USA have no real quality whatsoever, what they did have was a very simple game plan, defend with 10 men behind the ball and counter attack down the channels, England were set up to keep possession, show patience, don't show quality, don't take a man on, that's too dangerous against their runners, next to no pressing, no urgency, no belief they could break down a limited opposition.
You just need someone to get hold of the talent that England clearly has and get them to dominate games with attacking intent, Southgate is a Simeone disciple who's brain goes into survival mode when he thinks there's danger and reverts to safety first. I don't see any difference between him and Hodgson apart from the fact he's very good with the media. Having seen Ecuador twice, they're very similar to the Yanks and we'd struggle against them as well, best bet is to actually get Holland. |

To be fair MJK nobody comes out of the game with any credit. All the talk of Bellingham being "Stevie G & Lampard rolled into one" is somewhat premature.

68 mins before you make a change when you are playing like that and a few hundred million quids worth on the bench...
same as in the Euro final when it was going abysmally...absolutely nothing learnt clearly.. result not really a problem but all the same England issues at major tournies....can't keep the ball well....too many sideways balls when we have it...no tempo.. same old... |

I thought Rice was pretty poor in first game. So, was surprised (well a bit suprised, considering what southgate is like) that he got picked again. THere was far too much positive talk about the Iran game. They really were nothing special. And the goals were mostly deflections, lucky pokes and poor defending. But the media have to paint it as "fantastic finishing" and "England's young stars shine" etc. They never learn.

Maguire did well. Everyone else shít. Wouldn't blame Kane too much as the support for him was awful. What does Mount do? Best sub would have been the manager at HT.
