Unless there's a major acceleration by Quintana/Nibali soon then this is between Landa & Hirt.
I worry for Pozzivivo descending after what happened a couple of years ago. Dumoulin losing a bit of time now, but safe to say it was just a toilet break. |
By:
Nibali will get away on the descent, expect even a cheeky attack near the top, but 1min too much to bridge to Landa. All value out of the market now though, sadly.
By:
I think Nibali is a dangerous descender rather than an elite descender. The other three are awful defenders, so he should take time on them.
By:
Agree, it was just that re. Dumoulin. We'd call it a funny break here in Australia. Don't know enough about Hirt, whilst Landa is a gun, we agree.
By:
I think he looks dangerous because he is so good. I think an elite descender makes it "hang out" in places. Taking chances and looking fast and dangerous.
By:
*dunny break;-)
By:
Nibali -- cheeky attack...
By:
I agree with you in principle, but the amount of time Nibali comes off when he's gunning it down hill puts him more into dangerous than elite.
Landa down to 44. |

-- strap yourself in --
By:
A lot of power-descending going on -- Nibali finding it tough to get away from Quintana.
By:
As soon as it gets technical and fast, Nibali pokes his nose in front.
By:
Landa pulling out a little. Dumoulin descending well at the moment as well. How much do both of them have left?
By:
I think Dumoulin is safe for the jersey. Landa will have Nibali for company any moment now.
By:
Nibali has a good sniff here now.
By:
Come on my son!
By:
Nibali letting it hang out;-)
By:
Passes Landa -- come on my son!
By:
Nibali so close to stacking this.
By:
Laid back some Nibali 7s at evens, now want a win with him winning.
By:
He is dangerous, yes, CJ, but he is feeling it, see that bunny hop over water? Pure class!
By:
Bunny hop over water, coming into a turn, no less.
By:
Landa sticking on, it's less technical.
By:
Nibali has a fierce attack in him, left. The evidence is there for it, he is sitting back, stalking, like a shark. Come on mate!
By:
Brilliant! Done! Love that! Nibali, we know is class!
By:
The way Nibali found the inside gap on that last turn, what a racer, that's what won it for him, it was bloody close.
By:
...And Dumoulin just holds on to keep the lead. Remember, he has a minute as a minimum on Quintana in the final TT, I believe.
By:
Wow, what a stage. Thanks CJ for the engaging nteraction, really appreciate it from a long-term forum member, mate.

Cheers. Great shout on Nibali.
Really enjoyed today, thanks. Hopefully, will be able to watch a few more around other commitments. Otherwise back for Le Tour. |
By:
Zakarin was always a maggot, and he again confirmed it. Quintana, as CJ reminded us has a history in the Giro for this sort of thing, but he is still young and might be forgiven with the DS screaming into his ear, possibly. Dumoulin hung tough. Need to drill down into again in regard to GC, but not much has really changed, the ITT will account for a minute minimum, I believe.
By:
Bit stretched myself with other commitments, but trying to stay focused with it. Missing some really obvious plays is really frustrating, but nice to get a winner up, even if it was IR. Cheers.

End of stage: 16
By:
dissapointing sportsmanship there.
no respect anymore |
By:
I think you British folks would say: it's just not cricket;-)
By:
great fight from Tom, it now depends if he's fit or has gathered an illness. Break would have been faster with old style shorts and without helmet.
By:
Quintana, as CJ reminded us has a history in the Giro for this sort of thing, but he is still young and might be forgiven
He is 27 age is no excuse , but he is no more guilty than Nibali and the others. Very poor form from them all. |

Stage: 17 Massive chasing group, some 41-strong after Rolland dropped back from the leading duo, who continue to extend their gap from the chasing group and peloton. Still a long way to go, but presently SUN are not really racing, and with the brutal nature of tomorrow's stage I would expect a cease fire from the protagonists, in terms of just having an easy day in the saddle.
By:
Highly likely it's with the breakaway. 2 v. 40-odd.
By:
Chasers making in-roads as Brutt pops and Mohoric is indecisive over being found alone in the lead some 83kms out.
By:
Brutt in major distress here, won't be capable of sticking with the chasers once they find him.
