errr I don’t think that’s an apology
More like someone explaining what their 1st day on the internet was like Well there’s mean people who say mean things to me and make me cry. - We really need to fire Dr Melfi...that’s a shocking counselling job imo |

It's a cowardly statement from a person who is too immature and has too big an ego to admit that they were in the wrong or apologise for it. Implicitly seeks to tar the fans in the stadium - who rightfully booed him when he got the hump about being taken off and strolled off - with the same brush as anonymous people who have given him vile abuse online, thereby seeking to excuse what he did. Online abuse has got nothing to do with Sunday.
'My wish is that we get back to a place of mutual respect..' - implies that both he and the fans were disrespectful. The fans didn't disrespect him, they rightfully booed him, only he disprespected them. 'My feeling of not being understood by fans' - how have they not understood him? He told them to F Off? His performances have never been good enough. This guy has the mentality of a spoilt teenager, seeking to defend what he did rather than be a man and hold his hands up and apologise and admit what he did was unacceptable and wrong. Not a leader. A typical modern day footballer living in a bubble. |

Emery says he's going to consult with the players as to whether Xhaka can still be captain. Another limp-minded indecisive policy. Be an authority over the players FFS and put your foot down. You should have picked the captain yourself in the first place and laid down a marker on day one. They'd be better off managing themselves. At least they'd come up with tactics they'd be comfortable playing rather than Emery's chopping and changing every 15 minutes.

Another vote lurka?
Has Gina Miller signed off on this? |
By:
Ha who knows? I think most of the players support Xhaka which is a little disappointing tbh and I'd say he'll keep the captaincy.
Then there's this https://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/premier-league/ arsenal-emery-xhaka-ozil-behind-the-scenes-a9180336.html Wouldn't believe it's true, perhaps there is a bit of light-hearted ribbing of his accent. Hope the young players aren't involved in anything more than that as he's given them their chance and it says a lot about our senior players and lack of discipline if they are. But if ever it was to happen it would happen under Emery. PSG and Valencia players did similar. We really need a no nonsense manager the players are afraid to mess around under. |

Next week Emery is going to invert the team. Leno will be heading the attack and PEA will be in goal. We will be playing a 111111211 formation with Torreira sitting just behind Leno.

Poor old Manuel.
Looking increasingly hapless by the week and now even the kids are taking the piss out of his English by looking up old editions of Fawlty Towers and doing impressions. His days are definitely numbered - it’s a question now of when, not if. Seeing as it’s Arsenal, we can expect this sorry excuse for a manager to limp on until the end of the season. |

History will remember Wenger well. I always said that. We are the fourth richest club, the barometer is fourth. Let's hope we finish fourth but I doubt it.

Since April in the League
Won 7 Drew 6 Lost 6 27 from 57 points I’d expect that to be 27 from 60 after Leicester away next week. Brendan is going to rip Emery’s tactics apart... - One manager I'd like us to consider is Rafa. Knows the League inside out, proven winner, would have a system / game plan...could possibly repair the rift between the players and fans. Worth a shot... Ideally I want Simeone so he can smash a few heads in but there’s no chance of leaving AM. But rumour is Raul and Mourinho are quite chummy. |
By:
I think Raul and Emery are quite chummy too. Nonsense about 4th Pixie. Spurs aren't in the top 4 money wise, Liverpool weren't but prob are now because they've sought to punch above their weight and done it. Sort out our defence and we can get 3rd and higher thereafter with a bit of ambition. The club has been poorly run on and off the pitch for over a decade. Man U are not in the top 4 so why is 4th the barometer? Surely it should be 3rd if they are so far behind?
By:
Mourinho is yesterday’s man but it would be so, so Arsenal to go for a manager where they didn’t have to pay a release fee.
By:
Emery to me is totally clueless. How he got PSG and AFC jobs i'll never know.
Most of us clamoured to get rid of Wenger for a few years and quite rightly so. But i guess nobody called for UE to be the new manager. We must have a fairly high profile boss to take over when Emery does leave. |
By:
I think we are crying out for a manager *like* Mourinho to sort out our defence and make us capable of going 2goals up and feel comfortable for the first time in 10+ years. The problem with him is he has too much baggage, tends to make it all about him which is not Arsenal and would be a hugely divise figure for the fanbase in a stadium which already has a toxic atmosphere. He is never a long-term appointment (which isn't necessarily a bad thing in our case) and would stunt the progress of the youngsters (none of whom are good enough to be starting at a club as big as Arsenal from what I've seen, but Martinelli looks like he will be very shortly).
I think Benitez would bring all the benefits Mourinho would without all the negatives and the fanbase would unite behind him. A much better fit. Really don't get all the fans wanting Arteta - he is not going to sort out the defence. I don't understand why he is held in such high regard by the fans either. He was a meek, weak, sideways-passing midfielder who was afraid to get stuck-in in midfield and not a leader and epitomises all that was wrong about Arsenal when he was there. If it wasn't for Xhaka he'd be the worst captain we've had in my lifetime. And he's totally inexperienced, as is Ljungberg. I don't think we should be taking a punt on a manager with no track record but I get the impression that Freddie would sort out a lot of our weaknesses as he knows what prime Arsenal were all about and I'm sure he'd look at this squad and want to make wholesale changes. Whether he'd do it well is a serious gamble and not one I think we should take. |

Arsenal 11 17
Sheff Utd 11 16 B'mouth 11 16 Brighton 11 15 C Palace 10 15 Give him 'UNtil Christmas' Lol wtf is that about - get rid NOW FFS ! |

Arsenal should phone China and get Benitez. Their season finishes in a few weeks aswell.
A very good manager. |
By:
Benitez is on something like £12m after tax in China and has 2 years left on his contract. Highly unlikely unless he absolutely hates it over there.
By:
I'd take Rafa no problem.

No progress being made. I suspect the Emery era is nearing closure. Not sure who will be given the reigns, long term maybe Vieira ? Has done ok at Nice. Not a great side and limited on what their expectation is with PSG so dominant in the french league. He will get these boys playing and has a very strong personality plus has Arsenal in his blood
By:
The Lampard appointment seems to be working for Chelski ??
By:
Of all the potential viable alternatives to Emery I much prefer the Vieira one.
No language barriers, No misunderstanding what the manager wants and he will have the respect of all that are there already. Yep. He is the one for me |
By:
Odds currently available 6/1 powers.
By:
Newspaper opinion is that he will be given the rest of the season with contract not being renewed, unless something disastrous happens in the meantime. That is par for the course for a Board obsessed with saving money. Leicester would be doing us a huge favour if they thump us at the weekend.
By:
They will be to strong for us atm i fear with the tactically inept Emery calling the shots
By:
As it stands and how we are playing our only hope of Champions League football next season is through the Europa League
By:
That route is difficult as many of the teams who reach the latter stages will fancy there chances against our current set up.
By:
We are 6 points off 4th and will prob be 9 next weekend (Leicester away, Chesea have Palace at home). Then there's an international break, when managerial changes quite often happen. I think we gambled a lot of money on getting 4th this year as a lot of the Summer deals are paid in instalments and this will affect what we can spend in future windows if we don't get CL. That is on Raul and he must be feeling pressure to make a change but of course it will be the US mugs who make a decision like that.
Watch Bayern go out and get Allegri or a big established name with no fuss, a big club mentality. They probably already have an agreement with someone and that will prob mean one of our better options will be gone. Then you have the likes of Spurs and even Man U who could change manager this season and they might get some of the other options we have in before we do. Good managers don't come along very often and we potentially missed out on 2 gems in Klopp and Pep by sticking with Wenger far too long. We were left with a fairly crap shortlist last time and got a dud. Vieira another relatively inexperienced manager who has spent big this summer and underperformed so far this season. Let him get more experience and prove himself and he might be one for the future but I'd prefer a proven top level manager than taking a punt on a former player just because he knows the club. Why can't we show a big club mentality for once? We've got rid of our Woodward and now have two football men running the club so I'd be hopeful that a shrewder and more ruthless decision will be made this time. |
By:
Looking at how much trouble Soyuncu and Evans caused Palace from set-pieces yesterday, they must be a good bet to score against us. Emery will probably have Bellerin and Torreira marking them at corners.
By:
Just looked and Leicester are odds against (2.14) to beat us at home. They trounced us last year and look stronger all over the pitch. Will have a look at their prices on the handicap at that rate.
By:
2.14 seems long to me, lurka, can only see that one going one way....
It's open season on the manager now, which will only serve to destabilise the team further. We definitely lack a ruthless streak in terms of managerial changes. I know it's to our credit that we are not a sacking club, but you also have to be big enough to hold your hands up when you've made a mistake, which happened when Rioch was replaced. Simply cannot see Emery taking the team forward and some of the displays have been immeasurably worse than anything served up under late-era Wenger. Of the names being bandied around, Mourinho's is the one that troubles me most. Latterly, he hasn't left a club in a better position than when he arrived. |
By:
Emery now outright favourite in 'next manager to leave' market. In fact, that's more likely to happen than the team winning at Leicester, according to the markets.
By:
Xhaka stripped of the captaincy and Auba the new captain. Great to see. Wonder how that decision was arrived at exactly? Auba is stalling on a new deal and reportedly will want to leave if we don't get CL this year and I wouldn't blame him. We will have to sell him in the Summer as he will be a free agent in Summer 2021. Yet another reason to give Emery the bullet ASAP.
By:
Not a great lover of forwards being captain, but in our current situation, beggars can't be choosers
By:
You'd think he might need a win and put out a strong side today. He obviously needs to avoid embarrassment on Saturday. Will Leicester do us all a favour?
I am not one to knock a manager. These particular players should be good enough to perform but Emery does not seem to have the players. Players do need direction and he is not providing it. The next manager should be asked what his plans are to deal with the problem Arsenal have had since around 2006 and what personnel he has in mind to deal with it. That answer should be given in public before he is hired. I generally think football fans are pretty stupid people with ignorant opinions and blinkered views. It has been obvious to me that almost every Arsenal fan has known where the deficiencies in the side have been since around 2006 namely a World Class centre forward, a snappy and tenacious defensive midfielder and a beast of a centre back. Arsenal are not that far off in my opinion. They need a leader badly too. Someone on the radio mentioned Tierney. I would go along with that as he might prove inspirational. The new manager needs to get his defence to show as much charity to Ebeneezer Scrooge. How many goals have Arsenal conceded from goal kicks this season? If Arsenal were the biggest team in the old Communist East I think Emery would have been put against the wall, truly shocking at the moment and the thing is I repeat the personnel gaps are being filled. Arseanl are only two or three players away from being able to put up a challenge. |
By:
Not sure what formation he’s going with here...looks like a 343
Martinez Sokratis Holding Mustafi Maitland Ceballos Willock Tyranny Pepe Fartinelli Saka But could be a 3421 with Pepe & Saka deeper..a 352 with Saka in a 3 man mid and Pepe up front with Fartinelli Or a back back 4 with Mustafi at right back and Maitland in midfield. Anyways...let’s see if the players figure out what he wants |
By:
PS...knowing our luck...Wenger will be the new Bayern boss, Xhaka will be his first signing in January and he dies fir them what Vieira did for us all those years ago when he made his debut for Arsene.

Another shocking performance. Individually and as a team- he's got to go. Another lead thrown away.
