Stage: 8
Looks like the Books have got their act together and left the sprinters out of the equation. Pity. They've essentially marked it up after the stage 6 peloton finishers and that's safe for them, I guess, but I think it is full of holes. I like G and Bob Jungels on this finish, both at 27/1 with BF, for small stakes, but it'll be quite chaotic with lots of late attacks, and the break still hasn't formed, so lots to assess yet. |

LL Sanchez has dragged them back strongly. He is going to be tough to beat, I think.
By:
Izaguirre can skip away when it gets really steep, but Sanchez can still break them.
By:
Izaguirre deserved that, market was strong on him.
By:
Sanchez looked like he had put all his effort into that chase, and poor Conti went down. Visconti was riding for Italian pride so that would have given him a lift. This stage, in review, has been strong for the breakaway winning in the past, so I think I might have missed some better options, IR. Never mind, can't win them all.

Stage: 9
Quintana is obviously the legitimate favourite, and we will see some fireworks from the GC contenders here finally, but I cannot accept such a short price of 13/8 best with BF, so no bets for me at ante-post. |
By:
The break are not looking very good here at all, it's easily with the GC peloton presently, and Rolland can only get away with these tactics for so long, if he doesn't explode solo and get close to the win on the final climb, he is completely finished as a legitimate GT rider for the GC, in my opinion.
By:
Was he intended as a staging post for Formolo if the break had many minutes?
By:
G'day mate, I don't subscribe to that theory, Rolland has become a stage hunter since his quality as a GC rider began to wane. Formolo has little chance of jumping out of the GC group once on the final climb, and no assistance from a rider like Rolland would help him.
By:
MOV all business here, the longer they keep this up, the harder it will become for riders to attack. Hope they really ramp it up like the SKY mountain train of old...
By:
I may well be wrong but it would explain Canondale wasting so much energy. I wasn't particularly thinking of Formolo as a stage winner, just his GC aspirations.
By:
Wow, Quintana goes odds-on on here, already.
By:
I don't have Formolo in my top-10, but whatever that commentary was about at the start about CAN was not really worth noting, in my opinion. Some of these DS moves outside of the contending teams make no sense whatsoever, and they're not really part of the big questions, anyway.
By:
Certainly Canondale have form for thinking outside the box!
By:
How do you mean, mate?
By:
Ouch! G could be out of the Giro, here. Bad crash at speed.
By:
SKY in big trouble from that carnage.
By:
Quintana is going to trade shorter than evens.
By:
G back riding -- phew -- a lot of people will be breathing a sigh of relief.
By:
Yates coming back.

Mafia got a BIG hit in there
Sky should withdraw NOW sMELLS smelly ![]() |
By:
I think he went down too?
By:
Apparently so
By:
Hopefully no lasting effects and he can get back into it -- think he has an opportunity in this race to do something good and really lift his profile.
By:
How thin is this group? That's insane, MOV dictating terms with ease.
By:
I liked his chances better than G. Can't tell where is on the road.
By:
Anacona needs to hold this for a little while yet, Quintana doesn't want a long solo TT.
By:
Yeah, held the same view, but it was interesting how much weight he has lost and whether it would give him that extra lift.
By:
6.7 kms for the major selection.
By:
This is good, thought Pozzovivo might have been capable of responding also.
By:
Expected this from Quintana and Nibali, but not Pinot, this is really surprising from him.
By:
NIBALI HAS BECOME JAN ULLRICH!?
By:
Maybe in style only, he has cracked here now.
By:
Good work by Mollema and Dumoulin to work away at it, especially that is Dumoulin's strength.
By:
Notice how Pinot is turning himself out, while Quintana always appears to have a few spare gears.
By:
He is hurting a bit though, isn't he? He has a right to pull the odd face.

DOMINANCE from Quintana and a very strong MOV team!
