so they're throwing away £5200 a year and that's just one customer, strange business plan, get rid of the small fish and all that'll be left is a smaller number of big fish in an empty pond

Betfair are behaving like school bullies, I would understand if you were receiving money from them, however, its for you to use there service and pay them. I did suggest there heavy handed nature was going to drive customers away,  I am certain the vast majority on here wont be forwarding documentation to them.

What sort of losses do you accrue per year SontaranStratagem?

I think the context goes rather beyond BF making it more difficult for the sake of it..the whole industry is coming under ever increasing scrutiny though as ever usually ignoring the obvious areas of problem..

sorry to hear though Sonts...hopefully can find your way back at some point.

Emit

Not a lot we’re talking about £2500 a year after all is said and done

Utterly ridiculous, I tried to explain how dumb it is to the “agent” on the chat but its like talking to a fooking brick wall with them

I will stay on here and ultimately bet with the other smar kets exchange until they hit us all at some point

But I aint betting with this lot anymore

Be careful adding a new card as well, bloke on another forum was literally forced to give his bank transactions statement so they removed the old card...

Thats fooking scandalous that

We aint talking a little bank slip here thats my point

We’re talking a 3 months worth of bank transactions, a full bank statement ie 4 pages plus with all different company names on it, company you work for etc

Its fooking scandalous and a line needs to be drawn im sorry

They can feck off.

Theres zero common sense applied to this as said in the horse racing affordibility checks thread

Ive got a net loss of £327 over the past 3 months, thats over 3 months not a week ffs

That means ive made a withdraw and stuck it back, another deposit lost and then another deposit made and then a small withdraw and so on and so forth

Money going back and forth culmilating in a small loss of 327 quid since May 1st... almost 3 months.

Its totally ridiculious but Ive got to be watched like a hawk? Are they taking the pi33 ?
By:
SontaranStratagem
When: 28 Jul 22 22:20
Thats not bad going for me personally 327 quid lost over almost a summer

Its money I wont miss it was pin money ffs

that there was no evidence to suggest that the “deeply flawed concept” of affordability checks reduce problem gambling, only gambling overall. Its possible to lose more on the national lottery, bingo or at a casino, without producing any documents to prove your earnings. the attack does not appear to be on gambling but the bookmaker industry and they are so blind they cannot see it.

You can spend tens of thousands on cryptos without affordability checks
By:

The affordibility thing is a clear breach of some laws surely ?

They cannot be getting away with demanding full bank statements, wage slips etc

And you guve in to them on that whats next?

Its filthy beyond belief

"There was hardly a family in Georgia who could not own to their sorrow at least one male member or relative who gambled, losing money, houses, land and slaves.  But that was different.  A man could gamble his way to poverty and still be a gentleman, but a professional gambler could never be anything other than an outcast."

What's this "checks" thing all about?   Is it a British government regulation or a Betfair regulation? Not a chance I'd ever send then bank statements, proof of employment etc. Whoops

Nothing here, although I have just noticed that in terms of deposits / withdrawals I'm actually in profit by a whopping £35.

Sofa

They can be triggered for various things, mine was a random suspend when trying to place a bet and a directed to chat message where I was asked for proof of funds ie the bank statement via a pdf, they said soon as it was provided they would reopen my account there and then and I would be free to “enjoy the freedom of the site” the fooking cheek of it

Someone on another forum added a new card and wanted to remove his old one, when he clicked the remove option he was met the dreaded contact customer service or whatever it is. And he was asked for the proof of funds bs from there where he decided not to bother thinking he coukd just deposit on the new card anyway and, he was able to deposit from the new card for a day I think it was before the bast@rds decided to fully suspend his account and demand his bank statemnt before reopening his account.

Theres going to be some right horrible stuff going down with all this

They can just suspend your funded account without warning and hold you to ransom, blackmail almost ffs

You cant do sh!t until you give them the documents they want

You can argue the to33 with the idiots on the chat but its like talking to a sociopath ffs, you might as well talk to the dog youd get more sense out of it

Said before, my brothers account just got 'paused' as he wouldn't supply the docs. Think he got triggered because of 2 substantial deposits in one day. I only use em for the forum as they won't remove the premium charge which I got from my in running days and I just wanna use bsp these days. Complete sh1tshow run my muppets.

Can't imagine how I would have got started on here in the first place without making "substantial deposits".  And there have been times since then when I've needed to make 4 figure deposits due to losing runs, or to lay a horse in the Grand National Ante Post market (which didn't run any way).
All this has made me paranoid about losing/depositing.  Its not the prospect of losing money (which is mine to lose anyhow) that bothers me, but of being shut out of the thing that gives my life meaning.

The totally pointless nature of these checks shown by the fact that I was able to bet sizeable three figure sums in cash on course at Goodwood on Wednesday without any questions asked.

It never seems to occur to these virtue signalling socialists, that if somebody is determined to gamble, they'll always find an outlet.

Would this be Betfairs duty of care, making sure someone can afford to lose £2.5k per year? Confused

given the heavy handed nature of banning the OP until he produces documentation to prove he can afford to gamble, (not lose) are the betting Industry admitting they have failed their customers previous? This one will surely grow arms and legs going forward.

In my informed opinion demanding unredacted bank statements and wage slips is highly likely to breach article 5(1)(b) of the GDPR.
By:

When: 29 Jul 22 11:52
I would suggest telling them that under the GDPR as published by the ICO they are legally obliged to tell you why they want each item of information, how they intend to process that information, do they intend to use that information for any other purposes, and what information they intend to store (and for how long).

It's all bloody nonsense, they are targeting people who are clearly not problem gamblers like S. S. Is it just a random check? I ask because apart from toteplus ( just I.D. and a letter showing my address), nobody has bothered me yet. Without giving too much away my stakes are not on the small side and £100 quid monthly deposit would be adiós from me.

To tell the truth it's all a little bit frightening.

I know it's going to happen to me one day, after 20+ years of unblemished minor trading and betting on here.

Haven't bought a lottery ticket, gone to a casino, played on a fruit machine or any other online gambling formats (poker, etc.) for over 10 years.
Only been in a bookies to quickly check results or watch big races live.

Yet I know I could blow absolute fortunes on the above pastimes unhindered by the law.

Yet when the Betfair Checks day comes, I may have to think hard about proceeding.
