I see your point. So we're saying both sides have missed a trick :) Inida were always going to be at something of a disadvantage in this match coming into it fresh in English conditions, vs. NZ coming off a couple of competitive warm up games against England.

Hi all,
interesting cricket and an interesting discussion on this forum. In my opinion WD has summed it up perfectly well and his views re the pitch and scoring rates match my own. Sometimes you get pitches in which scoring at even an average rate is difficult and this is one of those pitches. Batting long is obviously the NZ mind set and I cant disagree with that strategy. The pitch could well get easier as the match progresses so we shall see. GLA |

Absolutely. Both sides bowled too short for two hours!
NZ have had better batting opportunities and are more used to these conditions. I think it showed how well the Indian top 4 batted! NZ bowled better than India. These are professional cricketers and they bowl in England with a new ball short of a length, why? Bowl a couple of short ones by all means but get them forward first! |

Tomorrow might be sunny Guernsey!
That is why it is important to run down the wicket in your follow through !It seems some of these players did not attend the school of hard knocks! |
|

Here we go Stron!
Game on! Keep the fieled up and bowl full and straight. throw in the odd short one. Do not give away free singles! |
|
By:
Ashley considering what you have said look how defensive Kohli has gone after 12 runs since lunch!
I would keep the filed up and let them try and hit through or over but bowl 4th stump! and FULL! |
|

- They've probably been watching Stuart Broad. Batting long is obviously the NZ mind set and I cant disagree with that strategy. - I agree with that Guernsey. It's an admirable way to play, and it serves NZ well generally. But it only works if you stay in (which they aren't managing today). |

I'd say 80 overs on this and they have done quite well! How long do you think England " this is the way I play " would have lasted!
|
|
By:
I have noticed Broad is bowling fuller as he gets older!
But yes spot on! |
|
By:
......... "How long do you think England " this is the way I play " would have lasted!.......
Had to have a little chuckle at that remark. England would have been long gone. Our usual 30-3 could have been far worse lol GLA |

Quel surpris, full and straight!
Good use of the crease by Shami though, fair play and credit due! |
|
By:
On pitches like this and with cloud tailenders should not last long although they may score freely while at the wicket!
|
|
By:
Bish also makes the point that this ball may be swinging more than the first one which might explain while India are not batting atm
|

Wickets, please.

Hitting but what did it hit first?
Pad! in line or Upmires call? |
|
By:
goddam!

That looked so out first time!
|
|
By:
Siraj would have bowled well here but who to leav3 out? 3 seamers should be enough in these conditions but Siraj dies swing it nicely and may have been more effective than Ishant
|

NZ have obtained their first target of a first innings lead.
Still enough overs left in the match for all 3 results. Getting interesting. |
|
By:
Let’s hope so. I am still red
India missing a trick here get a The Bumrah on! |
|
By:
Like I said. Spinners!
![]() t least the game has moved on. Potentially over 30 overs here. I don’t t expect India to score fast but they can! First they need to avoid getting rolled over! Potentially over two hours play too. |
|
By:
40 more over scheduled for today although we are unlikely to get them all in. Can play until 7 conditions permitting.
98 overs tomorrow. This can go any way. |
|
By:
Yep but draw favourite. Ideally I would like a clutter of wickets followed by a Panty Boi special and a target set of 175
Nice green to be had here! |
|
By:
is there any chance of the teams deciding overnight lets go for it, india dec say leaving nz 200 or so runs , better than this rubbish so far, whats there really to lose

Just one of those things that makes it such a great game! ...and it is back on! |

Here we go. We need another quick wicket and a Panty special.

butter fingers Southee yet again..we'll see how pivotal this might be

One more wicket and India will struggle to set a total!
I see Rahane is not going to hand around a look to score. Ideally I would like some fast runs and even a total of 175 to possibly bring all three results back into play. I should really small green but my compulsion is to gamble for a big green rather than just get my money back. |
|
By:
i mean if NZ get India out relatively cheaply will they be able to dig in for the draw?

Jamiesons control of length has been fantastic and he got Kohli out playing forward to a ball just short of a good length. He brought him forward beautifully
|
|
By:
amazing really to see the fall of next wkt only 18 runs above the present total with a pair of damn good batsmen at the crease
testament to Kiwi Bowling and conditions and fall of wkts to date or complete lack of trust in India to knucle down? or.perish the thought is there some bug in the air or smth? |

Pretty tense out there!
