LL Danchez goes favourite, even though he hasn't bridged with Rolland yet. He is a legitimate favourite, looks to be on good sensations, course suits him, and in good form, however too short with 30+ kms remaking any the classics-style finale likely going to inspire attacks from the peloton.

Sanchez.

LL Sanchez bridges with Rolland, goes to the front and begins eating up the road, nevertheless the gap comes down.

Impossible to predict the outcome.

Classics finish as expected, gutted for Yates...
By:
Loved that. Really fine racing, agree it's the best stage of all so far.
By:
what a stage in store 2moro..talk about brutal..need to set up a base camp to get over the Stelvio
![]() but what i don't approve of is having 20 kms descent to the finish as it gives a chance to lesser climbers to claw back time just finish these mountain stages atop a summit |
By:
Don't forget TV pictures are starting earlier today to pick up the first climb.
Not sure it'll be a GC winner, but I have no bets pre-off. I don't get to watch live as much as I should at the moment, so I'm going to be looking to pick up bets in-play. |

Anacona, Herrada and Izaguirre in the break with Ten Dam.
By:
Had a tiny on Jan Hirt for interest.
By:
Solid breakaway, and lesser climbers are definitely in with a shout on account of the descent. However, I think that a lesser climber who is a gun descender will still be a valid winner of this stage. Looking closely at Nibali, not much value presently though.
By:
Quintana getting pushed up the climb, should be a fine that.
I really fancy Landa for the win with the current situation, but there's absolutely no value on that one. |
By:
What's the strategy here with Anacona? Have him drop back for an attack by Quintana and then change their mind? Meanwhile, he kills himself to get back to the lead group.
Doesn't seem to be a physical issue, maybe a mechanical? All very odd. |
By:
There's been instances of indecision in the past for MOV, where they resign stage honours with a rider in the breakaway for the benefit of assisting their principal.
By:
I think if Nibali can stick with the attacks out of the peloton, he might reach out for the top of the climb and distance all on the descent -- that's nothing new, but I am not confident he can stick on.
Landa descending nicely, didn't think he could. |
By:
Is Quintana feeling ok? Movistar's tactics so far are bizarre to say the least. Izaguirre sent back to Ten Dam and now both in the Maglia Rosa group.
The only way I can make sense of it is if he's not feeling good and he was isolated in the group. Probably overthinking what is just bad tactics. I'd be wary of Nibali a) making the climb with the others b) overshooting it on the downhill. Going to be a banzai on the way down if several of them are within striking distance. I can't ever remember Quintana descending well. |
By:
Quintana not much of a descender, and he crashed off the side yesterday, and yet the price since SP has been suggestive of a mountaintop finish at 14%, and that once Quintana attacks he is home for the win. Absurd. Your Landa pick actually looks very good CJ, we know he can climb very well in a long-range break, and everything about the previous descent suggests he will keep his advantage. Gap increasing as the thin peloton has no one really left to drive it.
By:
...no one except for ORS, but it's one man against multiple, and Landa and Amador are both on good sensations.
By:
Just as I say that three come to work in the peloton and the gap comes down.
By:
People being surprised by the deficient-quality of TJVanG in the mountains, he has been pulling the wool over their eyes for multiple seasons now -- he is finished as a GC rider.
By:
I think the breakaway need 2mins by the start of the climb, preferably the climb proper. It's with the peloton presently, I believe.
By:
Agree that Quintana is going to be a lay if they catch the break. Kruiswijk kicks it all off in the break.
By:
WTF? Dumoulin going for a bog on the side of the road!?
By:
Attack the leader? What on earth is going on!
By:
I've never seen anything like that before -- never like to laugh at riders -- that was quite comical, though.
By:
It's Zakarin, it's to be expected...
By:
You'd hope Zakarin didn't know, he seems to have slowed quickly. Then Movistar and Bahrain hammering the front?
By:
They're all having their little goes here...
By:
Unbelievable. No excuses that they don't know, it's just bad form.
What is it with Quinatana at the Giro? The last one he won because of attacking when the race was neutralised. |
By:
Good memory CJ, it was near the exact area too when it happened, how crazy is that?
By:
Nibali at 7s will do me for the stage win. Cannot see any major attacks and the peloton are bringing back the break.
By:
Will be bloody close, though.
By:
Cannot really see much wrong with Dumoulin, he just needs to work away at it in his own way, own rhythm.
By:
Nibali/Quintana group require to get within 30 secs, I think. Nibali will make 30secs on the descent. Don't like this stop/start tactics, though.
By:
Nibali very comfortable from all evidence, not taking enough time on Landa, who descended very well last time.
By:
Landa only a few kms from the top, and a minute should be enough. Looks like the Quintana lay was the play.
By:
...even if Quintana opens a gap just near the top, it won't be big enough for Nibali not being able to close, I mean.
