Nowadays i dont care about money spent really, obviously you approve if club operates well in market, something we havent always done, cannot fault this window under Klopp imo, just cannot fault it.
Best signing the keeper, lost count of arguments had on here 're our situation there, after a settling period I think we have a real world class keeper now, world class, young dominant and a leader. Can't fault Keita who looks superb or Fabinho and Xherdan who both add different things. You expect to add proven top level players,as yet I don't see ANY added. Or any sign there on way.. We also benefited from a huge deal coming in with Coutinho which lessens impact of spend hugely PTB. Also his signings are with an eye for the future, our entire spine now young hungry and signed up for 4,5 years. Allison,VVD,Lovren,Taa, Robbo,Keita,Fabinho,Salah,Firmino. Look out boys... ![]() ![]() |

It’s all about how you evaluate last season in numbers it was a big move in the right direction goals points league position
Evaluating it at face value was it a true reflection did u under perform or over perform have u improved or stood still in pre season also have the opposition A long way behind the champions progressed out cl group stages reached a final I’d say over all that was about right for the level the team played at Won some important games at the right times history tells you this manager doesn’t get better the longer he stays and he doesn’t stay long so I’m sure both he and the club will be planning exit strategies |
By:
Agree with most of that. You just need to win a trophy now

It’s possible RP but it was only a few months ago that Mourinho signed an extension to his current contract until 2020 with the option of another year.
Of course that goes out of the window, along with the toys, if Mourinho feels he’s not been backed by Ed. I just want to hear Mourinho say he’s got all the players he asked for so he has no excuse for the season ahead. |
By:
Wouldn't swap last season for yours pal, but I wouldn't open my curtains to watch your lot out on my lawn, and will get worse. Your trophies won under him mask the issues you have, lots of them, including squad unhappiness.
Turgid dire rubbish at times. Struggle for top 4 imo.... |
By:
Looking from outside right now he can’t be too happy unless the deals are bieng worked on I think if u got perisic willian that would be two big improvements not sure if ur in for hem or not
It’s hard to tell cos of all the ronaldo griesman neymar bale stuff that u get linked with |
By:
i think if we get our full squad back we can be competitive whether that will be enough or enable us close the gap on the oil rig is doubtful , i think Jose would be wise to not speak so much and concentrate on the teams performance , this can be difficult because the press want to hear him and he makes good copy for the headlines

Good opening tour game against a team on their 4th and final pre season game. Great to see Bailly back, though he and Smalling probably at fault for their goal, allowing attacker space between them for free header (Super cross though to find him) midfield of McTominay/Periera/Herrera did well, Chong impressive when he came on. Martial flattered to deceive but sharpness missing in his first game, did nothing to convince me he's a centre forward. Sanchez getting out there will help. Grant and Pereira both looked very competent in nets. All in all a good starter to remove cobwebs and we were actually the stronger team final 15 mins.
By:
Good summary DeSS. I didn’t watch it, how did Shaw play? Big chance for him to impress on the tour and force his way in if he wants to stay.
Shame Martial didn’t have a good game. He needs to man up, stop sulking and prove he’s as good as he and his agent think. I’m talking on a regular basis, not in patches. A couple of years ago you’d have had him ahead of Mbappe in terms of development. He’s nowhere near him now. |
By:
Shaw was okay, tried very hard to link up in attack but the young lad up front on the left was imo was a bit raw and didn't offer a lot. Hope thats not doing him a disservice. Shaw was caught out of position a couple of times but I think that was due to over enthusiasm to help up front. I'd like to see Martial left wing and Sanchez centre forward next game if he gets out there. Martial had plenty of ball and a couple of chances but looked "in need of the run" to hone his touch and finishing. Not a CF for me
Greenwood didn't get much ball for the short time he was on but looks quick and I think as he grows he could be a handful. I look forward to the day Chong and Fellaini play together for frizziest hair debate. IT CANNOT POSSIBLY HELP A PLAYERS VISION and I can only assume they forgot to pack the hair bands (lol). |
By:
I forgot felliani had re signed makes the window seem worse
By:
Cheers DeSS. The Fellaini hair accentuates everything he does which is why all his mistakes stand out. The same will happen to Chong but hopefully it will be his good play that stands out.
Sanchez should be with the squad very soon, if he hasn't already got there |

Thinking about Leicester game, got to expect Vardy will be missing for them and Mahrez gone so our missing players from that first match is an easier pill to swallow. I'd defo be happy with this mornings starting defence and midfield; its up front thats the worry. Who is gonna score for us? Sanchez needs to provide some encouragement with a goal or two in next few games methinks.....

duffy were you happy with our style of play early last season when we were hitting teams for 4? If so, do you think Mourinho consciously changed the style and why would he have done that? I don't know the answer so interested in how you saw it
By:
Mourinho gradually drifted out Rashford, Mkhitaryan, Martial (who was mainly getting used as a sub anyway, but an effective one) from those early season teams, and these players gradually had their confidence destroyed by Mourinho. Same thing happened to Pogba after early season promise too. By the end of the season we were playing with Lingard who is only ok, but not really that creative and Sanchez who let's be honest has been awful for Utd so far.
The warning signs were there pretty early though anyway. The first time I remembered seeing we weren't really as good as our results were suggesting was that game vs Southampton in early season where we won 1-0, but were hanging on desperately for pretty much the entire second half. Unsurprisingly soon after that our results fell off a cliff, and Mourinho lost confidence with the players and started the blame game pretty soon after. |
By:
Re: transfers it's hard to know what's going on atm. This has been the quietest in the rumour mill with regards to Utd since Fergie left (Moyes actually did less in his first window but the rumour mill was running wild). Mourinho's words hardly filled with confidence that lots of signings are coming too. His words suggested 0-1 more signings, which simply isn't enough. I find it hard to believe Mourinho can think it's enough too, he spent the second half of last season moaning about needing more money, and has now spent very little in the next window. Hard to know if it was a message to the board or what, but there isn't much time left now with this whole window shutting before the season starts, it does feel like we will make 1 signing max from here. Worryingly though the links are with CB's where full back is where we are in even more dire need.

Didn't realise how big a Mourinho fan you were n88
![]() Will be only me, dolph and tick left on here supporting Mourinho soon. Oh and the scousers too.......allegedly |

By:
The other thing is this whole Valencia captain annoys me too. To me he's just not captain material, by all reports quiet and not that comfortable speaking English, he doesn't strike you as someone he will get stuck into others or say anything at all, more the quiet guy who sits in the corner of the dressing room saying nothing. You never see him get involved with the referee on the pitch either, just find it amazing he's our captain. On top of that he should absolutely be one of the players for the chopping block anyway.
By:
Can't blame Mourinho for the lack of signings mate. He's as desperate as us to bring somebody in. If the board wanted shot of Mourinho this would be the way to do it (p1ss him off)
By:
Agree re Valencia. If Pogba issues were resolved I would make him the captain. i think it would feed his ego and maybe make him take his responsibilities a bit more seriously
By:
There's just nothing about Valencia that says captain. I mean he doesn't even do media interviews as he's not comfortable speaking English. Have Utd ever had a captain who wouldn't do media interviews? I would have thought that's pretty much part of the job to be the front to the media at times.
By:
Agree with you there Ptb. Make Pogba captain.
Astonished me Valencia still in team passing sideways never mind skip of Man Utd... Our skip may have issues too, ie will he get in team, I'd give straight to VVD now... |
By:
I'm not a big fan of wingers turned full backs either and we've got two in Valencia nd Young. I think they've both done well in patches but if we are to challenge the very best then we need two top full backs. Must admit I like that kid at your spot jed ( Robertson)
By:
Can only improve...And pretty good the now. Still not the best Scottish full back strangely.
Tierney all day long for me. Our right back become player with time too I feel. ![]() ![]() |
By:
You must start with Shaw n Darmian, surely.
By:
Darmian is supposed to be leaving jed, just haggling over the price.
Shaw is a total mystery, his weight has been up and down like a yoyo which hasn't endeared him to either the manager or most fans. All kinds of rumours about his "fragile" private life and his attitude in training and Mourinho has indicated in a brutal way how Shaw isn't mentally right when he plays at times. Remember when he told the media he had to tell Shaw when to make runs and about his position. That can't be helping the lad but he isn't helping himself either. His brother called Mourinho a cu** on twitter which hasn't done Luke any favours. Its all a shame as he could be a really good player but since he broke his leg he hasn't been anything more than average when he's played. Big chance to impress pre season if he wants to play regularly. Saw him a few weeks ago and he looked like he'd been working on his fitness so fingers crossed. |

Pete,
For me United's best performance last season and one which displayed what we all really want to see was the first game of the season against West Ham where United looked like scoring with every break, there was pace all over the pitch that day, the other comfortable wins were a bit flattering as quite often United were struggling to create chances until late on where finally the other side tired. Mourinho's style was always the same, an attempt at a slow grind, however as the season progressed, sides didn't capitulate as some did early doors and the lack of pace and creativity was shown up. As we are at the start of the season I will make clear what I think and before people come on and state that we're moaning because we're losing and we haven't got a god given right blah blah blah. I couldn't care less if United win the league by 20 points, the Champions league FA cup and the local raffle down the village hall, if all those things are achieved by a boring grinding mind numbing style of play then Mourinho should be out. At United you endeavour to win by playing attractive exciting football, win or lose and if you can't do that then move over and let someone else have a go. Jose Mourinho is the antithesis of what a Manchester United manager should be, he is destructive in many ways. Who next? someone who plays the game how we want to see it played. Incidentally, giving the captaincy to a rampant ego wouldn't be the way to go IMO, Pogba and France were nothing special in an overall shocking World Cup. |

man utd asked about willian they were quoted 90 million nothing since

By:
I understand what you are saying duffy but Mourinho isn't going to change his style to fit that criteria. His way is that of attrition and United's board knew that when they appointed him so its difficult to be hard on him for that alone. Plenty of other stuff to criticise him though.
My position is that we've appointed him and he's doing what he thinks works best for him. All his success has been achieved doing it his way and we appointed him knowing that so why would he think he needs to change? Give him the players he wants and see what happens. Even the attritional style can be exciting if only he took measured risks at times. In the long run I have no idea who we could appoint that could emulate Sir Matt and SAF, two managers in the history who have managed to play the football you describe and have continued success. Every club would love to find another SAF |
By:
Thanks doc, what did Barca offer?
By:
I suppose in the past though his sides not only were solid and attritional but, and in particular the Chelsea teams, they bullied sides into submission that broke them down and opened them up. At the start of last season it was pointed out just how physically imposing the United side was, however they weren't able to bully sides as it turned out.

peter a lot less the reason for the quote i was told its because you valued martial more than willian lol
By:
If martial had the energy willian has he would be one hell of a a player.
By:
Duffy, yes but you are saying it wouldn’t matter if Mourinho got United playing like Cheksea did the first around when he was there?
I imagine that is what he’s trying to create at United but in your eyes, and many others, it wouldn’t matter and you still want him out. That’s fine, all I’m saying is that we all knew this was how he’d go about the job when he was appointed. He’s already won two trophies and in his eyes he’s trying to do what he was brought here for. Sort out a team that’s challenging for all the top trophies. He’s still a good way off that atm Personally I think he has to win the league to be deemed successful. |
By:
Cheers doc. Presume you mean as part of a swap deal? Ie Martial for Willian?
Is that the only way Chelsea would let Willian go unless Ed pays over the odds? |
By:
Frustrating isn’t he greeny? Sadly Martial himself doesn’t seem to get it.
Could be a top top player |
By:
Peter i wouldnt say "you hurt me beyond belief " but i will admit to feeling let down by you.
The snidey way you tried to belittle my opinion on the Doc being a better manager for us than Mourhino at a time i wasnt logged in showed you up for what you are. Your comment deriding the above even followed with ffs to underline how much contempt you felt for that opinion. This probably only a few weeks after i spent a few hours defending you in your absence against pushkin when he first appeared and before we realised he was a few shillings short of a pound. You may turn out to be right of course but at the moment its evens each of two when you take in to account the buying capacity of both . |
By:
Yes I took the p1ss but snidey? I Not sure anybody would think I’m the sort to hide from confrontation and wait for you to be logged off?
How is it snidey when somebody takes the p1ss out of you openly? You thought Tommy Doc and Ron Atkinson were better United managers than Mourinho and I expressed surprise and made a p1sstake comment. For some strange reason you took great exception to that. I have to say I thought you had much thicker skin than that. I can’t even remember what I said but I know I didn’t hide the fact that I thought it was a ridiculous assertion. (My opinion) At the time you’d changed your mind about Mourinho and was using everything you could think of to criticise him, whilst saying you still supported him, and I took your comment to be misjudged and one you probably didn’t believe yourself. The fact even today you say it’s “evens the two” is baffling? Tommy Doc and Big Ron might have been more popular (even by me, I loved the Doc) but love or hate Mourinho he’s on a different level to them surely? I’m not really sure why you are still carrying this on mate? We’ve all had the p1ss taken out of us at some stage. If it’s troubling you that much and you want to get it off your chest send me a private message. For weeks you’ve been throwing barbed comments and I’ve ignored them as I knew you were p1ssed. Call me a fat tw@t, ignore me, take the p1ss out of me but get it out of your system. Forums are meant to be about opinions and p1sstaking mate. I’ve no doubt you, duffy, kenny, greeny and others will say “I told you so” if Mourinho walks or messes up. That’s how it should be. |
