Xhaka getting injured. I bet there is nothing wrong with him, he just doesn't want to be sold. Our leader
By:
Longest run of games without a win since 1992.
Quite some going. |
By:
I thought we looked okay with Luiz in a defensive midfield role.
But it went to pieces after his injury. Gwen wasn’t as disciplined as Luiz and I’ve got no idea why Xhaka stayed on when quite clearly he was fooked. Part of the problem is the players....they failed Wenger and Unai. It’s actually worse now because some don’t care and are downing tools. Norwich need to take a hard look at themselves if they don’t win on Sunday...should be an easy 3nil. Straight up relegation 6 pointer they have to win. |

I thought Xhaka had gone off injured but not so. He should be told to find a new club in January and not risked, it is a gilt-edged opportunity to finally get rid of him. If we do he will prob have to take a pay cut and he is the type of guy who won't do that and will dig his heels in and try to stay beyond Jan. He has the Euros to think about so you could tell him now that he's not going to play much and that would probably do it.
The problem we have is that in the Summer I think Raul agreed the bigger deals with more staggered payments than usual as we certainly didn't have that kind of money to spend in the normal course. That meant we could spend big and still comply with FFP. But it means that we probably won't have as much to spend in the next window or two. In that sense it was a gamble that we'd get CL football with these new players. And paying off Emery will only further eat into the already reduced budget for a new manager. I have seen figures of £4m and £15m in the media as being the payoff amount and I believe there is an option to extend/break Emery's deal in the Summer. I suspect that if the £15m figure is more accurate it means that if we break the contract before the Summer he is entitled to be paid for next season as well but if we do it in the Summer we can exercise the break. If we can only get out of year 3 by waiting until the Summer that is a big f up by whoever drafted the break/extension clause in his contract. If the above is accurate then Raul's gambling with finances has backfired miserably too and we will probably have to keep the likes of Xhaka and the other mug players. That will mean we will be out of the running for the top managers as they will go elsewhere and we'll have to go with someone prepared to work under major financial restrictions imo. |

emery deserves plenty of criticism but if people think just changing the manager time and time again will change anything theyre deluded.
in hindsight i think emery was the only one willing to take the job under the restrictions we have in place on spending dont believe the crap about how much we spent in the summer, after iwobi was sold it reduced the net close to the 40 odd banded around, we have only paid around 15 so far for pepe he did ok for a while but in reality the mess wenger left behind is going to take a decade to fix the way those players last night ducked away from the ball, almost allowed frankfurt to score twice, and then didnt even try and get an equaliser , stinks player power has taken over and we ve seen it at chelsea (1st,10th,1st) man utd (mourinho/pogba) and spurs even recently. make no mistake , emery has got a lot wrong, and recently his subs have been odd to say the least, maybe hes also been trying to get out ! but he wasnt allowed to get on with his job, told ozil had to play when he clearly didnt want him (and probably rightly so despite his obvious quality) told xhaka shouldnt (which i agreed with) but to be honest these changes only made the team even worse i think despite his failings , emery has acted with class and i hope he comes back stronger elsewhere. he needs to be put out of his misery today by this gutless board i dont see arsenal ever returning to former glories until the owner leaves and we may have to see a nosedive in the share price before he panics and sells unfortunately this is more governed by tv deals now than performance on the pitch so i wont hold my breath very sad |

Emery said last night 'we are improving', that says to me he knows he is a goner, that the players aren't playing for him and he is trying to force a pay off by making more and more ridiculous statements and making his position more and more untenable. Not sure that's particularly classy but it's understandable.
Raul's deals have certainly hampered any future manager and have affected who we can get in as manager. But agree Wenger and Gazidis' legacy is even worse, signing Ozil on those wages, a marmite player when a new manager was likely, as well as letting top players run down contracts and signing mugs on big wages will hamstring the club for years to come still. |

Arsenal need a strong manager, not a yes man. I would bring Vieira in and let him sort the soft ****s out. Risky yes but it is a complete mess and we need a proper leader. An Arsenal man through and through. Tough times ahead but Frank is doing OK @ chelski so it can work.
By:
thats the whole point they ll only employ a yes man not a strong personality
allegri was coming last time but wanted 200 mio to spend on the defence, now the number needed is probably larger , and that doesnt even bring the crap midfield into things this is now beyond repair until the owner sells |
By:
They need an established manager who is going to sort out the defence as a priority and instil discipline. Not a Vieira or Arteta please. Vieira has a poor track record and Arteta no track record. Ljungberg is just as qualified as either of them.
By:
literally the only two appointments that would excite me are allegri or simeone, and i think we ve fallen too far now in the last 10 years for either of them to be interested
we wouldnt give them the tools to do the job required anyway we ve just been mismanaged for far too long and the damage done by wengers last decade is too deep virtually every player needs replacing |
By:
People laughed at Brendan Rogers being mentioned before Emery. Not a yes man and improves players - My choices in order are Allegri, Rogers, Poch but doubt we will get any of them

Rafa would organise the team .
But at the end of the day , whoever is buying the players needs to get a central defender and a midfielder |
By:
There's only one manager capable of sorting the mess out at the back and he's a nasty piece of work to boot. We should break the bank to lure Simeone across.
By:
Rafa is on £12m after tax with 2 years left in China. Allegri would be good but I'd say he won't work under financial constraints and will probably be wanted by bigger teams. Simeone would sort out the defence and has worked on a budget lower than Everton's for years. He is too defensive but is probably the best candidate in all the financial circumstances and I'd be very happy if we got him. He would bring in a lot of good players on the cheap and organise them very well, get rid of the lightweights in our squad and make the team competitive against anyone. Would prefer Allegri but don't think he'll come to us. If they go for someone before the Summer they are severely limiting their options.
By:
I’m in agreement with Sergeant Major Simeone smashing a few heads in...
But the fans in general would need to change their silly attitude of wanting pretty football and accept his brand of football. Ridicule all u want but it works...we had then down to 10 men for 80 minutes and could only get a 1-1 draw. But the majority want pretty triangles with Ozil playing the killer pass ffs |
By:
Simeone is a manager who almost every match his team scores 1 goal or less ,dont concede may either must admit ,but is that really the type of negative stuff you want to watch ?? I think not ,look elsewhere.
By:
There's only one man to sort out this mess- Mourinho, hold up he's gone......
By:
think they would need to offer a top manager a big transfer kitty to attract them and not sure that will happen, could see them looking towards bournemouth or wolves in the prem
By:
Yes, there are a lot of 'fans' who started supporting Arsenal once they moved to the shiny new stadium with higher ticket prices. These are the fans who revere Arteta as a 'legend' captain and who've never known Arsenal as being a solid, tough side that are hard to beat, which they were for 15 years during which they won their last 5 titles. Unfortunately they make up a large proportion of the support and the Kroenkes will likely listen to them as they are a shower of clueless mugs. Edu and Raul went to the US after the Southampton game to meet the absentee owners. They can't even be arséd to come over for something as serious as a managerial change.

Re Poch, I doubt he is in a position to go to another PL club until at least the Summer and he is an honourable guy who is loyal to Spurs and wouldn't come to us.
However, apparently his sacking meeting, the informing of the players and the first team meeting with Mourinho were all filmed by Amazon for that documentary, which was classless and disrespectful by Spurs to even allow it. It may not be shown in the doc whenever it airs but it must leave a bad taste in the mouth and what better way to pay them back .... but I think his loyalty is more to the supporters and they had nothing to do with it. |
By:
Spurs probably only sacked Poch to make the documentary worth watching.

Poch wont manage arsenal
First arsenal will have to pay the release of the contract that has a termination clause, poch has to be 6 months out of a job first, in that time he will have United or madrid contract offered. Spurs got Mourinho in before poch went, looks like they had a plan in place after making the decision after the Brighton game!! Arsenal have sacked Emery without a plan, looks like it a case of looking for what is available!! Wouldn't be surprised is ljungberg is still in charge come 2020 |
By:
I know what Poch said and I stated in the first sentence of my post that he likely won't be in a position to manage another PL team until the Summer and that he wouldn't manage Arsenal.
How do you know the exact terms of his termination agreement with Spurs btw? All I said was that if the Amazon stuff is true you never know. It is a shockingly bad way to deal with an honourable guy and must leave a foul taste in the mouth. Mourinho wouldn't have looked twice at Spurs if it weren't for what Poch did there. And I doubt his patronising statements about Poch since he took the job are going down well having negotiated with Spurs while Poch was still in the job. I think it's highly unlikely to happen but stranger things. |

The owners are the problem. Just won't spend. Whoever they get in things unlikely to change much as funds just won't be there. It's being a slowly going downhill for years. Wenger should have gone 2 3 years before he did. The squad needs a complete overhaul that takes money but its not there. Whoever they get in has a massive job on their hands.
By:
Oh they spend alright. The 75 million quid spunked on Pepe should've been used to purchase a couple of half central defenders.
By:
half decent central defenders*
By:
Yeah but the money hasnt been there for years. 75M is pocket change these days. The money hasn't been there for years. I agree the money should have been spent on defenders but i just dont think the owners are willing to invest the real cash needed to win things. They are just happy to let things continue and maybe sell down the road.
By:
They actually don't have much to spend. They have lost their CL income and FFP prevents them from spending more. They had loads of money to spend before FFP was introduced but didn't and a lot of the problems stem from that. The Summer they spent £10m on Cech they should have heavily invested in the squad because the new PL deal had been agreed for the following season by that stage and every club in the league would be getting an extra £30m+ a year from the following season onwards. It was obvious transfer fees and wages would rocket and they had about £200m in reserves that they could have spent without restriction. They still have bags of money but you can't just go out and spend it any more.
Their main issue is their wage bill which is huge. They have a big number of dross players on big wages who will not want to leave because nobody will pay them as much. So you either renew their contracts or let them leave for free and have to replace them. PL FFP rules are even stricter than Uefa FFP rules when it comes to wages. You are not allowed to increase your wage bill by more than £7m a year unless the excess increase comes from increased non-TV income (gate receipts, sponsorships, transfer market profits etc). Gazidis and Wenger gave Ozil a £350k a week deal in their final year and that alone increased the wage bill by more than £7m for Emery's first year. That and letting their top players like Sanchez, Ramsey and Ozil run down their contracts has been terrible financial management and cost the club dearly. There is no quick fix. They would have to pay a club to take Ozil or pay a large chunk of his wages if he were to go to another club. They are stuck with him and that is primarily Wenger's fault. It has hamstrung his successors badly. |
By:
Contrast with Liverpool who have made huge profits on the likes of Suarez and Coutinho and invested it in their manager and the team, making the team more successful on the pitch, getting CL final money for 2 straight years. That has raised their profile and they have tapped into that and maximised their commercial revenue as a result, making them able to compete and beat teams like City and United who have much more money to spend than they do, they have spent about £400m and £350m net more than Liverpool have over the last 5 years. Smart American owners unlike the Kroenkes and Glazers.
By:
Basically Arsenal are a Europa League club paying Champions League wages and it is killing them and there is no quick fix. The media have always potrayed them as a financially prudent, well-run club but they are anything but since Kroenke took control.

Per in the dug out as the No2 until Gilberto is finalised...he lives in London so just minor stuff to sort out.
Wenger really knew how to pick them...Edu, Freddie, Per and Gilberto sorting this c rap out. Maybe Vieira isn’t out of this. |
