With hindsight I guess result totally predictable, but the performance did highlight certain problems.
Sanchez is lost without Toby and Jan. Trippier has bee rubbish since coming back from WC. Doubt if Skipp will be seen anymore this season as there are no more cup games. Nkoudou will be gone. Lame Ella might, I repeat might be alright as a sub, but that's about all. LLorente needs aerial service. One bright spot is that Foyth imho is better than Sanchez and will become a fixture. |

The only thing that came close to giving me any kind of warm glow about that League Cup was the fact that we beat Chelsea in the final.
It's obvious to anybody with half a brain that the achievement of finishing in the top three in the League three years in a row with a team that cost - and is paid peanuts - dwarfs winning a competition which nobody cares about. |

Ok , thanks to sofa and Jed for that clarification . Obviously I'll never experience the feeling of finishing 3rd in the Premier League cos unfortunately I support a right 'kin shower , but I'll never forget the sheer exhilaration of seeing my lot lift the FA Cup Wembley on a couple of occasions , yet I can only recall a mild sense of satisfaction when we finished 3rd in the old First Division back in '86 .

Nothing I have read before expressed my feelings about the running of our club by ENIC like this:

Boss Mauricio Pochettino explained why Spurs can progress once they move into their new stadium.

We see something and we want it straight away. It is about working hard and developing the project. "It is easy to destroy, it is so difficult to build. It has taken 18 years to build the new stadium. White Hart Lane was destroyed in one day. "We are working hard to try and deliver. We need to have faith. The moment when we win will arrive. At the moment we are trying. It is tough to win. We are focused on many things." Asked if that view was shard by chairman Daniel Levy, Mauricio Pochettino added: "If you are at Real Madrid you only think about winning trophies. Tottenham was a completely different challenge, to build the philosophy is tough. "The bigger picture is that we will have one of the best stadiums in the world. If you want to be one of the best teams in the world, you need the best training ground. We have one of them. "When all this is ready, there won’t be an excuse. For different reasons, we are still missing something. We are trying with all our capacity. We are so conscious that we are giving our best to achieve what all the people want. Around about 15 years ago I think Francis was manager but I could be wrong,I said to
my grandson when Levy took over it'll take 5/6 years to sort this mess out. Obviously I was being over ambitious and unrealistic, but Arry Redknapp sparked the revival. when we had 2 points from 8 games. As one who actually attended the glory days, we had no divine right to trade on a history of almost 60 years. I also remember the antiquated toilets, asbestos roof and tin tannoy of another era. Now we have a new training ground of which I was told by a Liverpool parent was unbelievable, and a brand new state of the art stadium the envy of the prem. One more brick in the wall to be secured and I'm talking figuratively, and that's the team. Rome wasn't built in a day, the present generation will benefit and look back on this time and say that they didn't know what the fuss was about. |
