i suppose when you are top scorers in the league hunter and have smashed up plenty of teams in the top half of the table now, the defence isn't the be all and end all.
unlike chelsea who often get a goal and try and keep hold of it and make a meal of scoring from their chances! flanagan deserves praise this season, i think the others are on borrowed time. |
|
By:
2 clean sheets in a row away against saints and utd with 3 goals at the other end since agger and skrtel have been partners again.
don't think swapping back 4 (injuries played a part) most of the season is good for any team. sakho has been injured you'd expect him to have figured otherwise |
|
By:
johnson and agger have been out for a fair period with injury, and we didnt defend too well, but the attacking options more than compensate for that, as everyone can see by our goals for. we,ll all find out next season when our squad depth will be tested properly, but i expect we,ll strengthen squad to help cope with replacing man utd in champs league
|

By:
I think you agree with me .you dont win a league with that defence it will come under pressure when the pressure is on and be found out. The forwards have been able to keep very fresh due to only having the League to focus on and are on fire but the defence will be found out ,probably now they think they have a chance of league success and the pressure really builds.
|
|
By:
thats a fair point about the pressure hunter.
but to say liverpool are a poor team is not, you could have said that in many a season tbh but not this one! |
|
By:
You can win anything if you score more goals than the opposition.
|
|
By:
if chelsea and city rock up thinking they are billy big bollocks they could get a bit of a shock at anfield.
|

anyway a great end to the season beckons, so many permutations still possible.
really enjoyed it ![]() |

We've kept 2 clean sheets & scored 6 goals in our last 2 away games at 2 very difficult grounds. For all we know Rodgers might have sorted out our defensive woes. We haven't been as cavalier in those 2 matches, but we've looked far more compact, & yet still posed a dangerous attacking threat. |

No team with an attack that includes Torres, Ba and Eto'o should be able to win a premier league...

......and it would be rather hollow if they were to sneak it in that manner I couldn´t agree more about their cherry picking tactics. |
|
By:
So i take it, that by your logic you think utd are 'cherry picking' this season by playing so appallingly that they will not qualify for even the Ropey league next season, thus giving them a free run all 2014-15 season - how does that square with you you funny little man you?

Thought you had finished talking about this subject
TheBetterBettor 02 Mar 14 20:08 Had enough.. from now on I wont be talking about this any more. All I can see is the bitterness and jealousy, and its clouding everybodies replies on this matter. Preventing a more adult and sensible discussion on this issue So, I will leave you in peace. Good nite. You just can't stay away - Like a dog with a bone. If it helps, Liverpool do a have an advantage at the moment with fewer games to play but only because they have played themselves into a position of possibly winning the league. Any thoughts that such an achievement would be devalued are ludicrous. Some people actually thought that this was a fishing thread but you don't do fishing do you. That would involve a certain amount of humour and intelligence - say no more. |

No team with a defence that includes Mignolet , Johnson Skirtel Agger Flanagan should be able to win a premier league .they aint good enough. A couple of injuries which you can avoid when you are only interested and concentrating on one trophy and they have no chance. They have had injuries though. Agger and Flanagan aren't (or at least weren't) first choice defenders. Football is about scoring goals. Doesn't matter if the defence isn't great and concedes a goal every game if the attack scores 2 or 3. Saying Liverpool won't win the league because the defence isn't great is no more worthy a point than saying Chelsea won't win the league because they don't score many. What's the difference between Chelsea winning a game 1-0 or Liverpool winning a game 2-1 or 3-2? |
|
By:
That is where only having the league to concentrate on is helping Liverpool forwards especially suffer by playing midweek and at the weekend and Liverpool's are always well rested.
|
|
By:
Obviously them not being in europe is a bonus this season but they still need to be a good side to challenge for the title. Everton weren't mounting a title challenge last season, i don't expect we'll see Man U mounting one next season. Plus the likes of City and Chelsea virtually have 2 quality players for each position so could field a different team for every other game if they wanted.

Be interesting to find out how many minutes Chelsea's key players have played this season as opposed to Liverpool's. |

Footballers run what 6-7 miles a game at a push (usually around 9-10km on opta) and even if you double that for the, ahem, physicality of the game (i.e a game takes more out than just running that distance) which is being generous, then at a push footballers are running 30-40 miles a week at match level. FFS if a prof sportsman can't do that withjout being knackered then they need to train harder - maybe getting paid (10's, 100's of) thousands a week should mean they should have to train in the afternoons!!

i think all would agree that liverpools squad is much weaker than city or chelseas or even arsenals (who seem prone to bad injuries season after season!), would usually say utd but of course this is clearly not the case at present! surely this freshness angle is only part of it, we have been at a disadvantage with the squad depth over these rivals. the reason liverpool have done well is because they score a shed load of goals and have the 2 best scorers in the league, other 'fresh' sides are nowhere near this. |
|
By:
The Liverpool players have hunger and unity. Add a superb strike-duo, and you've got the makings of a championship winning side.
They've had an advantage through their easier fixtures list, but then, they've had the easier fixtures list for a reason. Chelsea and City have bigger and more properly tested squads, which is why they qualified for the CL last year, while Liverpool didn't. The various advantages and disadvantages ought to sort themselves out. Liverpool will presumably strengthen and extend their squad over the summer, and then they'll be able to handle the greater demands of having European football to fit in. |

Chelsea and City have bigger squads Not true Liverpool have the biggest first team squad liverpool 32 man city 30 chelsea 30 Man Utd 27 spurs 26 Plus the likes of City and Chelsea virtually have 2 quality players for each position So what, that´s not their problem! To see them just weasel their way into the top 4 and have the nerve to say most neutrals want them to win the league is a sad reflection of the game. |

question for you thebitterbighter - do you think that manure will try and not lose against CITEH tomorrow night, in their race for 7th place - yes indeed seventh place - in the Premier League?
![]() ![]() ![]() or would manure prefer that CITEH win tomorrow to help them in their quest of trying to prevent Chelsea or Liverpool being crowned Champions? ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

this manure team have got to be the worst since the days of 'big ron'
![]() ![]() it really is amazing how far they have sunk ![]() ![]() ![]() unable to even mount a late, but outside challenge for the ropey league ![]() ![]() ![]() me thinks it will be many years before manure are able to challenge for a European place again ![]() ![]() ![]() so thebitterbighter will be happy that manure have that 'fixture advantage' over the big teams for a very long time ![]() ![]() ![]() |
