Can anyone explain what the strict conditions imposed on sex offenders are in relation to general lags? As someone said earlier it would be pretty easy to agree that all parties would seem to benefit from an EU based move.
Is it just a situation where the DoJ would refuse permission continually until the case reached a judicial review? Effectively rendering any challenge pointless? |

By this line of reasoning a housebreaker should be found not guilty if the house he robbed wasn't adequately protected.
|
|
By:
so you don't think we are responsible for our own actions? Has the Club owner or Barstaff been indicted for aiding and abetting the rape? The Licensee holds a licence to ensure proper and decent behaviour and drink consumation. Let us share the blame with everybody bar the victim!

there's no point re-trying the rights and wrongs. That all happened 5+ years ago and he has served the sentence handed down.
the question is: what does he do now? and how as a society should we treat him? imho, and a not very well informed one, is that he should have the same rights as anyone else (within the limits set by his parole terms) to work. The fact that he is a footballer is irrelevant |
|
By:
Of course we should take precautions to protect ourselves but if a crime is committed then it is the perpetrator who is culpable not the victim even if they may have been negligent in protecting themselves.
|
|
By:
....and any drunks having their wallets nicked are asking for it too
follow a drunk home, help yourself to his house contents its his fault |
|
By:
I asked why people think he has the right to earn his living as a footballer. Obviously, I accept he has the right in law; what I don't accept is that he should expect to be treated as though nothing has changed from his time at Sheffield Utd.

How James? A burglar illegally enters,or without permission to steal so there is intent to steal. If she had stopped drinking then she wouldn't have placed herself in danger. If a burglar entered my house he wouldn't leave without something metal in him, even if he apologised I'd take my chances in court.

By:
donny osmond if that is the state you want to get yourself in then sorry I have no sympathy. You have put yourself in the frame.Newslash; there are many unscrupulous and unsavoury characters out there in society. Devils advocate then,if you are that drunk you are beyond capable what if drunkenly stumble and miss a step or fall into the road causing a car to swerve or crash into you (how injured you are to my mind is irrelevant but what about damage to the vehicle or further crash victims in the car, pedestrians or other traffic?) It may be extreme but it happens.
|
|
By:
So if the burglar entered your house while you were drunk and you weren't able to defend yourself then good luck to the burglar as that was your fault for getting drunk?
|
|
By:
Some of the replies on here blaming the victim for what happened beggar believe. There is a very clear line between seeing a woman who is drunk, whether it's slightly tipsy or unconscious, and deciding to rape her - that is what Evans has been convicted of, after a police investigation, the evidence was presented at trial, and a jury considered that evidence.
If I had a daughter, I'd be telling her to be aware of the dangers of drinking too much, to not walk home alone etc etc. But if I had a son, I'd be telling him that however drunk a woman is, it doesn't give you the right to rape her. There should be less emphasis on teaching women not to drink too much and more on teaching men not to rape. |

in the sanctity or safety of your home you can do no more to ensure your safety bar not leave a lit **** on the go,the grill on or attempt to wobble up the stairs.

Hard to believe that he threw her over his shoulder, put her in a taxi, carried her up to his hotel room past hotel reception and raped her.
She decided to go back to his hotel room and must have walked there. Did she think she was going there to play monopoly? Bit like walking up the back alleys in the Bronx expecting not to be mugged or shot - you avoid at all costs. Not condoning rapists in any way but only the 2 parties know what happened. |

he invited my mate in for a drink, i got the key from a neighbour, my mate had spilt some stuff so i cleaned it up
he saw me picking up his valuables but didnt object as i filled my boots i left via the fire escape ive done nothing wrong as he was drunk its his fault |
|
By:
Westender - no-one has ever said that's what happened, and she's doesn't argue (I believe) that she went there unwillingly; but it wasn't with Evans, who arrived later, it was with the guy who was acquitted.
|
|
By:
Known a mate who has woken up to a few horrors in the morning and always he says what on earth made me sha g that FFS. Why did you c- unts not stop me going home with that when you know I was absolutely pissed.
A woman can easily manipulate a drunk man into bed and effectively force themselves on them as well. Some woman can be twice the size of the man as well. Is that rape? |
|
By:
clearly I'm in westenders team,he had to know not to rape,if she consented or nodded then without being there who knows. I guarantee she doesn't know 'cos she was in no state to recall. Sh*gging a drunken corpse doesn't say anything positive about Evans but up and down this country of ours I'd suggest maybe 40,000 had similar hook ups over the New Year in entrys, doorways, cars, hotel rooms or homes. The next morning recalling nothing or very little because that it what the encounter required.
|
|
By:
OK mate I see.
That is a completely different scenario and yes it does not look good for him. |
|
By:
Anyway the sentence was passed and he is out, without license conditions stating he can't play professional football then why can't he? He may have conditions saying he isn't allowed in a room with a stranger for sex (probation like notice of intended encounters), the law of the land is satisfied with regard to time served so whilst on licence he should be able to move on. If clubs offered him a position but on £350 a week would that be more acceptable? If 4 clubs all offered £20k a year inc. bonuses, would people still be up in arms if that was the best he could do or maybe allow him to clean bins for £500 a week because that would seem more appropriate.
|
|
By:
if he was a top footballer he would get 300k a week
but wouldnt be allowed to end his career in usa let him play for oldham, the fuss will die down in time but allow people to express their disgust, they are entitled to do that too |
|
By:
Well at least admit you've made yourself a tit there ph
|
|
By:
why? 'Cos I don't agree with you? You're the moral guardian of the forum now? I'd prefer not to know who rapes before conviction and if a mortally drunk girl/woman/man puts themselves in such a situation I think they have to accept some portion of blame. As mentioned was the club owner or bar staff put on the indictment? Aren't they supposed to monitor our intake and perceived physical capabilities.

A poll on the Oldham fans website shows 90% opposed to the club signing him.

So there are at least 10% with common sense, and an understanding of the law.
If voters were correct we wouldn't continually get the rubbish politicians that have pretended to govern the country for many years. |

Just checked out Oldham Athletics facebook page.
Feelings running very high over there. Unsuprisingly the vast majority are saying they don't want Evans playing for their club. Some are saying they will vote with their feet and not support them anymore. |

By:
Unbiased - apart from the process of trial by jury and a democratic vote to elect the country's leaders, is there anything else you'd like to pick fault with?
|

By:
Yes,people's grasp of common sense, which is sadly lacking. And no,I don't vote, due to the uselessness of the majority of politicians.
Is it common sense to want to ruin the future, and the right to earn a decent living, for a person that committed a crime that, as facts show, was very debatable.I am not saying the guy was totally innocent, nor am I saying he was totally guilty, what I am saying is that all these people that have voted to criminalise him even more need their motives questioned, and wonder what their mindsets are. Regarding voters and politicians ,no more to be said. |
|
By:
This is amazingly similar to the Mike Tyson rape saga.
Very similar evidence presented for the "rape" and the same hysterical reaction from one particular country after the guy gets out. |

If he gets off on appeal, fair enough.Until that happens,he will have to bear it. People are entitled to protest at the thought of a convicted rapist representing their club and city. Club chairmen will employ him if they deem fit.....the lack of clamour for his services would suggest they dont deem fit. |

The guy has been convicted of a vile criminal offence and served his time.
Whatever happened to rehabilitation of offenders? Graeme Rix had sex with a school girl, was sent to prison and returned to his job at Chelsea without much fuss. I am struggling to understand why. |
