i fancy us against united, the PSG result was excellent, but they have a history of bottling games, they never really turned up and looked at the united team and thought, piece of piss...we had the same sort of result against Bayern munich a few years ago but just missed out.
Uniteds last league game was a struggle against a very average southampton, so i think people are going overboard about the united result. |

A history of bottling games ?, lol how can arsenal accuse anybody of bottling it

How many of us thought the game would finish 2-1 last night?
The third felt inevitable. We are, at times, an absolute shambles. No bottle at all. Rennes are a rank average side. A decent side would have won that 2-0 last night. Absolutely pathetic. |
|
By:
arsenal will smash rennes in the next game, its funny old game, wasn't confident of them winning last night,
man utd should prove to be very difficult opponents on the weekend, they are on a roll right now, no doubt about that, there will be a few goals imo, its possible man u will under perform, just gotta hope arsenal can out score them. the dropped 2 points last week was a massive blunder for their top 4 chances. |

Arsenal dropped 2 points against Spurs. Rennes are a decent side and you'd have to fancy them to score in the 2nd leg. We have too many stupid players to ever be solid enough. You have to question Emery as well, he took Ozil and Auba off and played with no striker, then we give away the third goal from an advanced position in their half, leaving ourselves wide open to a counter-attack. He removed any attacking threat and relied upon our mug defence.
There is no sense of what is expected of you when wearing the Arsenal shirt and what sort of idiotic behaviour is unacceptable. Contrast with Solskjaer who has instilled exactly that in the Man U players. |
|
By:
He took Auba off because Auba doesn't understand the offside rule and was wasting their attacks, I lost count of the number of times he was caught mistiming his runs by the linesman.
There wasn't much of a problem til Sokratis was sent off, their crowd was one of the best I've seen in Europe and no doubt carried them and gave them that extra % you can't find on your own, my overall impression was they were greater than the sum of their parts, will be a different story second leg, pretty sure Arsenal will turn them over. They lost 2-0 away to Astana in the earlier rounds and 3-1 to Kiev, they beat Betis however though a similar level team. A 2-0 win is not really an insurmountable task. |
|
By:
I think we will progress in the Europa as I do not think Rennes are a quality side and could easily see us putting 3-5 past them at home.
Looking at the fixture list for the FOUR sides competing for the 2 CL places (Whisper's bet looking very solid now)we have the best looking and regardless of what may happen any of the other sides would swap their fixture list with ours all day long. So for me any positive result tomorrow is OK. A win would be massive but a draw would give us a real opportunity and if we fail with our fixtures then we deserve nothing from the season. They each have to play 2 games against top 6 opposition and we are done with them. I'd take a draw from the Man U game as though it may not look it at the moment, it would be a better draw for us than them imo, all things considered. |

The pressure is building for all 4 sides. We saw what happened to Spurs yesterday. Plenty of points will be dropped by each of the top four chasing sides and Jimenez has just scored for Wolves! Hows yer luck?
Spurs and Chelsea both now 1.7 ish for top 4. Manure and Arsenal are looking better bets to me. Spuds could just disintegrate fwiw falling between stools. They are so thin with injuries. Whatever happens it will be exciting and for Arsenal fans very disappointing at times! I am not sure about Emery at all. |

Arsenal team to play Man Utd: Leno,Maitland-Niles, Sokratis, Koscielny, Monreal, Xhaka, Ramsey, Aubameyang, Ozil, Kolasinac, Lacazette.
Subs: Cech, Mustafi, Elneny, Guendouzi, Suarez, Iwobi, Nketiah. |
|
By:
That is an odd looking side again.
|

By:
Southampton and Wolves have done us a favour- let's hope we don't f..k it up ourselves now. Draw would be very handy a win huge given the other two's result.
|
|
By:
If this is 3 at the back Ramsey is gona have to be very disciplined which is not something I usually trust him on. If this is a 433 then we will be really open.
|

Arsenal looking well placed for a top 4 finish now. It will be a real scrap. There is a small calm before the storm. I think most teams have relatively easy games until
31st March 14th April 20th April 24th April then the phoney war begins again with " on paper " easier matches for the last 3 games. |
|
By:
spuds away pool and city
Chel away pool and Man u Man u home chel and city We have given ourselves a real chance for top 3 which would be a massive bonus in Emery's 1st season |
|
By:
That was pleasing.
Full credit to Leno - I was critical of him but he's been very good of late. Why are we so bad away from home when at the Emirates we're pretty much unbeatable? We need to show more grit when we're away - if we pull ourselves together we could yet finish top 4 and even have a good crack at winning the Europa League, but we MUST address this away form. |
|
By:
Great result and looking good after today but incredibly lucky to get the win, could have lost by two on a different day.
Wouldn't say we have easier fixtures as 5 of them are away and 2 are on Monday nights. 8 points from those 5 would be about average for how we've done away from home against non top 6 sides so far. But all the sides we've beaten away were bottom half and 3 of the 5 left are top half sides. 3 of our 5 away wins came against the bottom 3. The away performances and results need to improve a lot, none of those fixtures look easy. |

Niles was superb !

|
By:
Should have got a result away to Chels, drew with MU & them down the road. We can do it away but clearly we need to be consistent for the remaining ones. Everton away looks the toughest game on paper maybe Watford could be argued. They are certainly easier than city and pool away !

Give Dick another two transfer windows, and if Silent comes up with some cash, it could get better
|

By:
I think it will. I have looked at some of his team selections with wide eyed amazement on more than one occasion. He picks players to fit a particular plan and even when it looks odd on the team sheet he sets them up in such a way that it is coming off much more often than not. Time and money and we will have a competitive squad and a manager that has shown he can out-think his foes.
|
|
By:
Wolves away looks toughest to me, then Watford. Both are higher than Everton with better home records.
|

Please get Auba off taking the pens. Don't think my heart can take many more.

Just watching the match on catch-up. Apart from Bogart and Bergman in Casablanca, no couple can ever have reminisced so fondly and so often about Paris as Martin Tyler and Gary Neville.
Sorry but I read this and had to post it! |

easy win tonight
must of been lot of money for arsenal when they drifted after the 1st leg matchin france , they are now the best backed team on betfair for the europa league cup |

Missed chances made it harder than it should have been. Good win when you're 3-1 down from the 1st leg !

Arsenal
Benfica Chelsea Eintracht Frankfurt Napoli Slavia Prague Valencia Villarreal Is there country protection? No. This will be an open draw in which no teams are seeded and clubs from the same national association can be drawn against each other. Any restrictions will be announced ahead of the draw. The side drawn first will play the first leg at home. What about the semi-final draw? Unlike previous seasons, the route to the final will be mapped out at this stage. After the quarter-final draw there is a semi-final draw too, followed by a draw to determine the 'home' team in the final for administrative reasons. |

Not a bad draw for Arsenal. A short flight. Good opposition who are not as good as they were. It will be tough for Arsenal but they have a good size squad and depth to deal with this tie.
Spurs are having a mare. I might have liked them to get into the semi's to pile on the fixture congestion and injuries but three games against citeh will take their toll physically and hopefully emotionally! IMHO Spurs in danger of finishing outside top 4 if manure get themselves together. The question is can Arsenal play away from home? |

Napoli are not a great side and we will get through I believe.
Their supporters can be absolute scum (those that simply support their club are quality though) attacking a cafe ffs last time we met them in a competitive game. I think we have hit form at the right time. We have players busting a gut to get into the side, look fresh, have rotated regularly and I think when needed we will raise our game in some tough-ish looking away games in the league. Niles, Kolasinac, Mikhitayan, Iwobi and even Xhaka have raised their games substantially of late and Koscielny has come back from a shaky beginning to looking commanding alongside Sokratis and Monreal. Then add Ozil's improved displays, Ramsey seems to be in the best form for many a season - we are in great shape imo. -------------------------------------------------------------------- 11 v 11 I think they could compete with City over the 2 legs. But as you point out they will have 3 games against them and Pool away thrown in for good measure and a very congested looking fixture pile up. They have got Kane and Ali back which will obviously help them but their bench has looked pretty average (being kind there!)of late and at a time when the demands are at the most telling it will be very hard for their squad to cope. I'd have to say if they manage to end the season well they will deserve anything they get out of it because a case for missing out on all fronts could be made. Their top 11 are good enough for sure to give City problems in the league game and CL. They HAVE to raise their game, game after game, and on balance I think it is more likely they miss out on both. |
|
By:
Just a thought: If you are Poch' and you know you are going to leave fairly soon, to get a really big club you might well prioritise the CL over top 4 as even getting to the final would be an eye catcher.
His team selection for the Brighton game could reflect his intentions as it comes on the 7th April and City on the 9th ! Brighton can be very obdurate. Stick or twist ? |
|
By:
According to newspaper rumours, Emery is already
fed up with (Denis )the wrong) Suarez & will be returning him back to Barcelona at the end of the season |
|
By:
Since Kane's return 5 games ago, he's played 90 mins in all 5 games, scored 4 or 100% of Spurs goals and they've only picked up 1 point in 12 (against us), winning the Dortmund game. They were scoring more freely and conceding less without him and it's their defence which has let them down, not his absence, with some tougher fixtures coming up.
There's been no change in our form. We've been magnificent at home all season and abysmal away all season. Awful performances esp away to Bate and Rennes. Only beaten Hudderfield away and picked up 6 of last 24 away points. No basis for assuming we'll raise our game in tough away fixtures, the toughest 3 on weeknights while we still have big Thursday night games and will have to rest some players. It's more likely that Spurs will get their form back than we start performing away from home. Whether Burnley need a result to stay up on the last day will be a big factor too. I don't think we'll need as many points as some might think are needed for 4th but will be more reliant on Spurs/Man U/Chelsea not picking up as many as expected either. Napoli away will prob be the toughest of all our games. |
|
By:
They have 3 games v City - 2 of which are away. Away to Pool also. They have collapsed season after season when pressure is applied so I think it is legitimate to say the same will happen again. It may not of course but history says it will.
We are improving with a fresh and hungry looking squad, at the right time to be so. We will beat Newc they will lose to pool Do you agree ? |
|
By:
Yeah reckon we'll beat Newc and Pool should beat Spurs. They could fall away after the CL games and City away but I'd be worried about the Watford, Wolves and Leicester away games. Palace at home could be tricky too as they are better away from home and it comes less than 3 days after the trip to Napoli.
Not so sure we've improved really, we've just had a few good results at home which we've done all season. Thought we were blessed to beat Man U and that wasn't a great performance, could have lost that by 2 on another day. The away games will decide it and I haven't seen any improvement there yet. Played well against Spurs but really let them off the hook when they were in poor form and the performances against Bate and Rennes were worse than usual. |
|
By:
Confidence plays a big part and The Big Mo is with Arsenal. Should they win or or two more games the pressure will be big on spurs and Manure coming into the weekend of 20th April.
The exciting factor is Aresenal are so unpredictable or rather they seem to have become predictable! Aresenal really should gave more than the teams beneath them but you just cannot count on them away from home. I Ashley take a positive view because they have eyes on the prize now. I hope to recoup some money on Arsenal winning awa the definition of madness need not apply! . |
|
By:
4 points from the two games was what most Arsenal supporters thought (prior to th egames) would be an excellent return. We got the 3 points from Manu and pundits can talk all day long about how well they played- they went home with nil points and that is the bottom line.
I am absolutely certain we have improved. We are a far better side than last season and as every week passes Emery is learning more and more about his players. To evidence this, as they say- the league doesn't lie. They could prove me wrong of course but, as Whisp' states, the momentum is with us and it is in our hands now. Add that to the form of some of our players- I would think we are best placed for 3rd let alone 4th. . |
|
By:
Of course we've improved from last season. We are 12 points better off after 30 games. I'm talking about our current form and don't really see it as us having improved in that time despite picking up points in the league. It was the same when we went on that run after the first two games when we had easier away games against bottom half sides and everything we hit was going in the net.
I mentioned the Man U game because our performance is not evidence that we're improving at all. Two very lucky goals and poor defending where they should have scored at least two. Likewise Bate and Rennes away. We need to improve a lot still to pick up points in these away games, esp defensively, ie the improvement hasn't happened yet is my point. |
|
By:
The improvement is ongoing and is visible imo. Man u may have scored 2 or even 3- we had other chances also so could have had 4 or 5 - none of that matters at this stage of the season, only points. We have gears to go up and I believe we will step up to the mark. Newc is a huge game and if we are sitting in 3rd after it the boost to the squad could be telling.
In any case we are way ahead of expectations for this season with what Emery has done and he is improving the side incrementally game by game (with blips yes)so top 4 and/or winning the europa would be a great start to his tenure. |
