Abramovich's assets in the UK have been seized. Chelsea can't be sold but can play games, can't sell tickets!

Dan Roan

BBC Sports editor

More on this from BBC Sports Editor Dan Roan.

Assets seized includes Chelsea FC.

Premier League was informed 15 minutes before it was announced.

The Government are putting in place a licence to ensure the club can fulfil its fixtures, staff and players can be paid, and as a significant cultural asset that it can continue.

This is about Roman Abramovich not being able to make any money or benefit from Chelsea FC.

Season ticket holders can still attend games they have tickets for but club can not now sell any more tickets that haven’t been sold already

The merchandise shop will be closed.

So presumably they can't sell season tickets for next season.

What about their TV income?
By:

Big issue is what happens in the summer. Will they be allowed to sell players or buy them (could be seen as a way of transferring cash to another party - £100M for Michael Keane, nice!). Also no ticket sales at all. Then there's what happens to TV and advertising revenue.

Feels like any means of generating income has been blocked. Assuming Roman hasn't left a couple of hundred million as reserves Chelsea could just run out of money by the end of the year.

Poetic. As a Newcastle fan, I see this coming down the road for that club too.

Why should funds from the sale of Chelsea go to the Ukraine?

Any funds should go to the UK Exchequer

Agree 100% PP

It will have to go into some form of Trust run by people who never had any dealings with RA. That's how Real Madrid and Barca work.

Palace have got Connor Gallagher on loan til the end of the season and he's on s 5 year contract with Chelsea. I wonder what will happen there? It would be great to hang on to him for much longer I must say.

Spot on. The way that Abramovich accumulated his wealth initially was criminal. But he was wise enough not to get involved in the aluminium wars. That was a whole different ball game.

Chelsea should be in administration today.

People's jobs are at risk so the government should get its act together pdq.

Chelsea is a viable business.

Once Administrators are in charge RA can not benefit from their income so there is no reason things can't go back to normal.

I agree with PP. When the UK liquifies any Oligarch assets the money should be held in trust for the benefit of the first freely elected Russian government.
