If you want to compare the odd result then fair enough, Utd being hammered by Ath Bilbao over 2 legs in Europa cup after suffering an early CL exit, Chelsea and ManC have also had early exits in recent years.
Would be interested to see the "proper" balance sheets of the PL clubs in comparison to those in the Bundesliga, compare admission prices while we are at it. Could also remove from each league the players from overseas and see what you are left with, remember when the PL began Spain had 58% foreign players and set about re-dressing that huge error, and noticeable that the wage structure is not far off the Bundesliga. Too many complications in this "most competitive league" nonsense, as most fans can not be @rced with P+L, would rather see clubs in the later stages of the CL even if it means the owner signing another £1b cheque to wipe a couple of years debt. |

and Wage bill only allowed to increase by £4m p.a. under FFP, iirc. In the nicest possible way you both need to reread the FFP rules/ regulations, and then look at Utd's income and revenue streams and profit/ loss. They could buy 3/4 more top players on high wages and not even be close to the FFP limits. "the restriction only applies to the income from TV money. If clubs boost their income through extra sponsorship deals or matchday income, they can spend that on wages too." Utd have increased there income through some truly massive sponsorship deals in the last 12 months. Even if FFP was an issue for Utd that they are not in Europe this season may actually work in their future favour. Liverpool's absence last season helped them pass the first FFP monitoring period, had they played in in Europe last season they would have failed by a similar margin as City, and would almost certainly have experienced the same consequences. |

Nearly every decent player from La Liga has been a success in the Premier League in recent years.
It's also about time Man Utd went out and just bought a world class player. I would way rather pay £60m for a world class player, than buy 2-3 average ones for £15m-30m. A trap Man Utd have fallen into in recent years. |

I cant understand everyone going on about united paying over the odds. real madrid have been doing that since jesus was a boy and it hasn't done them any harm has it? paying over the odds is always worthwhile for top class players. all that matters is they win matches for you, get you qualified for the cl and win trophies.
the really bad buys are when you waste money on substandard players. united are a giant club, they should be paying big money on top class players just like real madrid, barcelona, chelsea and man city do. it hasn't done those clubs any harm. I hope united keep buying world class players for big money. |

Because the Spanish big two are constantly in competition with each other, and are also often buying players who the selling club don't really want to sell, thus you have to pay big money.
Bayern activate a lot of release clauses in their deals. |

In La Liga Real Madrid and Barcelona produce many players from their academies. Real sell theirs generally and use the funds to help buy "Galactios", Barcelona tend to have more ending up in the first team. The EPL produces very few top class players through the academies and hence it has to spend big to get players in. City's academy may change that in years to come. It wasn't long ago that La Liga consisted of over 50% foreign players. |

Plus it's clear the top, top talent only really wants to play for Barcelona in Real Madrid in recent years. They have often bought players that wouldn't even go to Bayern.
Bayern have an advantage at youth level. Because they are the only giant club in Germany, thus all the talent in Germany naturally vacuums up to Bayern with very little competition for said players. Spain's talent not only is their competition between Barcelona and Real Madrid, but in recent years you've had English clubs trying to muscle in on some of their talent. And they tend to be a lot more open to moving abroad as the lower Spanish clubs are less financially stable than the lower German clubs. |

Even this window they've made mistakes. These players should have been brought in a month ago. Allegedly they are going to sign 2 more players. So they will have signed 4 players after the season started. They've already dropped 5 points, could have done with those players in the first two matches.

Another example of a player signing for money, they don't give a damn about champions league football. Players will sign for anyone if the money is right, take falcahowcanimakethemostmoney. Clueless media, more money or champions league football, let me think, well another 20k a week would be nice, but I'd miss the champions league, especially the music, despite finishing 3rd in the league. Sod the extra money, you can't put a price on hearing that champions league music.

To work out why it's going wrong for United, you have to go back to the time when it all went right. In the early 90's Fergie's team started to take shape, whilst Liverpool's decline set in after they employed Souness as manager. Add to that the fact that a group of talented youngsters were all coming the ranks at the same time at Old Trafford, & you had yourself a perfect storm. That perfect storm has now gone into reverse. Fergie has now gone, other clubs are putting together very good sides, & there is nothing outstanding coming from United's academy. Ferguson left a legacy insofar that the club is now a financial giant & can afford to throw money at the problem. However, they are now competing with mega-rich clubs who can offer just as much, if not more, than United. For nearly 2 decades Manchester United were the blueprint as to how a proper football club should be run. They now come across as a club that's lost its identity & are using money as a short-cut to getting back on top.

PSG agreed a fee of €65m a couple of weeks ago, he was negotiating personal terms before they pulled out because it would have taken them over the FFP threshold or whatever you'd called it.
Sharp minded Ed saw the move collapse, realized the player had less than 12 months of his contract to run and with Machiavellian cunning negotiated Real down to a mere €75m. At least he's managed to write a decent script for Di Maria that the suckers can lap up.
