England haven't had much creativity since Gazza when they got to 2 SFs and lost both on pens to the Germans.
It is more the draws than anything else that has got them to 2 more SFs under Southgate, but you can only beat what's in front of you. A lot of people getting carried away and underestimating Denmark, including the market. Tonight's game was the same performance with little creativity in midfield against a team who couldn't defend aerial balls. Even at with an early 1 goal lead and second half with a 2 goal lead England didn't create to much apart from set-pieces. He didn't really let the shackles off the players at all or play differently when ahead. He switched to a 4-4-2 for the final 15 mins of the first half because Ukraine were actually outplaying England and getting into goalscoring positions. He reverted at half time, but you can see that he's still more concerned about the opposition even when ahead. Denmark are nothing like Ukraine. They look a lot more solid at the back with 2 dominant centre-halves and are able to defend set-pieces. They are also one of the best attacking teams left and are potent in attack and shoot a lot. From what we've seen tonight, Southgate will still play cagey with a 1 goal lead and invite teams onto him. England's defence wasn't really troubled tonight but there were still mistakes from Walker and Pickford that could have been costly. The way Southgate plays you need a really poor team to lose by more than 2 to this England side and we got that tonight. It doesn't seem likely to me that England will be comfortable against Denmark even with a 1 goal lead and not likely either that they'll get a 2 goal lead until late perhaps. I don't think the prices reflect that. |

So we agree on the easy group great. Phew! So of all the teams in the last 16 England get Germany who are obviously considered a good team (not the same old Germany as usual but decent) then the mighty Ukraine and now the mighty Denmark! Come on man ffs. |
By:
Ukraine were almost as bad defending aerial balls tonight as Panama in the World Cup
By:
Oh fcuk off will you's lucky lucky lucky, but never unlucky when we lose, ffs.
By:
Ukraine tonight are about as bad a team as you will ever see in a quarter final

That's what I'm saying. England very difficult to beat but offer little themselves. I think Denmark will give them a game and hopefully beat them but HONESTLY? (you lot really should try HONESTY sometime it's so much better than lying) you'd have to fancy England of the two specially at home. |
By:
Had Scotland topped the easy group
they would have had same route to final. |
By:
you're also playing nearly all your matches at home
that shouldn't have been allowed you should have had to play round of 16 and semi final somewhere elese |
By:
Having drawn with England you
only had to beat 2 poor teams by more than England did. |
By:
Ukraine used to provide the Soviet Union with their first 11. We couldn't beat them in 2012 or 2011 , both games a draw in the World Cup Qualifiers and we lost to them in the 2012 euros........................but tonight..it was an easy draw.,....

they were the weakest team in the last 8
By:
you'll be playing the weakest team in the last 4 as well
By:
No they weren't, England were surely?
By:
Denmark lol
at this stage you'd expect to be playing a top nation |

That's the difference though. I'm admitting, being TOTALLY HONEST and saying my team Scotland are very poor and if they had have got out of the group in top spot they'd have gone straight out after. |

It's coming home. But unfortunately to Rome.

By:
Guiseppe, it might have escaped your attention but Denmark are previous holders of this title and therefore should be favourites against a nation who have never even reached the final before?
By:
Denmark were about 100-1 to win the tournament
at this level they're minnows |

Southgate is a Vodoo master. Controls the draw with his art of black magic. If England would have fallen in the other half would have been out by now. He fo0ked their best chance up when he was gifted a world cup semi against the mighty nation of Croatia, comparable to Wales in size and they went out. Good chance the might of the 5 million Danes will ko them as well tbh.
Ukraine Sweeden Colombia on pens and home match with Germany their knock out stage route to 2 major semis is 1 ell of a easy ride that wont keep happening. |

Sonts, said something the other night which I think is true, with England winning against these poor teams, the momentum will be with them and the English nation behind them,,they are dangerous team to play. But having said that 9 times out of 10 Italy will be beat them, Wembley or not.
By:
I think Scotland are miles better
than they were 4 years ago. Confidence can bring through players, and those with dual qualifications suddenly welcome a phone call from Glasgow. England have at least 5 players who are qualified to play for Ireland.. Scotland (late 70s,early 80s)showed they could compete, but like England back in the day were far too naive, and blew out early. |
By:
Surely as previous holders they have more street cred than little old useless, luck with the draw, Engerland who have never even reached the final before?
By:
Deplasterer, England v Italy, 27 games, 8 won, 8 losy and 11 drawn, where do you get this '9 times out of 10 Italy will be beat them, Wembley or not' from???

Have to say I was pleasently surprised with Scotland they have improved a tiny bit. Unfortunately it means they've gone from about a 4/10 team to maybe a 5/10 at a push but hey ho it's progress. bobweenit Spot on see what I mean. Look at the draw they've had over the last two major tournaments. Ridiculous. |

If Scotland had Croatia first and Czech rep last it would have been better for game plans. That's luck of draw though, and not really foreseeable. Got to qually for world cup now And if there's another nations league do well in that. Gey your ranking up, and avoid the top teams by seeding pot. |

Only jesting Tiger, good luck on weds, I have a few quid on the mafia @8s.
