If he's the only player the buy between now and the end of the transfer window than I agree mentalissimo. Probably be another couple. Khedira is the player they need most imo.

Crazy fee, but still a fantastic player, worth £40m in todays crazy transfer market. £60m is laughable, but sadly United have that kind of crazy money to throw around.

they must have about 20 by now. They need a back 4 and 2 world class central midfielders, Di Maria is a great player but it wont solve the problem with back six who are utter crap. |

Van Gaal was moaning a few weeks ago about having too many number 10s. So what does he do...? He can't be part of a midfield 3 surely without a proper holder. Carrick-Herrera-Di Maria will get eaten alive. Maybe he's about to be the most expensive left back in the world.

I think he'd be fine if he had a bit of beef around him. Carrick's finished, Herrera would get knocked over by a breeze, Fellaini's a joke.
Di Maria might be (and is) twice the player Khedira is, but he certainly isn't the better signing for Utd. |

You won loads of league titles without a 'proper' DM...its a bit of myth I think, you just need a consistent passer (like Carrick in good form).

wallis, there's no evidence of Manchester United throwing any money around never mind silly money. United are a giant club that's been run like corner shop for too long. They need to get the biscuit tin out and buy a world class player for once in their miserable penny pinching existence!

United doing an 'Arsenal', buying a great player but not filling the positions that need addressing the most. Will still struggle to get into the top four if they don't buy at least 1 top quality CB and 1 CM.

very quick, good engine, no right foot, no brain, poor team player, low pain threshold or feigning injury, drop in class to epl and being able to play in his best position (at last) should see bit of improvement, scoring record poor (less than 1 goal every 6 games at club level) at 26 dont think he's worth more than £50m when you consider suarez went for £64m

Spending like drunken sailors on shore leave. They have been panic buying since last season. I see no cohesive team, just an assembly of expensive egos. No way can they make that money back in commercial revenue. CL qualification is about £25m only, so buying a player at twice that price doesn't make a lot of sense. Di Maria is a world class player who every club would love to sign but RM pulling Eds pants down on this one. |

got to be the wind up of all time in the previous game the only player ive seen come close to playing such an abysmal game was rooney at swansea last season, absolute gash and wouldnt get a game for a pub team based on that game,99% of his games he seems to run around like a headless chicken with neither him or his team mates have a clue whats he,s trying to do,with his diving and play acting that the spanish seem to put up with i,ll confidently predict this will end in tears |

So many average players changing hands for £10m that it's no surprise a starter for RM and Argentina is going to be priced like this.
As others have said, MU need Centre Backs and a leader in the middle rather than a winger who doesn't score many. With a fit RVP, Mata and Rooney, United should score plenty anyway so it's debatable whether it's wise to spend so much on a wide player to cross the ball. Not sure they have the strength at the back to grind out the 1-0s when required. |

Man Utd'd revenue stream isn't far off Real, Barca's and Bayern's so paying that much for a player isn't really a big deal for them.

Like all top clubs Real Madrid don't have to sell their best players so when one hands in a transfer request the price is not going to be cheap.
Of course £60m is a lot of money but United's income is vast compared to other English clubs. |

Agree Costa was good value given the prices we've seen this summer. Mind you, united probably would have paid £50m for Fabregas they're so bad at playing the transfer window.

I think RM were shocking too...
They knew (didn't they??) that Rodriguez was half decent BEFORE the WC. One excellent poster on here tipped him up at 100-1 to be the player of the tournament (price came in to 2s I believe) He has a very tidy tourny and his price probably doubled. Begs the question: could have bought him in May.... Clubs are pretty clueless in their transfers. It's likle a coconut shy. A tad random. May get a giant teddy but then again... |
