if Eng could improve their batting and stem the flow of consistent mini collapses, their bowling when conditions are conducive passes muster, they could eventually be invited to the top tier of world cricket

By:

By:
u'd be taking a gamble with the fickleness of the less than desert like Mancunian weather tho'
By:
just bowl em over, collapse is never far away with these, had thought they were improving, but its poor
By:

The scenario tomorrow
Polish off the tail in the morning, send Stokes out to smash 100 off 40 balls and then declare, bowl them out before end of play job done Simple as thaat |

Follow on or not is a massive infection point in this test, I think. Tomorrow looks likely to be entirely rained off but say England 200 ahead at lunch today, having bowled them out a bit past the mark, pretty hard to do other than bat the rest of the day and set 400+. I guess you could go pretty hard and be very happy with 420 and 6-8 overs left but that needs major destruction of their bowling and the weather to hold all day. You'd have to accept the risk of setting them 350 instead with nominally 6.5 sessions left and looking very silly if they knocked them off.
Having said all that, if it comes to it I think we'll bowl them out day 5. But the draw price might get quite interesting if they survived the first 10 overs and / or got to lunch one down. |
By:
Draw was about 4.7 @7.00 this morning just bounced back in to 4.0 massive first hour.
By:
If given the chance to enforce the follow on it would be stark staring mad not to. Caution is not the watchword in a currently tied series with bad weather around and they’ve got five bowlers even if Stokes can’t bowl at all and are very likely to get at least a partial rest day in tomorrow. So far Archer with 13.1 overs has done the most work and he sat out the last test so can’t be too tired!

By:
Yeah surely enforce follow in if possible. Bowlers had 2 spells yesterday and almost certainly will have there feet up tomorrow plus the keep telling everyone how fit they are.
By:
Yeah draw was 3.7 at close last night, weather was always set fair today.

You wouldn't say Dowrich is secure out there but looks like they'll get past the follow on fairly easily to me. Ball not doing anything yet. Leaves England some decisions to make about how they approach their second innings, especially if WI manage to bat on for a decent while and the lead isn't too dominant.
By:
might get to less than 100 lead
