets in this league for the weekend
By:
I agree with those, the Dragon and have also backed Crewe with a saver on the draw just in case the carrot and stick applied to the opposition has an effect.
By:
hey foin,
yes i normally dont back against any team who has a new manager -been stung on many occassions in the poast by it. i have had an interest bet on crewe though and have doubled them with rochdale who must have a strong chance at Alty tonight |
By:
That early red card must have messed up a lot of bets. It was a forward sent off so Crewe's solid defence was able to save a point. Covering the draw served me well. I suspect there will be a few more draws in this league tomorrow and I will try and pick some. In the meantime I've backed Fleetwood BTTS and a small bet on the draw.
By:
I went a week too early with my Dack first goal scorer bet, he obliged today without my dosh on him
![]() Gills 1 up at HT. |
By:
colu and bromley oblige ,,,,nice
By:
I was at the Bromley game Dragon....the 11/8 you got was value....good call as I think they went off shorter.
By:
thanks HN.. they are in very good form atm
away to bristol rovers next |
By:
Looking at today's fixtures I'm expecting a slew of draws. Might just have fun-size bets on them all to see how it works out.
By:
Added time winners from Accrington and Bromley spoiled it somewhat but 4 draws today for over 2 points profit.
By:
WD Foin. Unfortunately the Gills draw cost me a 40/1 5 timer as i had them to win - and they missed a pen
, my faith in my local team is running out !I really fancied them today as well and they had plenty of chances to get the winner late on, such is life. |
By:
Thanks,DD. I noticed the missed pen and was silently cursing but then they equalised a few minutes later.
Gills are replicating last season's form and are unfortunately looking like they will end mid-table again. There's still time for a recovery though, we are only one game short of half-way. |
