Can't say which way it is going yet Atherton?

It is going India's way right now. Could change any time of course.

India will have to cash in on the softer ball. Surprised we have not seen basher.

Oh my word. Bumrah on this is going to be fun. Great to see Stokes bowling again.

He is such a cricketer, competitor and I have to say the greatest of English captains. People go on about Mike Brearley but look who he had in his side. Who has Stokes had? Joe Root! 30-3, 40-4, wayward bowling ok Broad and Anderson at the end of their careers, no spinners, no opening batsmen until Duckett.

Some of the things he does and say make me apoplectic at times. I disagree with so much of what he does but remain in awe of him and his leadership skills. I would never dream of loading up on him. The Decision to bat second was not great imho but completely understandable.

Looking forward to Pant taking on Basher...hopefully after lunch!

He will take the game or open a door. I am backing him today. I also think he is a seriously intelligent cricketer even if appearances might indicate otherwise.

Keaton Jennings 3.77% swing allegedly
By:

When: 23 Jun 25 13:34
Speaking to Cricbuzz for one of the Spicy Pitch episodes, Bumrah revealed how, in the lead-up to that Jennings wicket, he had been listening -- "the only time," he promises -- to what the on-air experts were saying about his bowling and about how England should play him.

"That was the only time I was listening to what the experts were saying. Not about me, but about what the England team should do. They were saying that he only bowls the outswingers (to the left-hander). So I thought that if they are listening, if the England players are listening, then I'm in the game because I have the away-swingers as well," Bumrah said, grinning, when asked about his most memorable spell.

"Keaton Jennings was leaving the ball continuously. As soon as the ball was near middle or off stump, he knew that the ball will go away with my angle( from over the wicket). I thought he's listened to the commentary, and that he will leave anything outside off-stump. I thought I'll show him that I am still trying to do the same thing and then bowl the inswinger. I was sure he wouldn't be expecting, just that I have to be on the right length. He didn't even know... He left the ball and was plumb in front," he added.

But people who have no obvious signs of "black" genes are scrutinised by the media if they are in the public eye. From my point of view if they look white, they are white and vice versa.

Equalised on the draw and India. this will go rapidly against England this afternoon unless they break this partnership quickly
By:

When: 23 Jun 25 14:00
Finally the Draw is shorter than England. Should have been that way for 4 days! I can see India accelerating this afternoon to give themselves a win chance. 28 overs left of this ball.

It's interesting these first black players as there is some much prejudice
around selection, a prejudice that doesn't exist the other way around.

In football Paul Reaney became the first footballer named Paul to
play for England, and did so almost a decade before viv Anderson got
his first cap.

Laid England at 5/2 seemed minimal risk with 5 sessions remaining.

Unless India make a sporting declaration, which seems somewhat unlikely.

I cannot see England winning this unless they skittle India very soon. OK it is still only about 185 ahead and time to win today. Tomorrow is different. If India bat beyond tea they do not lose assuming the rain does come in tomorrow and they have every chance of running through England.

I love the stat they are putting up about run chases at Headingley. This pitch is deteriorating and there may well be cloud cover tomorrow.

This test in particular puts the sport of Cricket into perspective for me.

I never criticize any format of the game but embrace them all for what they offer , love T20 , love ODI and this test is a perfect illustration of loving it for different reasons than the other two in that singles are gold dust whereas they're often a disappointment in T20 or even ODI.

This test match amongst many others defines whether you're a Cricket follower is just purely a punter looking for something to bet on , it's been compulsive viewing from start to as we speak with such a lot more to come.

My motto is love the sport and embrace all formats of the game for the immense variety that they offer.

All that said hope you're all green guys   Grin

What has been genuinely interesting is that India have not slapped Bashir all over the gaff but rather milked him slowly and given the false impression he is doing a good job.

Oh my good God!

This boy is not a fool. He might be foolish getting out so many times in the 90's but he is one incredible cricketer

You were obviously joking about Stokes being the best English captain of all time WD!!
He wouldn't be in the top 10, He has made more fielding mistakes today moving slips about etc than Brearly made in a lifetime. Loads better as captain Strauss, Illingworth
Gatting ,Botham , Cowdrey, Dexter, the list is endless. Which isn't to say he isn't a good player because he is but he is not a great captain, sorry

I am a real snob Hayden but also have learned to enjoy the shorter format. I have always enjoyed the ODI World Cup from inception.

T20 does not deflate you if you loose as much as a Test Match imho.

England have been unlucky with the weather in this match even winning the toss was bad luck!

This is why Pant should never be called brainless when he gets out however idiotic the shot may look , who in their right mind would want to stifle this.

India are a good enough team to carry a Pant passenger on a brainless day and just reflect on all the matches he's won for his country by just being himself.

No disagree Hunt,

Agree today he has not covered himself in glory but a dropped catch off Rahul may still prove pivotal

he has nothing in the shape of bowling compared to Bumrah. Woakes is flat, Carse has done well. England were up against it from day 1 and remarkably came back into the game with an even chance of winning. Today Stokes has been highlighted in regard to the slips, which, I too saw as strange.

Bashir has been milked beautifully. I have a feeling he will be assaulted at some stage. It is like Robert Duvall ( not Derek ) and Sean Penn in Colours.

This is unserious.

England won 2 (two) times with Gatting as Test captain (in 23 matches).

England won 0 (zero) times with Botham as Test captain (in 12 matches).

Feel the captaincy pecking order will end up going around in circles , Stokes captaincy is in a totally different mindset era when hindsight is always going to bite captains who are so positive in the way of looking to bowl teams out and of course the occasional unpredictability of bazball.

I'd rather take the Strauss , Illingworth and Gatting era's as just different without even beginning to compare times when the sport was/is so different.

Soft ball! Still a pretty decent pitch to bat on when in.

Glad I got draw as well although if England go in tonight it might be carnage....... either way!

Spot on again, here, Hayden.

Tough time for England if we don't take a couple of quick wickets.

Any play that we do get tomorrow, Bumrah will be incredible on this under clouds!

Aptdemon, Think you will find that Gatting won the Ashes in Australia, although it was probably before you were born, and Stokes didn't actually cover himself in glory last year in India losing 3 tests .Just saying I don't think that Stokes is the best English captain of all time , but if you disagree fine.A lot of the guys I mentioned in my opinion were better Captains than Stokes, but it's a personal opinion

This is genius from India....well maybe not genius but exceptionally cunning. As cunning as the cunningest plan.

the only 2 tests he won as captain against the worst australian side probably in 100 years. england and australia was pretty much the wooden spoon of test cricket in the mid 80s. australia were the only side we could beat around then
