United pulling out of Mount deal and Arsenal should pull out Havertz to put a spanner in the Chelsea wheel.
Partey is off so I would love to see Rice paired with Caicedo, 24 and 21 respectively. |
|
By:
I guess Arsenal have settled on Lavia. Impressive stats but I haven’t see much of him.

2 in 2 for Smith-Rowe for the U21's
Strange but Havertz might be a good buy for Arsenal. He was quite magnificent and needs a bit of love I might suggest. This is a young team and he is only 24. I do think Arteta should have tried to skin Chelsea particularly on price. Chelsea have to sell and United have pulled out of Mount so Arsenal should do the same with this lad. Mess up Chelsea plans then come back with a ridiculous offer. Arsenal should not be stumping up the money for Chelsea to buy Caicedo! Chelsea under Poch may well be challenging for second place next season along with United. This guy Lavia might be something. Arteta may have knowledge of him from City. |

Given our transfer business in recent windows, it's best not to project too far ahead until deals are officially announced on the Arsenal website. IF Havertz and Rice do arrive, the jury will be out until they start producing the goods on the pitch. (Huge fees, but we have quite a few outgoings to come so will recoup some money). Current thinking is that Rice and Havertz will come in for the outgoing Partey and Xhaka. The lad from Ajax will be a valuable defensive addition if we get him. Being greedy, you'd hope for another central midfield addition as expecting the same XI to turn up every week and perform is unrealistic and, as well as Saliba's injury, cost us last season. I think there's reasonable cover in other positions. We don't have an out-and-out monster up front, but the way we play, I would expect the goals to be spread around as they were last season.
The really positive thing, if these deals are completed in the next couple of weeks, is that the squad will have a full pre-season with Arteta and the coaching team. I always think that in the early Wenger days, one of the reasons we enjoyed success was that we started fixture 1 with a settled squad and a decent pre-season, rather than scrambling around on deadline day. We haven't done that for years. Good signs. |

Can only see outgoings from now on. Perhaps one addition with potential but not anyone with a high price tag.
Be interesting to see who departs and what the end net spend eventually nets out at. |

Two nets but you get my drift.

Not too much to be taken out of a glorified friendly - the scenes of celebration were a bit over the top - but I suppose a win is a win and it’s not often anyone beats City to a trophy.
In terms of personnel, thought Timber looks a really good prospect. When Zinchenko is fit again I can’t see Ben White getting much of a look in, with Timber crossing to right back. I wasn’t keen on Trossard when he joined as he’d agitated for a move, but he’s an excellent player. Saka was given more time off than the others and it showed today. The conundrum is Havertz. There’s a good player there, but definitely not up front and I don’t think he would have been as advanced if Jesus was fit. I think they will move Tierney and Partey on. The latter is more of a liability than an asset. The real action starts next week…. |

Did well today and looking good for the new season.
Wouldn't want Partey to leave but if a big offer comes in from Saudi we might have to take it. He has featured a lot in pre-season tho and I think he is an important player who Arteta would want starting with Rice in the big games. He had a good season last year and was a bit tired and exposed at the end. Going to need cover in these positions with the CL to play. Not so sure about White either. I thought he did very well last season and doesn't need replacing. The LB position was more problematic, especially defensively. Zinchenko did very well but in midfield when he rotated with Xhaka quite a lot. They were both liabilities defending in the LB position, which they didn't have to do that much for most of the season but there is a weakness there. See what happens when Z is back. He might tweak the system a bit with all these new players coming in. He will prob need to get a lot of cash in the door so Tierney, Balogun and maybe ESR could be sold for decent fees. Would like to see the likes of Holding, Tomi and Tavares offloaded for whatever we can get too. Not sure where he sees Havertz fitting in but I'd give him a bit more time. |

That true Ben white looks good imo going foward for you On yesterday arsenal need a striker bad City lost two unbelievable good players to Saudi and Barcelona |
|

Arsenal definitely closing the gap. Timber might well turn out to be the best buy if the summer for Arsenal. I hope Tierney stays as solid defence is prerequisite for winning Championships.
Still don’t understand thd Hzvettz buy giving rivals £65 million. He is without doubt a very talented player ir can be again but the money would have been better spent towards a Caicedo, Lavia or the final piece in the jigsaw, a Workd Class centre forward should one become available. UnfuArteta looks like he wants Balogun and Tierney out to raise funds so it makes the zHavertz purchase even more questionable. He might know what he us doing but ever fan knows Arsenal need a top goal scorer. |
|
By:
Closed the gap
Or city lost two world class players that haven’t replaced imo |
|
By:
Both!
Centre midfield has been not just missing but a vulnerability for 15 years. It’s not rocket science. Every fan knows any club with title ambitions needs a 25 league goal striker. I am sure Havertz is a hood player but Arsenal clearly need a goal scorer not a luxury utility player and why give rivals j trouble over FFP £65 million a solve one of their many headaches? Bad business! Forget the centre forward for now as who knows when that player becomes available but again I say a Caicedo or Lavia would solidify the team. Both are proven and young. |
|

The lack of goals wasn't what cost us last year. It was a lack of quality cover at CH and in midfield when Saliba and Zinchenko were missing. I think that's been the priority and he looks to have addressed it. The LB position too perhaps as I think teams were targeting that area towards the end of last season. Remains to be seen what he has in mind for Havertz but it won't be as a goalscoring striker.
You don't need a 25 goal a year striker to win the league. Last year was the only year under Pep with any player scoring more than 21 league goals and they hit 100+ goals twice and won 4 leagues in that period, 2 of them with Arteta as coach. Goals are shared amongst the front 3 with wide attackers often being top scorer. Same under Klopp when Pool won it. City have Haaland now who is a special player but they didn't score more than in previous years last season despite all his goals. |
|
By:
True lurks but a goal scorer is not exactly a handicap.
A goal scorer terrorises defenders and gives space to others. The spine of the team needed addressing and the final piece is a goal scorer. The centre back emerged last season and now Rice is here. Could still do with another central midfield imho and cash in on Partey as there is plenty of young talent about. The right forward is more troublesome. |

'I've spoken to her. I actually said [to her], 'look, that happens sometimes with human beings,' that they are in such an intense game and such a high-intensity, emotional game, and in a split second she lost her emotions.
'Of course she apologised and she felt really, really bad. Absolutely she doesn't want to hurt anyone. 'This was a moment, it was a split second, it was later in the game, so players also get a little tired, she's an inexperienced player on this stage and she's done really well. Nuff said! |

25 goals is far more likely to come from Saka or Martinelli than the 9 position. Where is the cover for those two?
The spine of the team is strong and has been since Partey and Gabriel arrived. It's stronger with Saliba, Timber and Rice. Not sure Jesus is good enough to win the league tho. |
|
By:
You wouldn't know what Arteta is thinking tho. If the rumours about Raya are true then maybe he sees Ramsdale as not good enough. I don't think he can be happy with Jesus either. I doubt he wants to replace Ben White but you never know. Seems like he's not at all comfortable with second and wants to do well in the CL which is good.
Pep has evolved from having weak ball-playing defenders to more physical guys who can win duels like Akanji, Dias and Ake. He'll prob follow suit but I think it's the LB position where the obvious weakness is there rather than White. |

Not sure about that. Always seem to be vulnerable on the break just outside the opposition box! I am still smarting from a loss at Everton I think when Arsenal were 1-0 up and conceded 2 late goals. Of all people Xhaka did not take a card when he should have scythed down an attacker on the break and he ashley jumped out of the way near the halfway line so as not to collide, maybe he only got booked when he was paid ! The defence definitely stronger with Saliba who is one of the key missing links. I know Partey and Xhaka played very well last year but imho they both need changing. Partey could still play a big part and maybe having Rice around will see him at the levels he was at with Madrid. End of the day we all know a centre forward is needed. It is true we do not know what Arteta is thinking! It appears Balogun and Tierney will be fundraisers sadly. |

I'd rather Balogun stay and Eddie let go

Chiselled a result out yesterday. In complete control until the sending off and probably should have scored earlier.
Late on, if we had a few more defenders on the bench, I suspect he would have sent them on ![]() For Palace, thought Mitchell had a great game and largely nullified Saka, though they also doubled up on him well. Need the three points against Fulham as the more difficult games on paper are coming thick and fast. |
|

Kai Havertz is picked again, will he ever come good.?
I'd rather have Smith-Rowe or Reiss Nelson ahead of him, in fact, i'd rather have Sammy Nelson ahead of Havertz the way he's palying. ![]() |
|
By:
Was going to post similar. Looks a total waste of money to me. Clumsy and slow.
|
|
By:
Havertz has always looked like Ozil level of energy and physicality, can't have him in midfield unless that changes and doesn't look like it will. A step down from Xhaka in that position so far, but Vieira looks like he might come good in that role soon. Good to see White back at RB again. Saka suffers without him bombing on, nobody else to play that role.
Not really firing yet so a good start. Sat back against 10 men v Fulham when we should have gone for the 3rd. |
|
By:
Ground out three wins without hitting any heights, which I suppose is a good sign.
Interesting to see what happens after the break. Arteta is infamously stubborn, so will see whether he goes back to funky formations and playing style if/when all personnel are fit. I'm worried about Havertz. It wouldn't be so much of an issue if it wasn't for that fee..... |
|
By:
Havertz should've been eased in gradually by bringing him on as sub.
