Plan has always been to lay start of season and green up after City match, as no telling what will happen with City FFP further down the line. Easy money for less than two months outlay. As posted when fixtures announced Arsenal's opening fixtures were savage and even though they have not done much wrong so far, Arsenal will be >4.0 by next Sunday evening.

Under Premier League instruction, Murray Rosen KC has selected three people to form the independent commission that will hear the charges, with one member of this panel required to be a financial expert. The hearings will be conducted privately and, though there is no formal timeframe, legal experts believe it will take a minimum of two months. When the commission publishes its verdict, either side can go to an appeals panel and, after this, arbitration. If all fails, either could attempt to find an argument to take to the high court. Under the rules of association of the Premier League there is no opportunity for either party to go to the court of arbitration for sport (Cas) in Switzerland.

Last season they parked the bus; it was their undoing imo. Win that game and they likely win the league. At the time it wasn't the worst option, but I thought it quite sad that they didn't go for it and try to win like Champions do. I have a feeling Arteta might try the same tactics, but hopefully City will score and provide the public with a game worthy of watching this time around. It was an awful game for the neutrals.

that's a re-writing of history, that draw kept Arsenal 1 pt ahead in the table with +14 GD. All well and good saying Arsenal should have gone for it, but Arteta knew they were at that time, better and had the better squad. Smart thing to do and it worked.

We all know that the actual game was Villa, but that game was cop-out. Would Fergie or Pep have played for a draw? Not in a million years. I don't think it was the smart thing to do; it meant you had to win them all and that is by no means guaranteed in the PL. Top defensive display though, probably up there with the best I've ever seen.

Great point away to City. It's the 9 other winless games that were the issue. "Just go for it" sounds noble, but would likely have ended the season there and then

Arsenal did the correct thing and it worked, they were ahead in the title race and needed only 1 point to stay there with favourable fixtures left to play. Maybe if Klopp would have done so in some matches instead of going gung-ho he might have won more titles but only won 1 in 9 years.
Arsenal also parked the bus against Manchester United in the 2005 FA Cup final, took it to pens and won. Nothing wrong with bus parking in the odd match if it gets the result you need. If Pep himself had been more pragmatic in Europe over the years he also may have won more than 1 Champions League title in nearly 10 years, they were always better than Madrid in the match ups but Madrid never let pride get in the way of a fall and were defensive when they needed to be and. |

What a joke team? They have a habit of shooting themselves in the foot like every London club. I believe Arsenal was 10 points clear one x'mas then succumbed to the pressure and overtaken by City one season.

The 2/1 and whether Pool/Arse win the league is all dependent on City's performance (without Rodi since the 2/1 which is a big factor) and the outcome of their case, which is priced into the 2/1.
Early days to assume Pool will be able to perform at a better level under a new manager than last season and get better results (likely required) when they haven't faced a really tough fixture yet. Arsenal have had injuries to irreplaceable players and played Villa, City and Spurs away already. 4 points down is ok. A bad loss but Pool had one too, also after an Intl break. Then you have the contract situations of Salah, VVD and Trent, after Xmas esp. They are not going to keep all 3 imo. Unrest with the fans, esp if you agree terms in Jan and it's leaked and players leaving not being fully committed potentially. You're not going to risk a bad injury if you're leaving on a free for huge wages at Real Madrid or Saudi and your head is turned. Long way to go. Pool should keep Salah and VVD, they still have 2-3 years left at least in PL imo. |

Liverpool could prob afford to keep all 3 tho as they haven't spent in the off season. It would prob be worth it but I'd let Trent go if he wants to. But any or all might want out and they are powerless to keep them. The fans could get toxic like when Gerrard wanted to leave and was threatened.

If Arsenal were to finish well off the pace points wise (finish 2nd or 3rd : 12-15 points off winners and not win anything, would Arteta come under pressure with the fans?

They'd get irritated for sure, but for the time being, as long as they were competing they would stay faithful in the short term, but as each season passes the irritation would pass through the crowd like a virus, as it would any team in a similar position.
