Good win last night but by no means game over.

I was looking at Emery's Away record in league games in the last few years, needs to more emphasis on clean sheets away.

napoli want stop arsenal scoring in the next leg, the tie is over as far as im concerned.
By:
Tie should be over but isn't. Our central midfielders were the main attacking threat last night but still should have got 3 or 4, they could have got 1 or 2 as well.
Don't see any basis for assuming Arsenal will perform well away from home. Bate, Rennes, Everton are recent evidence of that. What evidence is there to assume they will perform away against a decent side? Napoli may not have to do much to stop Arsenal scoring if they put in a performance like Everton. |
By:
Very handy to not concede. Lessons need to be taken heed of from recent history of our away performances but all told I think Napoli are not up to the hype of the pundits. It may be that they had an off night but I think we will go through.
By:
considering he rested his best team against everton, including that as example of their poor record away doesnt hold upto to scrutiny, emery needs to set up the team to outscore them in the next leg, that will be the key to going through.

Torreira makes a huge difference: his covering the backline, his terrier-like tackling and harrassing, his quick accurate passing- huge misses when he is not in the side.

Arsenal beat Sporting Lisbon away 0-1 this season, a few months before Sporting had beating Atletico 1-0 at home, also beat AC Milan 0-2 at the San Siro last season, Napoli are a step up from both but from what I saw last night they're not much to worry about, 1 goal and Napoli will need 4, can't see Arsenal not getting 1 at least, they miss Jorginho and Sarri, for as much as they're not highly regarded in England, they suited Napoli. Rennes' was a bad loss but really Arsenal should clearly have ran riot early on but didn't take opportunities, then Sokratis was sent off and it changed the game, Rennes scored 1 minute later, then an own goal and a late 3rd, turning them over second leg wasn't that big a worry.
Napoli do have a very good record at home but they were turned over 1-3 by Leipzig last season, don't think the ground is one of the more intimidated places either, it's one of those stadia's with an Athletics track running round it, much different when fans are right on top of you. |

Getting a bit ahead of myself here, but does anyone know what will happen to the Brighton game on May 4th should we get to the semi of the EL? Arsenal website confirms the Leicester game will be moved, but nothing about the Brighton game.
By:
I don't know but I'm assuming the Leicester game will be moved back 1 day and the Brighton game will be moved forward 1 day so the fixtures would then look like this
24/04 - Wolves (a) 28/04 - Leicester City (a)... (rather than 29th?) 02/05 - Europa League semi-final first leg 05/05 - Brighton & Hove Albion (h).... (rather than 4th?) 09/05 - Europa League semi-final second leg 12/05 - Burnley (a) So they'd have 4 days to prepare for both legs maybe. |
By:
Thanks - that makes sense.
The Arsenal website has the following message for the Leicester game - 'In the event that we reach the Europa League semi-finals, this match will be rescheduled to Sunday 28 April 12pm' But no message for the Brighton game - strange...... Will try and call the box office during the week to see what they say. |

Team selection tonight will tell us a lot about Emery's thinking.
By:
Team to play Watford: Leno, Koscielny, Mavropanos, Mustafi, Monreal, Ramsey, Torreira, Xhaka, Iwobi, Mkhitaryan, Aubameyang
Subs: Cech, Elneny, Lacazette, Ozil, Maitland-Niles, Guendouzi, Kolasinac |

Rested both wing-backs ! 451 it looks like.

Every battle is important! Thank God Watford may have one eye on Wembley if they are not fighting for places on the the day!
More like Dick Emery. What a team selection! One win puts the pressure on all those around! |
By:
It's probably a team to battle it out with Watford, at least for the first hour or so. A draw is no disaster here but a win would be massive.

22 points off top spot

That performance was worse than Everton.
By:
Yep but 3 points is 3 points. Don't know why anyone expects an away performance better than that from Arsenal at this stage
By:
lurka 100% correct.

With 2 home wins we would will need something like 4 points from our 3 away games to make top 4- who wouldn't have taken that at the start of the season ?
By:
Yep it will be a great achievement to make top 4 with our squad no matter how. Re the away form there are some who think the Napoli tie is over. You have to expect a much better away performance than the evidence suggests for that to be the case. In particular our attacking players have gone missing in almost every away game this year. Auba and Lacazette have 1 goal each this year away from home. The team has scored 6 in 8 away this year ignoring the Blackpool cup game.
By:
Our away form is not bad, its abject.
Absolute rubbish at Everton, and with Watford gifting us a goal and Deeney getting sent off - we still struggled to get over the line. I don't know why we are so poor away from home, but getting past Napoli isn't a foregone conclusion. |
By:
another poor away performance on monday, hope the players dont embarrass the club and throw -in the towel on thursday, if they do, they will only have themselves to blame COYG'S
By:
More evidence that we can perform away from home. We were told again and again that Napoli were a class act and would knock us out of this comp and we beat them home and away without conceding and without fuss.
By:
We look a completely different side when we don't start with Mustafi, Ozil and Mkhitaryan. I wasn't waiting for any kind of wobble to happen tonight - we defended well and looked ready to get involved when tempers flared. If we can weed the week players (like the above 3) out over the summer, then I think we'll start getting somewhere......

"Arsenal now have conceded just one goal in the past seven matches across all competitions:
Arsenal 2-0 Man United Arsenal 3-0 Rennes Arsenal 2-0 Newcastle Everton 1-0 Arsenal Arsenal 2-0 Napoli Watford 0-1 Arsenal Napoli 0-1 Arsenal" |

Final home game v Brighton - now confirmed as 4.30pm kick off on Sunday May 5th - live on Sky.
By:
Crunch game is v Wolves I think. Get a win there and St Totteringham Day is back!
Don't think many points will be dropped. Manure v Chelski on 28th April, Manure v Citeh on 24th April will probably decide it for Arsenal but Everton away may well be tricky for Manure. 76 might be enough points for Arsenal by default but see no reason why they cannot go on and dominate. |
By:
Squarely on Emery's shoulders today. Took a massive liberty with team selection and got stung. Threw away 3 points for what ?

Mustafi at fault for all 3 goals. Marking Benteke for the first and lets him run into the 6 yard box unchallenged for a free header. Woeful for the second. Marking McArthur for he third and runs away from him leaving him unchallenged for a free header in the 6 yard box.

St Totteringham Day
![]() The Manager needs shooting. Mustafi and El Ninny, why? Play your best team. Play your best team. Play your best team. Each game is a battle. There will be casualties on the way but easier for players to come into a settled side and stand up to the plate. The writing was on the wall about Palce being effective away from home when Zaha is playing and Benteke scores his first goal in a year sums it up. Sun Tzu would shoot his General, rightly! You can't blame some players for being sheite when we already know they are. |
By:
It was Jenkinspn that played Benteke onside. You can't blame Mustafi for that. The third goal was again an offside trap that was not played by 3 players. That is simple organisation stuff. Why they hung around watching like spectators when they should have been running out (just like Lacca did!)is again down to training. Mustafi was shocking, utterly shocking for their 2nd goal but not the other 2.
