I think it matters in as much as Mourinho is going into this season under pressure. To that end momentum and positive performances are invaluable, that tonight was a shocker simple as that.

Mover, Ronaldo was desperate to come back to United but Mourinho didn’t want it.

When Ronaldo asked why he chose Juventus he said it was because they were the only club to make an offer.

I would have thought you’d know all about players turning a club down. How many for City now?

Mind you it gives us all a chance to get closer

anx,

I did watch it, Martial was garbage, his body language is awful but he's obviously shot to bits confidence wise. I'd give a thumbs up to Shaw however as it would be easy for him to go the same way, but he was always busy and endeavouring to get forward and onto the ball whenever possible, he can't leave.

The first 10 minutes they started on the front foot but then just fell into that usual pattern of hoping for something to happen without looking likely to make anything happen, out of the new lads and seeing them only for the first time it was Chong who looked to me like he might have something about him.

Regarding say Chelsea yes they have changed a lot of managers but still had plenty of trophies, so there is no perfect way of doing it , the oil rig are a project funded by enormous amounts of money , they have a big advantage even though they are a relatively small club

Some fair points by Pop n others on Utd's strategy, i know some regular Utd posters on the the thread will vehemently disagree with me [cos we've done it to death on the old thread] but the Glazer takeover in the mid 00's signalled a negative shift in the mindset of the club & the ramifications are still being felt today.

No one can argue their abilty to make money. That's what they do. When & if they decide to sell they will probably make a whole lot more.  What has always been such a blatant floor in their model is their Why. The polarity between the old plc Utd's stunningly successful business model & the Glazernomic one is startingly visible when you consider the families financial position has always been a priority even at the expense of Silverware, so much so the odious Woodward even bragged about it last season.."Playing performance doesn't really have a meaningful impact on what we can do on the commercial side of the business,"

Yes they need Utd to be contending, but the writing was on the wall for everyone too see when they took over & the club went from having 30m in cash in the bank specifically to spend on one top drawer player every season to SAF having the ignominy of giving those cringeworthy 'No value in the market' pressers so they could repay 45m a year in interest on their loans.

Add the criminal neglect of the Youth & Academy setups which were/are the foundation of the club, the fact they've not spent much on the ground [which could do with some work so i'm led to believe] & it's easy to see how they've got to the short term thinking position they're in now with the coaching & playing staff Plain.

Maguire given his wc performances was bound to be linked with lots of clubs

Not sure a centre back is priority could do with some midfielders who can play instead of big statues

Always surprises me the extent that people under estimate the value of the Goalkeeping position RP Crazy. I mean it literally can be the difference between legendary status for a Manager or just another failed snake oil salesman who gambled & lost.

I see your lot have just broken the World record for a keeper. Klopp obviously growing into the job of top flight coaching Cool.

Was a little concerned with the new arrivals comments tho .. "Hopefully I can play a part in the history being created here, win titles and be a part of the project that has been developed here".

Talking about goalkeepers I though Grant looked really good again yesterday. Other than Chong and Pereira the rest looked as if they were involved in a training session. I know it was very hot and its all about fitness but they were just strolling around.

Martial needs to either put some effort in or leave. Petulant display imo. Kid's got a great chance and looks like the whole world owes him a living.

Back in the late 80's as a teenager i had the misfortune to have half a dozen Young Guvnors break in their Gazelle's n Samba's on my head & torso... they literally knocked me into next week Silly.

That would appear nowt to the sheer brutality of a Sergio Ramos elbow... it's a couple of months now & the lad is still struggling Plain.....

If Karius played for United his poor form would be Mourinho's fault

Ting is Pedro... he's always been poor. The bizarre situation of rotating 2 poor keepers coz neither can be trusted, only for the one you finally decide is the lesser of two evils... ends up fooking your chance of glory. Horrendous decision making.

Expensive lesson in there for the media darling.

I'm sure Klopp must have known that both his keepers weren't great but he kept sending out mixed messages. One minute he was extolling their virtues and the next dropping them. Perhaps he was just trying to stick two fingers up at the media and doing the opposite of what they were saying.

That Karius lad nearly cost them the semi final as well well.

Mind you Mourinho is totally the opposite. He doesn't mind telling his players they are sh1t Plain

Said after last's match that only five or so of the squad out there atm would be featuring on a regular basis this season.

Wonderful use of hindsight there Dolph. Karius was excellent the last few months of the season. The stats back it up. All of that has been forgotten because of the mistakes he made in the CL Final. Its pretty harsh to blame Klopp for not having a crystal ball and seeing that he was going to lose the plot in the biggest game of the season.

As for the mistake last night... it looked significantly worse slowed done as it was on that link. But De Gea made worse in the WC. Confirmation bias appearing now.

Karius has made numerous errors mate, many of which haven't been punished.

The new keeper looks like he's got proper character to me. He could be a hugely influential signing. No idea what his goalkeeping skills are like.

Karius would have loved the Spice boys days imo.

De Gea's error in the World Cup was shocking but not sure you can put him and Karius in the same sentence.

Hiya CCM... TBH i'll admit the charges [1st time for everything]. In my defense i can remember some pretty serious debates on 'ere & on the idiot box where Klopps stance on the GK situation was put under the microscope & the general consensous seemed to be he was gambling on your lot being able to overcome their shortcomings with your offensive abilities. The fact disaster struck in the biggest game of the season is not bad luck in any shape or form whatsover. It just isn't.

Hope you're well mate. I don't want to carry on the debate, it's not my style to get involved in the technical aspects of the game ... prefer just to take the p1ss then slink off tbh Grin.

Haha, fair play Dolph.

I think we all know that Klopp knew he wanted an upgrade. But he had earmarked Alisson a year ago and couldn't get him. His approach is to big them up until he can move them on, which I personally think is the right one. Jose's prefers to tell them they are **** in the hope it improves them until he can move them on. Suppose that will work for some players but certainly not all.

Anyway, we've got our man now and hope he is worth waiting for, just like VVD was. AS I said about VVD, if we have to wait a bit to get the players we really want, I'd rather do that than move on to second choices... I cant imagine not having VVD now tbh.

Pete... I go to virtually every game as you know. And I didnt see these 'numerous errors' you are on about.... he was **** when he first played, but from about Feb onwards he was pretty decent for me. Certainly didnt cost us a goal with a soft individual error in that period that I can recall. Every Liverpool fan to a man felt he was worth a prolonged run in the side to see how much he could improve. How do you know unless you give them a chance? De Gea started poorly after all.

Anyway, all a moot point now. Its always going to be a handy little subject for the Klopp knockers to try and put the boot in.

I agree the new lad looks to have a lot about him. Its hard to imagine he wont be an upgrade (although I have read a fair bit about him and apparently he can be prone to a clanger too).

Keita is the one for me this season. This lad is going to be a bit special.

Fair enough CCM, as you say you watch them all the time.

Will watch Keita with interest although I suspect he will spend a fair bit of time on the touchlines if he gets "involved" like he did a few times at his previous club.

You lot finished spending yet?
By:

Yeah he's going to need to sort that out.. although we've needed a player with that bit of a nasty edge for a while imo.

Honestly no idea... have a feeling that was all a bargaining stance from Klopp when he said we are all done. We clearly still want Fekir but aren't going to budge on our best offer. Ball in their court I reckon.

Even though we've spent a fortune, we are still a couple of players short of having a squad capable of beating City over 38 games I fear. The gap from first choice to second choice is still too big in various positions.
