Spurs made a huge mistake by sacking him and Arsenal will make a huge mistake by not sacking Emery.
I am not one for sacking managers. Despite his problems I never supported sacking Wenger. Be careful what you wish for! Poch would be the perfect fit for Arsenal as it happens as was Klopp before he went to Liverpool. Wenger could have mentor'd Klopp in but obviously it was too hard for him to let go even though he should have for the good of the club. |
|
By:
Agree that Poch would be a good fit for Arsenal, though two observations: the same frustrations he felt at Spurs would undoubtedly raise themselves with us, given the parsimonious owners. Second, hard to imagine that the canny Levy or his lawyers haven’t put a clause in his severance package stopping him moving across to the nicer part of North London.

Let's wait and see what Mourinho's severance package is before we call Levy canny! and how much debt he will build up! |

whispering - 'be careful what you wish for' ? an old cliche i've never understood.
Wenger was a joke for the last 10 years of his reign and rightly sacked way after time. We were told by Wenger a load of clubs were clamouring for him to be their manager but when he does become available nobody goes near him. AFC fans had different opinions of who should have been the new boss but i don't seem to recall ANYBODY wanting Emery. Up to the board to get a decent manager when this mug does eventually get sacked. |

I always remember Charlton fans whinging and whining that Alan Curbishly had taken Charlton as far as he could and a new man was needed to take the next step....and they were so right.....all the way down to the third tier! I am not trying to defend Wengers myopia but what has followed? I do think Arsenal are close though and a new man might get them back to where they ought to be...Top 4. Challenging but not winning anything significant with the current owner. |

If Emery is to survive (and I don't think he can or will)then he needs to put hungry players into the team. Martinelli should be in and the likes of Chambers Sokratis Holding Mavrapanos Willock Saka Nelson should be in line for that. PEA Luiz Ozil and to a lesser extent Torreira and Lacca need to be shown they are not bigger than the club. We need fighters right now so if Emery is to stay he will need to get those players out of the side that have downed tools to get him out- I've had enough of player power.

Negative, fearful selection.
If we lose this, he really has to go....... |

Tata Dick, mind how you go, even if we comeback and win, its still Tata Dick as far as i'm concerned

Surely he's gone tonight..this cannot go on.

Don’t bank on it enpassant, spineless money men running our club....
They were counting on us winning these three ‘easy’ games to take the pressure off Manuel. What no one seems to have realised is that our form is relegation standard. |
|
By:
Regardless of the result they could have had 5 today easy. It is over for Emery
|
|
By:
Fans were being ejected for chanting Emery out.
Poor from the club... |
|
By:
We have won TWO of our last 11 Premiership games. Yet no sign of this w*nker being moved on. Desperate stuff. Hope the ire turn towards Silent Stan and the supine Board. Needs to be a concerted attempt to stay away now.

By:
This is bad as I’ve seen since Terry Neill. Genuine contenders for relegation unless they act quickly.

Since April in the League... Won 7 Drawn 7 Lost 7 28 out of 63 points...over 38 games that’s 51 points...good enough for 10th last season. Goal difference is trending that way too. This will only get worse... |

So many clueless mugs at the club. Until they stop signing attacking players and concentrate on the defence this 10 years of weakness will become 20 and more and it doesn't matter who they have as manager because it doesn't seem like they even recognise that they need a manager who will strengthen there.
So many fans calling for Arteta next. What has he done as a manager to justify this (or as an Arsenal player?). What is his record in the transfer market? Do you honestly think he is going to sort out the defence having learned everything he knows from Pep and Wenger? It really is bewildering to hear him touted by fans. Look at what Spurs have gone and done this week at board level. They are streets ahead of us on and off the pitch despite their league position. There aren't enough good managers around to satisfy all the higher profile clubs who are or will be on the lookout and probably sounding out replacements before they sack. You have to strike and get in there and get your man, paying over the odds if necessary like Spurs have, before someone else gets in there first. |

The board are not to blame for the shambles that is going on at the min. They have spent big in the window for us [we are not Man City] and really top stars wouldn't dream of coming to us. The board brought in Raul and Edu upstairs, and i didn't hear to many dissenting voices at those appts.
They dithered over Wenger and took too long to get rid i know that. But people were saying Emery needs 2 seasons to get the personnel he wants, and the board seem to be doing that. Fact is we are going backwards under Emery and a new manager has to be sought. No point rushing in and getting anybody. As Lurka says there are not too many decent managers to go around. We have to write this season off and go again next season. But we need a tried and trusted manager and not take a punt on somebody inexperienced or unkown to the EPL. |
|
By:
I’ve had a cheeky couple of quid on relegation at .250/1. Cant buy an away win and keep dropping points at home. This season will get worse before - and even if- it gets any better.

By:
'They have spent big in the window for us'
Net spend is £13m |

By:
Man City pay their kitman more.

I really fear for us now, when we equalized yesterday, Dick never even celebrated, he's confidence is shot to bits along with the team, it seems under the current regime, as soon as any players sign for Arsenal, they go into semi retirement, its all too lax and easy for the players, nobody takes any responsibility, it stems from Wenger and nothing has changed, we need a strong manager, who will sign a strong leader,
Step forward Brendan Rogers, if we continue in our current form, i fear a relegation battle, and i never thought i would say that in my lifetime, but there are so many teams that can outwit, outplay and outbattle us, i'm not confident of beating any other prem team in our current form, something has to change very very quickly |
|
By:
I make it that we spent 137 million and got back 48 million, with Iwobi the only half decent player leaving. The rest were too old.
|
|
By:
Hilarious that it’s still Wenger’s fault...the new manager is well into his second season ffs.
Our next games: Norwich A Brighton H West Ham A Man City H Everton A Bournemouth A Chelsea H That takes us to the end of the year. Given our lack of confidence and away form, every chance of only picking up 1 or two points away. Chelsea and Man City will fancy it at our place and a home win against Brighton is by no means a given. Desperate times. |
|
By:
Its Wenger who put lazy foo kers like Ozil, Xhaka,& Mustafi on ridiculous contracts, and thats been like a rope around the next managers neck,
i think Dick should be sacked as he's lost the dressing room, but that never helped him |
|
By:
We are going backwards. As has been said domestically we need to write the season off. We need someone to come in who realises this so tells the clowns who drive this bus that is the situation. Give the young lads a proper run in the team and clear out all of the dead wood. Hopefully in a season or so we will see the way forward but it certainly isnt a case of buying our way out of it. It wont work We have to develop the young lads and give them the chance to break in properly. The hope is they may turn out to be as good as they have looked in spells when given the opportunity. If not we have been goosed by all that has gone on in the last 5 years or so.
|
|
By:
This is not all the fault of Emery although his time has come and gone
|
|
By:
Who do we bring in as the manager ? That is going to be the big question
|
|
By:
John w Henry - yes it’s a key decision but our current management (the people who run the club) are timid in the extreme and parsimonious to boot. For them, Manuel was a good appointment despite his almost non existent English and lack of Premiership experience. I suspect that the thing that swayed them was that they were able to pay him comfortably less than Wenger and the fact that there was no ‘release fee’, which you have to pay when a manager is in demand. Hence the desire to give him more time.
I think, given our well documented defensive problems, that the most bizarre decision the club made was to spend £27 million on a defender and loan him straight out! I think the Poch rumours are all wishful thinking. Shame, as he would be a good fit. He’s on record as saying he wouldn’t work for local rivals of his previous clubs and he seems like an honourable guy. |
|
By:
The problem is that Wenger was there so long that everyone at the club and most of the fans think the only way the club should play is his way. His way which is more than 10 years out of date. And ironic that it only became his way after tried to copy Pep at Barca. It wasn't his way when he won doubles and got us to a CL final.
It's a simple case of asking every potential candidate one question - how would you make Arsenal better? If the answer is not based on defensive strengthening then forget it. Same question should be asked of Raul and Edu as well. Fire the two of them if they can't see it. They are going to have to throw some money at the new guy as well but it will be a worthwhile investment if he sorts out that defence and instils discipline and leadership. We simply cannot afford to get another guy in who plays similar to Wenger's last decade. Even an absentee American owner should be able to see this. You don't have to have a clue about football to see it. It is a general sporting issue rather than a football one. |
|
By:
Our next fixtures are absolutely hideous.
Let’s be honest...Brighton at home is the only one we can be sure of winning...on current form the rest are straight up Ls. Dreading the next NLD. - I’ll stick to what I said earlier...Emery is gone but let’s take our time and find the right person for all of the problems we have ie The captaincy - did we seriously let a shrink tell us to have a vote and 5 captains so people won’t feel bad?? The formation The deadweight in the side The Ozil situation The Xhaka situation The Torreira situation The youth who should be playing Etc etc etc |
|
By:
Talk of having to pay Emery and his team £15m if we sack him. Previously it was reported that his contract ended this season and there was an option to extend for another year. So we have to wait til the end of the season or else pay him for 1.5 years. That sounds like a f up. It will be money well spent but Kroenke won't see it that way.
|
|
By:
Nuno taking money....that said we can expect some red herrings in a market like this.
Won’t mind him...but why leave wolves lol |
|
By:
Get the impression that Nuno is a conduit for Mendes to move his players around and generate agent's fees. Mendes is his agent too.
Don't really want to get too into speculation as there will probably be a lot of it. |
|
By:
Yes, saw this too.
Talks a good game and he’s done a great job at Wolves. Prior record is uninspiring. Can’t think why he’d want to leave Wolves either. If they do want him, they’ll have to pay a hefty release fee. |
|
By:
Mendes is a parasite, steer well clear
|
|
By:
I have never understood why clubs pay the agents fees!
Shirley the agent represents the player and hence the player should pay him for his services? I know nothing about the finances of the game so no doubt there are people at clubs getting big fat backhanders from the agents too! |
|
By:
The player should pay but it's a deal breaker if the club doesn't so the club is held to ransom. Mendes seems to wield an inordinate amount of influence over the players his managers buy and where and in some cases how much his players move for. Wouldn't be surprised if there are backhanders or kickbacks moving between his agency and his clients and clauses in his clients' contracts ensuring he gets paid well.

I would imagine even the Arsenal players want to lose against Norwich! I am sure many fans do!
The good thing to come out of this is a half empty Emirates. This might be the trigger that is needed to get the message to the Board. |
