motivation may become a problem at manu, winning the league already looks very unlikely so players like di maria will be needed to roll their sleeves up week in week out just to scrape into the top 4
By:
the deal is done - £63.9m
By:
panic buying turning to desperation at that price
By:
130k per week
By:
wages.
By:
nah di maria is class - he basically won the cl final single-handed - fantastic performance
By:
What must the Glazer's think about all this? They're used to bleeding clubs dry rather than spending.
By:
they will just put up the ticket prices
By:
stunned by that price, he's worth 14m tops

The fee may seem astronomical, but let's not forget the deal man utd just signed with Adidas.
75m per year, for 10yrs. It's not a matter of money, but of priorities. I'm a shirt maker (Adidas) ie I make money by selling shirts. I sponsor you, but FFS you need to buy footballers that are selling shirts. Expensive players. Players everyone will talk about. Here's the strategy: find a household name, and if there aren't around will help you create one. Start a saga about the transfer, make it look complicated, as if you were trying to sign Obama as president of Korea. Possibly pretend the deal is about to break and in the end chip in another 5 million, to make the transfer look more dramatic, therefore more advertising-friendly. You don't have to care for the money because it's me, the shirt maker, who foots the bill. What did you say, you rather need a defender? Sorry guys, defenders don't sell as many shirts, so go out and get Di Maria as you were slow to get Rodriguez or Suarez. That's what happens when you sell your soul for cash. 750million quid could have bought 51pct of manutd on the stock exchange. In a way, this is what Adidas have actually done. |
By:
Interesting take Johnnie and from a team building point of view you do have to question whether the money could have been better spent but advertisers may well have that kind of influence and like you say names sell shirts.
By:
do they still get that much if out of the champions league ?
By:
he's a top class player so the money is well spent. what i really hate to see is buying a lot of mediocre players for 15 million ish - i'd swap 5 of them for 1 high quality player any day...sometimes less is more.

By:
I believe if Utd don't qualify for the Champions League this season AND next season then Adidas have to pay less. If Utd get relegated during the deal Adidas can pull out of the contract.
By:
talking about united being relegated is just plain silly
By:
![]() |
By:
Probably, but not silly enough not to be put into the contract by Adidas. There are probably a range of performance related points to the contract, those were a couple that were highlighted a couple of weeks ago.
By:
Still the most talked about club in the country.
By:
Good post johnnie.
On a wider scale Scudamore said how disappointing it was (for the PL Brand)that Man Utd did so badly last year.. Sums up modern football. |
By:
^^ which is why they wont be relegated and refs will be falling over themselves this year to help them out
By:
Still the most talked about club in the country.
Now the most laughed about club in the country. Another trophy you've taken off Liverpool. Your chest must be swelling. ![]() |
By:
we just signed a top cb (rojo) and di maria and more to come before the deadline. I think it's a case of panic over move along...nothing to see here
By:
yeah onepecenter i'm sure many will say diddums
all those years of titles and now you are going through a bad patch you can't handle a bit of stick ROFL ![]() of course other fans will make the most of this, it is after all very rare in the past 20 years we get a fecking chance ![]() and for the record liverpool fans get plenty of stick by your lot on here even when your own club was the best in the land! to some, our result seemed more important than man u's every week |
By:
fans are as bad as each other from all clubs.
so all this , so and so fans are worse is complete horse sh1t. let's have some realism here. |
By:
outside of madrid and buenos aries how many shirts have you seen with di maria on the back, dont think utd will be panic buying his letters just yet
By:
Biggest waste of £££ ever.
By:
by the way a player who costs 60 mill plus doesnt get 130 grand a week unless barry silkmens his agent, could have got 200grand plus net at psg so if you think utd are such a pull he,s taken a 100 grand a week pay cut fair play to you
By:
Not good enough to play with Madrid.....but a star player with United......
A bit like Ozil who is a bag of Shiite not being up to playing with them but a top signing at Arsenal.....much the same as Sanchez from Barcelona..... Basically La Liga is where the stars are.....and when some of them fail to perform or are not as good as they thought originally.....then its off to the heap of Shiite premiership with them....while the one or two genuinely world class playes like Suarez and Bale go the other way..... The career of Fabregas sums up European soccer.....at first they thought he was too good for the premiership.....but when they foind out he was a dud.....give Chelsea a ring there quick..... |
By:
correct walnuts and you have deluded souls like woy saying english youngsters not getting a game should go abroad must mean french, belgum 2nd division teams does he,
![]() |
By:
only two teams in spain and one other, at the moment the designated one other is atletico Madrid, no depth to the league. epl is miles better
fabregas happy to be back in London and the epl, he was press-ganged into joining barca, didn't want to go there at all |
By:
how many teams in the epl ?
By:
Balague said 8.5 million euro's per year was Di Maria's deal which is 130k per week. Probably an increase on what he was on at Madrid. PSG wouldn't pay the asking price so it's irrelevant.
By:
95k at RM
By:
more than 2 + 1 GAZO
epl has strength in depth. the bottom sides can beat the top sides here. in spain barca and rm win nearly every single game without breaking sweat, esp at home. too easy |
By:
That's because our top teams our rubbish, as proved by their UCL performances.
By:
spain won both european trophys last season and had both teams in the champions league final, sounds like a pretty strong league
By:
nah, it's just a minor hiccup. we still have the best league and we'll be back dominating the cl. normal service will resume shortly
![]() |
By:
Hamsterdam, you forget PSG couldnt pay that kind of sum when their FAIR PLAY RULES....
Utd can afford 3 more signings of the same amount due to their turnover... With Barca not being able to buy and BAYERN AND REAL squads complete it gives utd hope that over the next 2 windows they can attract that kinda player |
By:
I can get a double di maria and coke for £2.50
