Peter what do you reckon to the likes of Wilian  is he the type of player we need , i know he is Mourinho type of player

Anx, I wouldn’t be too unhappy if Pogba did go although I think Mourinho should sign specialist players for certain players and then play Pogba where we can get the best out of him. Personally I thought he did well in the World Cup but he didn’t set it alight did he?

It’s the drama and the ego about him that bugs me and now he’s a World Cup winner, bloody hell...

Yes I like Willian anx but it’s what Mourinho thinks that’s important. He’s the manager so you have to let him get on with it and sign whoever he thinks he needs. When he’s done that you can work out whether he’s been a success or not when the trophies are handed out.

I agree with others regarding the type of football we need to be playing although I don’t see him changing too much. When we are winning and hitting teams for four like early last season nobody complained about the style. It was still methodical and calculated but when the results aren’t good it accentuates the style and makes it laboured.

Maybe if he got players like Willian or Bale we would be hitting teams on the break and moving the ball around much quicker. That’s what is desperately needed imo.

*specialist players for certain positions* is what I meant in the 10.01 post

Don't buy this for a second. Where are they even going to get the money for him from. A complete non-starter to me.

The lack of signings is surely down to working out who we need when the outgoings are known.

For example Martial’s agent said he wanted Tony to move, we don’t know what’s happening with Pogba either. You would think we’d only let them go once we’d got replacements secured.

It’s all guesswork atm isn’t it?

I'd be amazed if we let go of Pogba now, it would mean another key position needs filling, with 3 weeks until the window shuts. No chance imo and everything out of the club is not for sale too.

I don't want Willian, the key positions for me are all defensive. There's enough attacking talent in the squad if it's given a platform to shine (ie. not super negative stuff like vs Sevilla or whatever). The defence despite the defensive record is bang average, full backs a key position, as we get pretty much the least out of our full backs of any top team. A CB would be nice too, it says it all CB wise that what even is our CB partnership going into the new season? They're all pretty much interchangeable and seem to fall in and out of favour over the season.

I'd assume Mourinho is eyeing up right now a front 6 of Matic, Fred, Pogba, Sanchez, Lukaku, Lingard.

I'm not really Lingard's biggest fan, and to me he's not good enough either, but I'm sure he will get the initial nod (at least after a game or two where it might be messy because of the World Cup).

gary cahill , arnautovich , bale or willian

At least 2 of those probably won't play match day 1 though, but that's the team going forward I imagine.

The thing with Willian is he's just not significantly better than what's already there, you're paying like 60m for barely an improvement, for a 29 year old (30 before season starts), what is the point? Also doubt Chelsea sell anyway given it seems Hazard will leave.

Also not on board with Cahill either, though to me sounds bs, we need to fill those positions with quality, not players not good enough for rivals ffs.

If it was Bale coming in it would be different as that is a significant improvement over what is there, but I don't really see it at this late stage. Major transfers like that don't tend to get done quickly, and there doesn't seem a lot happening on that front. And unless Real Madrid are planning major, major upheaval, I'd be surprised if they let him go after just letting Ronaldo go, if both of them go, they've probably got to spend around 400m on front players lol, seems unlikely to me.

Agree regarding the full backs and he’s brought one player in. Also agree we need a top class CB. Presume Alderweid is still the top target

I’m happy to let Mourinho get on with it, that’s what he’s there for. He’s not too bad a manager is he?

The problems will arise if he wants certain players and Ed can’t deliver and Mourinho starts the season without the squad he wants. It sets that tone of resentment and sulking from Mourinho.

I’m pretty sure there are all sorts of negotiations in the background.

Last year he was happy other than Ed’ failure to land Perisic

Alderweireld seems the only player we're really linked with at all atm, nothing else has any credible rumours behind it, but there has to be more than that.

I'm going to guess Alderweireld won't be ready for start of new season either too.

A wide player like Perisic would be a good addition , decent crosser and can get a goal too , probably have to pay 60m plus for him

Thought Shaw would have left by now tbh. Saw him a couple of weeks ago and he looked much slimmer than he has since he broke his leg.

If only he could sort himself out.

Also will be interesting how the kids get on pre season. Wouldn’t be surprised if one or two of them get regular outings this season.

On the face of it that might not be what people want to hear but I’d rather they played than sign a 30 yr old who’s on the way down and likely to be passed b them in the next year or two.
By:

When: 18 Jul 18 11:13
From memory we wouldn’t pay 48m for Perisic last season anx. Think Ed offered 42m. Surely pride alone would stop him scuttling back there to an extra 12m or whatever.

I don’t it’s a problem buying players who won’t be ready for the start if the season. More important that they are Mourinho’s first choice and players who are much better than we’ve got

We all know that expectation will be high in this 3rd season for Jose. For that reason I find myself incredibly negative for the chances of the young lads coming back, Pereira, Tuanzebe and Fosu-Mensah. Also the new kids on the fringe. And also for Shaw, Martial, and McTominay.

We haven't a clue whats happened with Bailly, we still have Jones who I regard our weakest link when he plays, and still have Young and Valencia, who were once "useful" going forward but have regressed into holding up attacks rather than creating

them, in the main. Are we sure about Lindelof and Rojo? And then theres Smalling, who Jose seems to rate less than Jones Scared

It seems Fellaini is in for a big part to play and who knows whats going to happen re Mata and Herrera. Pogba, Matic, Lukaku, Fred, Sanchez and DDG are probably the only players currently we can regard as certain starters, with Fellaini, Lingard and Rashford the "regular" support.

Unless "Fred" is the second coming, I don't see how we can be optimistic about winning the title, its top 4 struggle for us at best unless things were to change rapidly.

Remains to be seen what Dalot brings to our table but his age and complete lack of experience suggests he isn't going to be thrown in at the deep end this season.

Its not often we get to say this but I think we've got a decent deal re Daley Blind? We really need to be completing some more and soon.
By:

When: 18 Jul 18 14:21
I highly doubt Dalot has been brought into start. Unless he's some sensation somehow under the radar, he's had 6 senior starts in his career, seems very unlikely he will start the season to me. This is a big part of the problem, as full backs we needs players now, not players who might be good in a few years.

Fred has looked decent in the limited time I have seen him (CL), but he's not Messi either, he won't single handedly turn the side into world beaters. Also doesn't look the type of player that you'r normally expect to thrive under Mourinho. Quite a creative player with an eye for a defence cutting pass, but you need runners to makes passes like that, something Utd don't tend to have.
