I'm used to Everton being involved in final day dramas, not usually from this angle though Grin

Joking apart,  relegation is an awful prospect if your team is a long standing fixture of the top division.
In 1994 when Everton had to beat Wimbledon to stay up i travelled up from Kent on the day of the match and was a bundle of nerves, just got to the ground at 2 minutes to kick off and i was hardly in my seat when we went one down to a daft penalty followed swiftly by a comical Gary Ablett own goal. Two down and little hope, i have never felt so low at a game in my life.  Fast forward to ten to five and the Toffees had come back to win 3-2 and i then felt the happiest i have ever been at a game.
As Sir Alex once said - football, bloody hell !

Let us hope for no controversy today and may the most deserving team stay up.

Leeds hardly played out of their skin against Spurs, they had very few chances until a quarter of an hour from time when Tel gave away a silly penalty.
After that they did come closer to scoring than the home side but Spurs had been in control up until that point and should have been further ahead..

You're glad? Plain

uptheirons - something of a contradiction Wink

Looks like Senesi has dumped Bournemouth for Spurs. Another Argy; hopefully more committed than the one that's going... soon with any luck.

Need to keep Gray imo. He was thrown in at the deep end and didn't let himself down. Bit of a blip midway through the season, but he came to life a bit before being dropped to the bench. I see a future for him at Spurs if he is used wisely and allowed to develop as he should have been.

Kinsky could be #1 next season. When we bought him he was touted as a future star. The forced cover looks like it brought him out of his shell, with some fines saves during the run-in. Vicario is already second to him now in my book.

van de Ven is a bit of a mystery. It certainly looked like he wanted out, but if the hierarchy invest well, who knows? Needs to improve his attitude.

Tel will probably stay, but he needs to improve. Not had a great season and was one of the reasons I invested in our relegation, but he could become useful and I would keep him for at least one more season to see if he can push on from here.

Palhinha has the option of staying for €30m (£25m approx.). At age 31 that may be a bit rich, but if Spurs can negotiate that price, he may be a solid squad addition. He certainly deserves to stay but his age is bit of a stumbling block for me. 28 and I'd bite off BM's hand.

Gallagher is going nowhere and he has been a bit of a surprise package after an awful start. Certainly improved with every game and especially when it was needed most. At 26 he should have more in the tank. Not happy after a few games, but he's turned my head around since. Fair play to him.

Bentancur is the reason we're playing PL football next season. Between him and De Zerbi they somehow managed to turn it around. An amazing recovery. I hope he stays because he is at the right age (29) to really settle Spurs down and start playing some clever football.

I'm happy with Maddison (obviously), Porro, Spence, Kudus, Udogie, Simons and Kulusevski, with Mikey Moore who may still have a part to play in the not-too-distant future. The rest I'm not overly fussed about.

Unless I've inadvertently missed someone out, these are the squad players I'd like to build upon.

Not really keen on de Zerbi. It was the players who finally realised that their futures were on the line if they lost again. Who would want to buy a player from a relegated Club? what reallly interested me was the number of on the bench Spurs players, notably Maddison, who were standing and directing the players in the hope of getting them motivated. They obviously didn't trust de Zerbi to do it.
Report sageform May 25, 2026 11:54 AM BST
Interesting Aspro. Can't they afford anyone better than Kolo Muani? Buy him a plane ticket tomorrow before they change their mind.
Report Aspro May 25, 2026 12:07 PM BST
I'm with Emit here on De Zerbi. We picked up our game and aside from Kolo, his decisions were sound, considering what he had to play with. I especially liked his decision to play Porro and Spence down the right and also liked his decision to put an unfit Maddison on the bench for motivation. We played some nice stuff at times and we didn't sit back, looking scared and helpless, we went for it. I didn't particularly want him, but he did steady the ship, from my perspective. Worth a shot me thinks.

I'm totally with you on Kolo; seems strange they think he can suddenly be a star in Turkey. If he plays like he did at Spurs they will roast him. Even if they back out, he has to go. I don't know any Spurs' fans that want him to stay.

I strongly disagree with this. De Zerbi is the main reason that Spurs are still in the Premier League. It most most likely De Zerbi that  made the players finally realise that their futures were on the line.

Yeah, they looked completely doomed under Tudor and hadn't won a game in four months. Frank should've been fired months earlier than he actually was (I was calling for his head in October/November).Crazy   Probably would've been in this mess too if Ange had stayed on for season 3. He normalised losing almost every league game they played when he went all in on winning the Europa. So De Zerbi can take almost all of the credit for Spurs staying up, in my opinion.

Call me cynical, but I'm all but convinced that Vicario's actions during the Everton match was solely to curry favour with De Zerbi. I believe there is no interest in him from outside so he's going out of his way to show his support for the team in the hope he is not released, or benched. Cringeworthy if true.
Report Aspro May 26, 2026 8:00 AM BST
DD, I took a punt on Spurs going down at 36, in January. It was VERY clear to me that we were in trouble and the price was too generous to ignore. My instincts were proved right as we (at one point) went odds on before what I still believe was an amazing recovery, aided by an Aston Villa gift. It was one of the best wrong prices I saw all season.

The only thing that could have saved us was if the club acted as they should have in the window. True to form, they didn't and have been exposed for it.

Now they have no choice and I expect reinforcements that will push us up to the top ten again. After this season, I'll take that if they continue to support the team thereafter.

Robert Kraft (New England Patriots) was the potential buyer. He really turned NEP around and what he could have done with Spurs would have made a huge difference. Bad timing.
