Good post lurka.
Like you, I called the result on this forum back in February, so it was no surprise to me that we fell short (in spite of the sadly predictable bottling posts by half wits. The power of deflection can be huge amongst some). Disappointing in the way we ran out of steam, for sure, but in the last couple of games the players have looked absolutely spent. I think we’ve also been ‘worked out’ in the latter parts of the season by opposition coaches in the lower reaches of the league. The points we have dropped have primarily been to teams who have sat deep and kept things tight (I don’t blame them for doing that). We just haven’t had the guile to break them down. There hasn’t been enough space to exploit. That’s not a criticism of Arteta, just don’t think he currently has the tools at his disposal to fix this. City have set new standards and the fact that we emerged as the strongest challengers having finished 5th last year, is some cause for encouragement, but also shows how other clubs have stagnated or gone backwards (apart from Newcastle). I wouldn’t be too hopeful of having a better season next year in all honesty. Perhaps we have reached our zenith. The traditionally big clubs like Liverpool, Man U, Chelsea and Spuds will invest, as will Newcastle who I believe will eventually emerge as the main challenger to Man City’s dominance. It’s a massive Summer for recruitment. Among muted departures are Xhaka, Tierney, Smith Rowe, Balogun, Lokonga and Tavares (I’d keep Emile and Folarin myself). Just hope they get their business done quickly to give Mikel and the coaching staff more time to work with the new recruits. |

Lord Mikel of Arteta has done a great job this season, if we beat Wolves at home in the final game of the season it'll be 84 points, the best points return since the Invincibles nearly 20 years ago, let that sink in.
The key moment in the season was the loss of Saliba, not only was he replaced with Holding, a pound shop Eric Dier, but it clearly had a reverberating effect throughout the team especially amongst the players around him, players draw strength and confidence from having quality teammates on the pitch, Partey's form dropped most notably. The only real criticism I'll have for him is that once we were in a genuine title race, he should have binned off the Europa League which served no real purpose, it would only have been a carrot worth chasing if the CL place that came with it meant something, but considering we were nailed on top 4 it meant nothing, and it was against Sporting where we lost Saliba, waste of time and energy on the whole. The lead we had was not unassailable, City had a game in hand for a long while so it was an artificial points gap anyway, they literally have 2 teams within their squad they would be in the top 6 in the league, therein lies the difference, the lack of squad depth was our undoing nothing to do with bottling a lead, you'd have to have a Newcastle esque gap under Keegan in the mid 90's for a lost lead to qualify as bottling. We ultimately however lost the league because we're competing against a State run football club 15 years in the making, with a bottomless pit of money who break financial fair play rules and get away with it. In Klopp's first few years it was 8th, 4th, 4th, 2nd, 1st, Arteta's is 8th, 8th, 5th, 2nd, the similar trend is a reflection upon the fact both needed just over 3 years to get all the players they want in, in, and all the players they want out, out, to build their own squad in it's entirety so they are no longer wearing the clothes of the previous manager. Logic dictates with a good transfer window, which is now far easier with Champions League football on offer, that there's no reason why we can't win the title next season, Rice for Xhaka would a start, moving on Eddie, El Neny etc. The one thing you can't ignore is there's going to be much tougher competition next season, Newcastle are hear to stay, United if they get Kane will be much stronger, Chelsea under Pochettinho will be back amongst it and Liverpool's hang over season from playing every game possible the previous year, is over. Edu can't afford to put a foot wrong this summer, Kind Regards. |

I've very rarely posted anything negative here on this thread and it's usually only as a result of Wesdag or Storm Alert thrash-talking on the Spurs thread. Mesmerised, you're the only person on this whole forum who believes that Emitdeb and I are the same poster.

It predates that by quite a long way. December 2019. You posted an unlucky lads. My subsequent reply and yours have both been deleted (someone must have complained about the language). The email I got was in the aftermath of that.

sofaking ...I've very rarely posted anything negative here on this thread and it's usually only as a result of Wesdag or Storm Alert thrash-talking on the Spurs thread...
What a load of hyperbole you spout; I've only posted about three times on the Spurs thread the most negative if it can be called that "2:3 " after the Bournemouth match. In retaliation to the regular negative posts from you and Emitdeb in all sorts of threads including this one. Stop being such a big girls blouse, if your going to give it out expect some back... |

For sure I've posted several posts mocking Arsenal over the years but very rarely on this thread. And I guess it was mostly Wesdaq doing all the thrash talking on the Spurs thread. Ah come on fink sisters, I (apparently) posted an "unlucky lads" 3½ years ago and you're still talking about it. We've had countless "unlucky lads" from one of your guys over the years. It's just a bit of banter.

Trash talking lol.
I don't engage in juvenile exchanges. Please show your examples sofaking? Most of my posts refer to how ENIC have fcked you lot over. |

Wesdag
23 Apr 23 22:20 Sofa & Emitdeb, were either of you alive when Spuds last won the League? I know JFK was. I recon this falls into the juvenile post.. on the Spurs page! Then you get retaliation on the Arsenal page, which winds all the regular Arsenal posters up... Yet even now Wesdag feels it necessary to post sht there! ![]() Point is let's all grow up! |

The post before that in response to?
![]() Always best to provide context, don't you think? |

Virtually all my posts on the Spurs forum are always berating ENIC & how the fans have been taken for fools.
If I was to post after every Spurs misfortune, I'd never be away from yer forum tbf. ![]() |

Pretty exciting times ahead. Looks like Rice is almost done and Caicedo expressing his desire for a move to Arsenal with personal terms allegedly done.
That is a huge boost for the Defence despite needing a centre back ( ideally a beast ) a right back and a left back ( hoping Tierney stays ). A centre forward is also needed but the midfield duo would be far more than incremental progress. Not saying Arsenal will be able to dethrone the Oil Barons but there would be some wonderful football and probably cement Arsenal’s place as legitimate challengers. The last season was an anomaly. Not saying Arsenal had the squad or team to win but if they went on to beat Liverpool in that second half the confidence soars, they smash West Ham and destroy Southampton. All of a sudden the pressure would have been pleasure. We will see what happens but if Rice and Caicedo are secured I would imagine a number of centre forwards would like a go at Arsenal. |

Good assessment.

We’re officially into silly season. Kai Havertz for £70 million? You’re having a larf.
Prefer not to comment until deals are actually done, but some shrewd business with Saliba now tied down. There will be a lot of names bandied around and fewer signings. We’ll see. |
|
By:
KH - 30 goals in 3 seasons lol.
The geezer looks in need of a good meal - not exactly Haaland level. |
|
By:
Caicedo must be the next major deal to be done. After that a beast at the back.
Fanciful to hear reports that Arsenal are talking to Chelsea about Havertz. I would love to know if this is really true.` |
|
By:
Tis true according to Fabrizio.
AFC focussed on Rice & Havertz. CFC on Caicedo. |
|
By:
So I heard. I just hope Arsenal are pulling their chain and stump up the £80 million that will be needed for Caicedo
|
|
By:
Havertz is carp.

By:
I’m still a bit meh over Havertz. The plan would seem to be to deploy him in a similar role to the one he played before joining Chelsea which is not as an out-and-out striker. Time will tell, but I’m not convinced.
Jettisoning both Xhaka and Partey at the same time also looks risky to me. Rice isn’t a done deal by any means yet and I do find transfer prices more than a bit strange. How can Bellingham, 20, cost £12m less than Rice, 24? |
|
By:
I am appalled that Arsenal have given Chelsea the money to buy Moises Caicedo. What a stupid piece of business. Chelsea have to sell. Fergusson knew big clubs had to pay a premium to get the player. Arsenal have been Micky Mouse and despite Rice wanting to come he may get pinched by either Manchester club.
Both these players would have given Arsenal what they lack to be challenging certainly for second spot and maybe in the future when they secure a centre back and goal scorer a shot at the title. If they only made these two signings it would have been enough for the season. Whilst a centre back is also a priority these two would have fielded the at times weak defence. The improvement would give Arsenal the time to wait for the right goal scoring centre forward should they become available and there are few in the World. Onana may be available from Everton and kicks people, which, is what Arsenal have been lacking for nearly 20 years but Caicedo is the real deal at 21. Proven and real class. I don't know the workings of football or a football club but it seems bleedin' obvious to me and certainly most fans where Arsenal need strengthening and they had the chance to fix a 20 year problem and they look like blowing it! There seem to be any number of centre backs available that would improve Arsenal. Not getting 2 World Class midfielders who said they wanted the move borders on the criminal for me. |
|
By:
I think Havertz may turn out to be a good buy. He might suit Arsenal and a young team will build his confidence and he will be happy at Arsenal but to give Chelsea the money so they can get one of your priority targets is madness.

Looks to me as if they're writing off Smith-Rowe.

It would appear so and also a possibility Odegaard may one day return to Madrid, well the papers say!

ESR looks weak & injury probe imo.
Odegaard - probably agent talk. |
