Rudiger is out of contract at the end of the season and was always leaving. Thus, he didn't hand in a transfer request. Same with Christensen. They were talking with foreign clubs since January, before the sanctions. If Chelsea valued either of them they should have tied them down before their final year, esp after they won the CL. Rudiger wasn't considered irreplaceable until Tuchel came along. Christensen has never been so considered.

The reported £4.25bn seems a ridiculous price and means that pumping £1.5bn in would have been a worthy investment (if it wasn't for the sanctions and because it was largely well-spent - contrast with Everton whose owner has pumped money in at a similar rate). Interesting to see where the money goes.
