I agree that England are cottoning on to the type of training techniques that Spain and Germany have been using for a long time to train their kids.
I completely disagree that the current crop of youngsters listed in the OP are anywhere near the talent of Spanish and German youngsters of similar age. It will take another 10+ years for that to happen. Any half decent youngster is always hyped up by the press and I think the OP has swallowed a lot of this hype. Walcott? FFS you don't have a clue about football if you think he is world class. Welbeck - you are right about him adding goals to his game, he has already scored 1 goal more than he did in the PL all last season. The lad at Everton is called Barkley, are you getting mixed up with Kyle Bartley?! Lennon?! Sorry but you did mention him. Wilshere is quality but he needs to get out of Arsenal to develop his potential and play at the very highest level. And I'm an Arsenal fan. |

All the English up and coming talent stand out so much because theres so few of them. A nation like ours should be producing far more than we do and be spoilt for choice when selecting international players. We just dont develop our home grown talent to their full potential and the high number of foreign players must have played a big role in this being the case. Inadequate youth training techniques, lack of sport facilities and lack of competative football in schools have also put us years behind other countries. It will take more than a handfull of half decent players to come along to make us competative, we need a whole new approach to the game.

Demonstrates the blinkered thinking of you English. HART is a prime example of English media overhype. He even believes it himself, you can tell by his body language. The reality is, he's vastly overrated. As are Rooney et al. |

Unique,if you expect to be taken seriously,then you shouldn't be making stupid ridiculous statements,like Gerrard and Lampard being overrated.They have achieved at the highest level,against the best in Europe,and achieved a level of consistency,that many can only dream of,over many years.Not stupid thoughts,but straight facts.
When our young players have a couple of good games ,and shine,against weak opposition,the press then bigs them up to be fantastic.Not so,they may be showing promise for the future,but no way fantastic. As has been pointed out by other posters,the other countries aren't exactly standing still in producing talent,Brazilians like Oscar for a start,young with a great future.Same for Spain,Germany etc. etc. One of the big problems in England is our lack of decent coaches,hence the many top name foreign coaches now employed.They bring flare to their teams,ball control,skill etc. Players like Welbeck may make the top grade,but certainly not yet,a long way to go,as is the case with others mentioned.It would be good if they did,but it is early days still. Regarding the press,I refuse to read the drivel they write,after all it is only their opinions,and rarely factual,same goes for the tv pundits.We watch,and we make up our minds,regardless of the waffle they come out with. |

Gerrard and Lampard may of achieved at the highest level at club level and that is because they're surrounded by foreigners. Neither of them have been good enough in an England shirt and neither of them can keep the ball. Say what you like about Wilshere, Cleverley and the others but at least they can keep the ball and keep things ticking over. Gerrards constant 50 yard passes may work in the premier league, at club level but it certainly doesn't work at international level. How many times do you see Xavi hit a 50 yard pass? Keep the fooking ball, its not difficult.

The FIFA seeding system preserves England's place in the top 10 (ish) of world football.
Bit of a con of course. The likes of Wales and Scotland have zero chance of qualifying for any tourny unless they dramatacilly exceed their seeding, which is fairly hard if not impossible... |

u want some,presumably you never saw those players,that you believe didn't achieve much,ply their trade against Europe's best.Either that,or you have a short memory.As said the measure of a player's ability is achieving against top opposition,in many games,something that those mentioned have done.
Very few have shone in an England shirt due to the overall poorness of the team,as you can't do it on your own. Try to find other players to rubbish,as these guys have nothing left to prove.Can't keep the ball!!!!They control the midfield,and don't chase around at breakneck pace,and do give precise passes,very often the simple option,passing to the player a few yards away,keeping possession. I wonder how closely some forumites actually watch a game,or do they just let their preconceived views rule over what actually happens on the pitch during a match. |

Gerrard and Lampard have been excellent at club level absolutely no doubt about that yet they have nearly always been poor at international level where keeping the ball is the priority. Gerrard and Lampard cant keep the ball and thats why they will always falter at international level. You like most idiotic fans and recent England managers will always pick Gerrard and Lampard when they have always been poor in an England shirt but people that know the game, like me would of shipped both of them out years ago. Its fine for them in the premier league where the game is played at breakneck speed but that isn't the case at international level. Stand them next to each other and just look at the physique's of them, one look at the size of them tells me they are not cut out for international football. We need smaller, quicker more technical players that can retain the ball instead of looking like they could run through a wall like Gerrard, Lampard, Barry etc....

Meanwhile the argument is pointless as Gerrard and Lampard are both at the end of their careers. Your waffle about size is also wrong,as you can't generalise.Bergkamp wasn't exactly small,and bossed many a match,as did Zidane,and many others.At the moment there are many small and very skillful players,but that can soon change. |
