Wes... How many starts this season ? LOL... Nowhere near enough sadly and it shows !!!!

Blackrock ... I would expect Ramsey to be a big success @ Juve and will win more silverware there for sure.

Emp.. That was just an example. I think many of you underestimate him. Lets see how we get on replacing him ???

Still its all about opinion. Should have got rid of Ozil ages ago. Biggest bluffer for many a day. I wonder if one of the stats men could drag up some numbers on his performances in meaningful games ?

Last night showed exactly where we are at right now. Not looking good is it. Have we made any real progress in the overall scheme of things ?

Yes could have done with an average player like Ramsey last night! Somebody who might move the ball forward and get forward himself.

Could have done with Ramsey or Ozil last night, would be an improvemnt on Mhiki and Iwobi. No creativity in that midfield. Should start playing Ramsey every week and get some value for his wages at least. No point in dropping him any more.

It was shocking stuff alright. Either Ramsey or Ozil would have been an improvement last night but that fact is even more worrying because where does that leave us NOW ? Both have no future at the club and our current midfield look unable to impact on the attacking side. Mhikhitaryan should probably get his preferred role in the 10 position. I have no doubt we will progress to the next round though.
Our new signing; if he can't force his way into this dodge-pot of a side he has no future in football let alone with us.

Whatever Ramsey does at Juve (and good luck to him) it won't prove anything imho. Sanchez was given a free role and looked a world beater (Wenger done this to many an otherwise decent standard player). His Chilean countrymen demanded he leave and go to a 'bigger club'. Well he did and cannot get into the team under 2 managers. Juve look a cut above in Italy and Ramsey will likely get goals if given his head. All that aside he is not world class ( we appear to lack even one atm, though LT has potential to be one) and was not worth the money it would have taken to keep him.
Emery is in danger of getting himself into real bother much sooner than one might have expected as he is making very big calls and they are not coming off AT ALL.

Agree with you enpassant. It's alright making those calls when you are a on a long winning run as we were earlier in the season (though we were very fortunate in some of those games). You are hailed as something of a genius. When you leave out two of your most creative players and turn in a display like that, questions are rightly asked.

I don't hold your level of optimism that we'll actually turn this round. Leak a goal (which is more than likely) and we'll have it all to do. Having said that, the last manager beat this lot 10-2 over two games last season and we all know that he was totally hopeless, so it should be an absolute breeze.

Emery's press conference afterwards was interesting. One of his quotes was: "We worked. I am happy with the players as we worked and we tried." This is really alarming. I'm just hoping that he's shrewd enough to realise that calling out your players after a display like that is counter-productive (cf Sarri, Mourinho), and he is actually telling the players something completely different (i.e. the truth) at the training ground.

The early season optimism seems to have been washed away.

It's not time to judge Emery, that will come in 12months time. I'm hoping he'll show the door to a few of the usual culprits who have let us down so often, I'm thinking Mustafi and Xhaka especially. Both players cost a fortune and, other than glimpses of quality, have been poor.

How many players can put their hand on their hearts and say they've played to their potential? I like Sokratis, Lacazette tries hard, Torreira was exceptional but has dropped off since Christmas. Aubemeyang is good but inconsistent and then the likes of Bellerin and Koscielny have one good game followed by one bad one.

There's very little to be optimistic about really. We're absolutely miles off the top three teams, and things are going to take a hell of a long time to change.

To be fair to Emery...Bellerin, Holding and Welbeck were huge losses.

Granted Welbeck isn’t a starter but he provided an excellent option / outlet that’s no longer available. I’m sure Unai would’ve warmed to his work rate.

Losing Sokratis for the last month or so has just compounded the situation.

Plus...Mustafi and Xhaka are pitiful. Unai had no chance vs United in the Cup when those two ended as centre halves.

Any side would struggle with those two clowns in their side. Shockingly awful the pair of them.

Quite pleased with some of our efforts this season and we’ll be better next season after a clear out.

2-0 and a fair performance overall. Decent going forward (pretty average finishing though) but shaking as-per-usual at the back. I ought to say (since I am not a fan) that Xhaka had a decent game. Iwobi showed again there is a player in there, if he could just hold his confidence and concentration ( the letter would help the former).
4th place with 11 games to go suggests the league is a poor one again as we have plenty of room for improvement and in a good season we would be sitting in a 'going nowhere' 6th. Bournemouth, spuds, Man Utd then we have a far from daunting run in. If we are still 4/5th after these games we will be right in the mix....which would be ahead of schedule for Emery in my estimation.
By:

When: 25 Feb 19 11:18
Surprised to be 4th, tbh. I expect to lose to Spuds. United worked us out in the FA Cup, so I'd like to see a different approach in that match. Run-in looks OK, but away form does need to improve dramatically. Away to Leicester, Everton, Watford and Burnley look OK on paper, but I think we'll drop points in those games. I always have an uneasy feeling that a performance like the ones away at West Ham or BATE are just around the corner.
I agree with you that Emery is ahead of schedule.

The NLD could go anyway at all- we are just as likely to win it as lose it imo. Utd will be less tense but for me more interesting.  It will be a huge game in terms of top 4 and we are a decent side at home. I was not bothered about getting knocked out of the fa cup and believe this will be a different game altogether.
I think Emery may be settled back to where he began with Lacca nd PEA ie only one will be in from the start which gives the side more balance and a very, very good sub on the bench. This looks to have improved us over the last few games and if we can kick on and say get somewhere around 5 or above points from the next 3 games we will be in business until the end of the season.

I have a decent sized win bet on Arsenal finishing in the top 4, over 4 figures! Manure and Tottingham coming up. There is a supremely longshot at spuds finishing outside the top 4. They have to play 4 of the top 6 I think. Not saying they won't finish 3rd but it would help me reverse out of a losing bet. I am 1.38 lay Spurs top 4. There is a good chance I can get out of that but I have Chelski as cover should Spurs finish well. So all the money is on Arsenal effectively. Man u are a better team and should finish top 4 too but they have a number of top sides to play too.

Good luck fella. Got to hope the perennial chokers go full spursy from here on in - lest we forget on the last day of the season they were up against 10 man Newcastle and got thrashed !
A loss to Chels will have their Rsoles going into hyperdrive.

Arsenal team to play Bournemouth: Leno, Jenkinson, Sokratis, Koscielny, Monreal, Torreira, Guendouzi, Mkhitaryan, Ozil, Kolasinac, Aubameyang.

Subs: Cech, Mustafi, Suarez, Iwobi, Elneny, Ramsey, Lacazette.

Arsenal must win for me as I have money on a Top 4 finish and games against Manure and Spuds next!

Not sure who I want to win from Spuds and Chelski. Probably Chelsjki as they will self impload and imho likely finsh 6th. Again I am not saying Tottingham will not finish turd but a wobble now to bring that gap down to one game will bring prices of us and them closer to parity and also put them under pressure for the rest of the season. To go from potential title winners to 5th would be an absolute calamity and of course great fun for all!

tbf though Arsenal don't look like a top 4 side

Chelsea have Pool and Utd away.

Chels throw the towel in away from home a bit like us under Wenger. They will be dreading us turning up next- the fear of losing that game will hopefully be crippling for them!
A win and we will get top 4 imo. A draw would not be a terrible result at all now considering our fixtures compared to the teams around us.

On a more sober note, and to add a little balance, Bournemouth's goal was the 1,000th we have conceded in Premier League history and we're the eighth team to achieve that notable milestone. Must do better.
By:
the fink sisters
When: 28 Feb 19 11:32
It's actually a pretty meaningless statistic. The teams that are going to concede most premiership goals are inevitably the ones who are in the premiership for the most amount of time and there are only six who have contested all 27 Premier League seasons.

Good to see Oz back last night, we were good in parts. We're still not great at the back and our away form is depressingly inconsistent. We generally lose when we play anyone good away from home, so even allowing for the fact that Spuds have lost two (difficult fixtures imho) in a row, I still make them strong favourites on Saturday. But it's a derby, and as I've said on here before, it's the hope that kills you.

A poser for all the optimists on here.

Our remaining away fixtures are:

Spuds
Wolves
Leicester
Watford
Burnley
Everton

What do people on here think would be an acceptable return on those fixtures? I personally think we'll lose at least three of them. Perhaps two wins and a draw. Cannot therefore see us getting Top 4, though I'm very half-empty and would love to be proved wrong.

star player ozil for the run-in, 4th spot will be deemed a very successful season, something arsene wenger

as for the away games - the confidence or lack of we get from the next 2 will dictate the remainder of the season. If it is in our hands I could see us not losing any of the above.

I fear what Spurs may do to us but hope that fear turned on them after losing two in a row. The pressure or reality of finding out you are not a contender but are fighting with the also rans for 4th place is sobering. I don't want to get too enthusiastic because a let down feels not far away but we have two good forwards and a couple of good going forward midfielders and a couple of good holding midfielders. There should be enough there to remain in the fight. My main hope of course is for the others to die the death of a thousand cuts or rather having to play Scouse and Mancs. I think Chelsea and Spurs play both off the top of my head so all is not lost over the next few days.
