Sat with the BHA fans today. We stole a point. They murdered us. Could have been another 5.
Haller and Anderson injured. Antonio on the bench (why?) and Fornals knackered after half an hour. Rice excellent. Lanzini back to his best. Pellegrini yet again baffling in his selection and substitutes. Dan Burn hugely impressive for Brighton. A centre back they bought from Wigan. He can really play. |

Out of the bottom 3 tho . Let's try and be positive

I agree with Injera's assessment of our performance but once again our extremely vulnerable defence was there for all to see. By the way how on earth can our fans keep celebrating VAR decisions although it wasn't as bad as last week with supporters jumping up and down because we were only 0-2 down

For me, and I’m sure there are many who will disagree with me, it’s a sad endictment of where we are that, before kick off, I’d have been delighted with a point against Brighton.
The fact that we probably should’ve lost just reinforces my belief that we haven’t really progressed and that we’re still a team with a bit of a soft underbelly who will, yet again, be more likely to be fighting to avoid being in the bottom 3 rather than challenging for top 6 (which was the objective/promise when moving to the new stadium).. Apologies for my negativity, but following them for well over 50 years has obviously left it’s mark on me! |

By:
I notice that Diangana in his first game for WBA came on as sub at half time and scored both their goals in a 6 minute spell to win the match!

Didn't know that sparrow. What a shame we didn't give him more opportunity.
BHA played 3 giant centre backs. Our manager plays Hernandez up against them. On his own... Not one shot on goal in the first half. Every Fab goal kick came back at us. Yarmelenko would give us height on the wing and a target at the far post. Antonio a physical presence up front. Why didn't they start? Fornals will take months to get up to speed. The biggest concern is the manager. He takes no account of the opposition. He's an older gentleman but he's very naive. As for the VAR celebrations, it's just something to sing and laugh about. Black humour. |

Defending we do poor time after time
Saw we where 2/1 befor team sheet went out Gave that up straight away |
|
By:
Injera, I like a little black humour now and again such as our fans doing the conga at Reading many years ago whilst 0-6 down but the VAR thing seems just silly if not a little embarrassing.

I'm sure by September it will have lost its appeal.
Let's face it we don't have much to cheer us do we! |
|
By:
Hope I:m wrong but far from convinced that Wilshere is gonna have much impact for us. Seems totaaly off the pace , things just happening too quick for him . Seemed OK pre-season when everyone was playing at 75% capacity with half hearted tackles , but his mind and body no longer seem to hack it in the premiership

Next up Watford away. I hope we get a strong ref. otherwise the hornet goons will take it in turn to give lanzini a kicking.
Our options in centre midf are shocking. Who will partner Rice? Snodgrass? Wilshire? Sanchez? Non fill me with confidence I'm not even that bullish about Noble if truth be told. Why Pellegrini has neglected this area is a mystery to me. Obiang and fernandes sold and not replaced. BTTS |
|
By:
Obiang and Fernandes should not have been sold.
|
|
By:
I think selling them was the right decision. What troubles me is Pellegrini's spending patterns. £80m+ spent on attacking midfs. Nothing spent on full backs and very little spent on central midfs. Wilshire came on a free and Sanchez was a last minute panic buy at £4m
The Brighton fans are absolutely slaughtering Wilshire on their forums. If Pellegrini thinks Wilshire is the answer it could cost him his job. |
|
By:
People like to jump on Wilshire but he's an easy target and you got it right with his other buys as to the problems we're having. Obiang and Fernandes might not have been first choices but were good squad members and far more reliable than some of the others we have. It has to be said that so far Pellegrini has been a disappointment considering the amount of money he has spent which has been far more than any of his predecessors.

Wilshere can play in a midfield 3 but not a 2. The problem MP has created is that he has about 4 ball players who are hopeless at tracking back:
Wilshere, Fornals, Anderson and Lanzini. Add to those, Yarma, Antonio and the strikers and you can see how unprotected we become. To spend all that dosh and end up playing Snodgrass alongside Rice (second half) is incredible. Snod can't play there. He has to stay wide. |

Good result. More chaotic defending but dull it certainly isn't.
Neither Anderson nor Yarmalenko fancy protecting their full backs. The space is incredible at times. But going forward we'll create loads of chances. Antonio changed things again. Had a great impact. |
|
By:
Can't see us being last on MOTD much that's for sure.
Yama and Wilshire were supposed to be upgrades for Antonio and Noble they're certainly more naturally talented but Noble and Antonio are more effective I think. Healthy competition for places. Watford, Norwich are teams like us good going forward but dodgy defences. I suspect our superior fire power will decide such matches. Prediction for Saturday BTTS and Overs. COYI |

The win over Watford posed as many questions as answers in my view. One thing for sure is that Noble and Antonio are virtually indispensable at the moment and maybe Pellegrini might learn that eventually. I can't forget Watford's equaliser on the counter with Noble still screaming at players to get back from their previous attack. They were just strolling back but Tony Gale picked it up straightaway.

I can't help thinking we've got Anelka up front
![]() |
|
By:
Despite my pessimism I thought that was a great result Saturday (although Watford missed a golden opportunity to go ahead when we were level at 1-1 which may have changed everything).
I just hope that Pellegrini doesn’t rest too many players for tonight’s match as I’d like us to have a real go at a Cup run. Sky, obviously, can sniff an upset so I hope that we don’t play into their hands! |

Newport should be 1 nil up. Only the keeper to beat from 6 yards.
|
|
By:
Disagree Slippy - Newport should be TWO up!
Standard stuff from West Ham - lack of urgency, consistently giving the ball away, and that uncanny ability for the defence to look shocking no matter who the opposition are.. |

3-4 months...
Had a massive impact at Brighton and Watford. He's not built like a footballer. Carries way too much weight/muscle. He's like a heavyweight boxer. Clearly something very wrong to pull a hammy on a warm night. |

Probably insufficient warm up

From the Standard......
West Ham are waiting anxiously for news of the damage to Michail Antonio’s hamstring after the forward hobbled off during the 2-0 League Cup win over Newport County. Antonio, who has struggled with hamstring problems throughout his time in east London, lasted just eight minutes at Rodney Parade and will be unavailable until at least mid-September. |

To me westham come across
As chips with everything club They auto make him run rd the pitch 3-4 times Like post befor he’s huge needs diffident program imo |

Didn’t think it possible that we’d be on 7pts after 4 games and lying 5th in the table! (anyone else got a nosebleed?)
Hope they continue with results like this and, if so, I’ll be more than happy to tuck into an extra large slice of humble pie... |

Aladdin, very early days yet and I for one will not be getting excited by wins against Norwich and Brighton plus a point at Brighton.

Whoops, Norwich and Watford plus a point against Brighton.

|
By:
Sparrow, you’d struggle to find a bigger pessimist than me so, believe me, I’m not getting too excited. But that’s two Saturday’s in succession where I’ll be able to watch MOTD without throwing something at the telly! - and that doesn’t happen too many times for us does it?!!
Good luck if you’re playing at Crayford tonight. I’ll be giving it a miss and will be watching the boxing.. |
|
By:
Aladdin - nose bleed time indeed! Should have been 5.
Not since Leicester's season has the top 6 been this wide open. Be a stain on the 'rest' if noone breaks into it. The usual suspects look unconvincing. |

West Ham have cashed in on Javier Hernandez by letting the striker join Sevilla in a deal worth up to £8m.
The Mexico international had just 10 months remaining on his contract and handed in a transfer request last week. West Ham will reportedly bank up to £8million, for a player signed for twice that two years ago, of which £1m is dependent on performances. Standard Sport |

Early doors he would do the crossed iron whenever he scored. It made me smile. But he hasn't seemed fully committed for a long time.
All 4 strikers from last season have now gone. It leaves us short of numbers but I think we are better off without them. Bad attitudes and arrogance has no place in the club Pellegrini is building. COYI |
