ok, seems the radar is clearing. It looked like a storm was bubbling up but it was blown away with that front.

BT Sports are worse than Sky with updates. How difficult is a Picture in Picture of the ground while they play historic matches?

The news gets better. Butler flying home. Don't wish him ill at all but it does allow us to field a Test standard wicket keeper and a batsman who might  contribute more than 10 runs or so an innings! Get Billings in rathe4 than rush Bstard’s thumb. Hopefully YJB can bat.

Lets look at this last Test match carefully. The only thing that saved us from another drubbing was the weather. Australia declared in both innings, which they wouldn't have, had there not been so many weather breaks. The only positive we can take from this match, is that Ben Stokes, got some runs in each innings, Jonny Bairstow, got a superb 100 in the 1st innings and followed that up with a 40 in the 2nd innings and Zak Crawley got a good 77 in the 2nd innings, which meant we were able to get over 250 in each innings. What else did I learn from this Test, was that Haseeb Hameed is simply out of his dept in Test Cricket. His technique is very poor and gave 2 other chances in his inninges, without reaching 10 in either and that the wrong opener was left out of this game. So its going to be 4-0 instead of 5-0, unless our batting eg Bairstow, Crawley and Stokes can continue their form in the next Test and that Joe Root can get his form back from the 1st 3 Tests. If all that were to happen. then a draw is a possibility.

Let’s not look at it at all!

You are right!

But there is a contest this week that makes one positively drool.

SA v Indiaaaah

Great series so far. Highly recommended and you don’t have to stay up to silly o clock!

No point in playing Stokes. Might as well give Lawrence a go too.

I would bowl, Anderson, Broad, Wood and maybe Robinson or Woakes but we will need 5 bowlers. Not sure how Leach gets in.
By:

When: 09 Jan 22 16:15
yep, was wondering if they go 4 or 5 bowlers...could play Billings @ 6 Woakes @ 7 (who's made some runs in the series) to accommodate a 5th...otherwise as you say maybe give Lawrence a go @ 6 ...not had any meaningful cricket obviously of late but would be a bit of a 'freeroll' for him and Hobart sometimes quite batting friendly..

let's be unequivocal about this

the capricious Sydney weather has cruelly denied England a famous victory

but such is life

we move on to a near certain victory in Hobart as the day/night schedule and pink ball will favour us more so than the Aussies as it did in Adelaide!

Stokes still not ruled out but would seem crazy to risk a side injury aggravation in an allrounder - he presumably wouldn't bowl but was in all sorts of discomfort when batting,
Bairstow seems quite likely to be fit...Wood has a bruised toe but should be available

Boland an injury doubt for oz...debate about Kawaja opening instead of Harris...

Who will open for England. Crawley for one and then you are picking straws really on tour form.

My best guess is.

1)Crawley
2) Burns.
3) Malan
4) Root
5) Stokes
6) Bairstow
7) Billings
8) Wood
9) Overton
10) Broad
11) Anderson

Green surface and heavy cloud around...

Billings awarded cap as expected..Anderson left out supposedly with injury niggle..Pope for Bairstow (thumb)
Boland fit.. Kawaja for Harris as Head comes back in..

Australia 1 David Warner, 2 Usman Khawaja, 3 Marnus Labuschagne, 4 Steven Smith, 5 Travis Head, 6 Cameron Green, 7 Alex Carey, 8 Pat Cummins (capt), 9 Mitchell Starc, 10 Nathan Lyon, 11 Scott Boland

England 1 Rory Burns, 2 Zak Crawley, 3 Dawid Malan, 4 Joe Root (capt), 5 Ben Stokes, 6 Ollie Pope, 7 Sam Billings (wk), 8 Chris Woakes, 9 Ollie Robinson, 10 Mark Wood, 11 Stuart Broad
