Needs to balance that midfield
How are we still so vulnerable on the break? Arteta is supposed to be a good coach but if beggars belief. We have to let the Havertz thing go…. Paying £65 million to a rival to buy a player we wanted! Timber is a huge loss. That signing made the transfer window for me although obvs a centre forward and holding midfielder lite. Now the transfer window looks most unimpressive Sunday was like being stuck in a traffic jam in central London on the way to a concert where you paid for expensive tickets. You are pished and know you have missed it and dun your money then a helicopter lands next to your car or taxi and says hop in, concert delayed we can get you there on time. Arsenal were average yesterday but a win is a win! |

One of the biggest mysteries in football currently - what any manager sees in him?
Real Madrid & Bayern apparently made enquires before he came to AFC. A very poor man's Ozil imo. |
|
By:
I rewatched the game yesterday evening and Havertz is so underwhelming. Apart from the miskick six yards in front of goal, it was his pass that was intercepted in the lead up to Rashford's counterattack goal. As Lurka commented there is a bit Ozil about him and Vieira looks a much better proposition. I just have a feeling that like Ozil, Havertz may show good Opta stats but never really influence any of the crunch games. Arteta needs to be careful as the other players will get fed up if they think they are carrying a player. Incidentally Ozil looked ok when he seemed to be on the same wavelength as Sánchez. Havertz just might not have the ability to integrate into Arsenal fast style of play.
On a more positive note, Arsenal looked a far better team than United especially once the subs were made. The long term injuries to Timber and Partey a big concern, but I hope Arteta now settles with White and Gabriel as they work so well together. |

It's a massive gamble from Arteta bringing in a player nobody was crying out for.
Some players simply can not play with the pressure of expectation. Havertz looks like he could be another. |
|
By:
he scored the winner in a CL final ffs. Think he's ok with pressure.

Some people need to put this into context.
How many properties could you buy for £65 million? Even with a 5% yield that will produce an income of £3,250,000 p.a. or £270,000 a month in income before tax. Add in his monthly wages. I just cannot see how this goes past a businessman. Add in you are giving possibly your nearest rival £65,000,000 and they have FFP issues and just spent £1 Billion and are strapped with expensive aquisition's that nobody with any brains really wants. How did this deal get past Edu firstly and secondly The Board? Shirley somebody on the Board assuming they were English might say " are you having a tin bath Mikel and Edu? " Goal scoring centre forward, holding midfielder and beast of a centre back.....same as it ever was! I do though think Havertz could be a good player and now we have him be patient but the midfield need balancing immediately! |

Not saying he's very good. That goal apart he's done very little while here, and now Arteta is squeezing him into a new position so hardly rocket science he's been crap. But the idea he can't cope with pressure when he delivered on the biggest stage of all is clearly nonsense.
|
|
By:
I think you should've stopped at crap.
Not saying he won't improve but he's been crap since that single goal. |
|

Looking forward to the game on Sunday. Should be open with both teams going for it. Their new manager looks like a breath of fresh air. In all honesty, could go either way.
I have a good few friends who support the Spuds and, as a rule, I prefer to see the two clubs closely matched. I know that this may seem counterintuitive to many, but if we’re both doing reasonably well, it pushes us both on. It’s obviously better when we are ahead though…. |

Havertz May still prove to be a good footballer but Trossard is already and I hope he gets more game time.

I think Nketiah has finally proved he's not going to win us anything,
Surely Toney would be a better option once his ban has finished. |

Got a feeling Arteta has held off as he wants Toney in January.

Yes!
I mean why would you spend £65 million on Havertz and give the money to what was supposed to be a rival club in financial difficulties and not spend it on what the club needs? Maybe he has funds secured for Toney already as he is the major missing piece of the jigsaw that every fan has known since around 2007! We got a decent centre back and central midfielder. Arsenal need a goal scorer. It's so bleedin' obvious! |
|
By:
Agree WD, Every fan i know couldn't believe the Havertz signing.
Maybe we could offload him in a swap with Toney ![]() |
|
By:
Maybe Spurs will nick him instead?
![]() Good game at the weekend lads. |
|
By:
Ha!
Do you seriously think Brentford would want him or value him anywhere near £65 million? I do think though he could one day be a decent player just a mystifyingly stupid aquisition for Arsenal |

Dramatic/exciting game to watch on Sunday, but 4 poor goals all from mistakes. How Saka didn't get goal side of Maddison when he's played FB/WB before is beyond me. Schoolboy stuff and he had ages to do it.
Nketiah is as unimpressive as Havertz - what does he actually do? I read an article that said Jesus has underperformed his xG by 15 goals in the PL only since joining us. Has to be the next area to target, but hard to find the right player. Toney maybe. He would be attainable as I think he wants to play for Arsenal. Missed Trossard and Rice when he went off. Spurs are a good side and played some good stuff tho. Will be tough to finish in the top 3 with the CL to play this season. Although there should be 5 CL places next season hopefully. |

Obviously as a Gooner i have no time for Spurs, and vice versa i suppose.
So i grates me to say i do like there Manager ,he seems genuine. i liked El Tel as well. |

I think most gooners liked El Tel, he almost sunk us

![]() Victor Osimen might be available as if from today…. breaking news! |
|
By:
I am also ashley wondering if Osimen has grounds to tear up his contract?
I wonder if anyone at a football club reads the rubbish we do and think wow there is an opportunity. He could literally go on a free when they were looking for £115 million and I wonder if there really is a WW2 Bomber on the moon? |
|
By:
Was half joking but the Osimen situation is quite serious!
Somebody on the wireless last night said Arsenal do have an interest in Osimen, contact had been made and he would probably like to play in the Premier League. This might make him more affordable to Arsenal and puts even more into perspective the £65 million paid to a rival in financial bind. It might also help with the Toney negotiations. We saw how hard a ball Brighton played. This might persuade Brentford that Arsenal have another option. |
|
By:
I can't believe I am the only one getting a stiffy over the Osimen situation. Shirley he would be great for Arsenal and this puts him in the Arsenal price range unless of course the budget was spent on Havertz and Toney is but a cruel dream.

REALLY quiet on here. I can only assume we are top of the league and through to the knockout stages (aka The we'll get knocked out stages) of the Champions League with a game to spare, so there is literally nothing to moan about. Who actually wants to be a Gooner unless you can be relentlessly negative?
Having said that, I personally don't think we've been playing as well as we did last season, even though there are encouraging signs in recent weeks. I think the team is beginning to gel a bit. Still not totally convinced by Havertz, though there was a fabulous thread on here during the Brentford game when all the soothsayers were out in force. Tomiyasu is looking a way better player than I originally thought. Wolves v Arsenal on Saturday. The VAR Cup Final. Not totally straightforward and I really like their manager. Hopefully they don't get on the right end of a decision, even though they are well overdue. |

Maybe the many regular contributors of old have gone or been culled by BF?

It's possible wesdag. I just hope that not too many of them didn't Eat out to Help out and expire. Though an alternative theory is that engagement with a club's thread is inversely proportionate to its relative success.

Possibly, there's certainly fewer talking points these days.

No posts for months now. Proof, if it were needed, that we only post when we're moaning....
A decent season, but personally I'd be surprised if we walk away with any silverware. Those remaining fixtures, starting with today, just look too difficult with both City and Liverpool in relentless form. Bayern will be interesting on Tuesday. The hope is we catch them on a non-going day. |
|

sunning myself on my yacht in Barbados, friend has promised me his ticket for the Everton match to watch the lifting of the title, can't believe it's been 20 years. We should be steamrolling this Bayern team, they beat us 5-1 the last 3 times we've played, remember their twitter feed post after the last time "same time again next year", hope we smash them in both legs, also hope Madrid beat City, would rather face them in the semi's, the other side of the draw is weak, we'd be favs in the final. Lord Arteta making mugs of all those that wanted him sacked, I always said give him 3 full years to get all the players he wants in, in, and all the players he wants out, out, and the belief the top brass have showed him is paying off, even if we walked away with nothing, he at least has got us back to genuinely competing which is a great start. If for some reason we don't win the league, hope Liverpool win, can't bear that bald headed ponce Pep grinning after winning a record 4 in a row, his ego would explode. Let's also hope Lord Emery takes 4th spot, top manager, shame it didn't work out at Arsenal, he has the short straw of being lumbered with a load of players he couldn't get rid of, whilst having dodgy transfer guru's who've since gone, foisting players like Pepe on to him.
In Arteta we trust. Kind Regards. |

When Liverpool beat us in the cup we had something like 56 shots in 3 games and 1 goal, in that game and the West Ham home game it was 43 shots 0 goals. We lost the other 2 games to West Ham at home and Fulham away. We were still dominating teams and creating chances but it looked like we needed a striker desperately in the Jan window. There were no negative posts on here then either.
It has been some turnaround since then in front of goal but we have also become a nightmare of a team to score or even play against. On paper and on that basis, I don't see the rest of the fixtures, apart from Spurs away, being that difficult. However, with the CL in the mix they become a lot harder. If we go deep in that comp I don't think we will do it but I won't be too disappointed if not. Getting top 4 without competing with Pep/Klopp would have been fine at this stage for me. Going out to Bayern might mean that 5th place doesn't get CL which could shaft Spurs if they finish 5th. A better season than last for me and loads of room for improvement both with the current crop and new signings. Squad to challenge on all fronts is not there yet imo and the players and Arteta are still learning. I just hope Barca don't come calling for Arteta any time soon. Not sure he'd leave to go to City if Pep left but more likely he would for them imo (provided they can match his ambitions with signings). The CL is a different format and more of a managerial tactical battle against much more experienced managers. Found it very difficult in the last round but had to play it cagey at home due to the undeserved goal Porto got. Get the impression Arteta might sit back on leads in that format like he used to do in his early days but it was only one one tie and he couldn't afford to concede at any stage in the home leg. |
